Interview at the US embassy in Madrid was a quick and fairly simple process, in and out in 30 min. An officer first reviewed all my documents and I handed her over my medical exam, including the envelope with the X-ray, which I had picked up the day before at the clinic. Re medical exam, if you can I strongly recommend you get your vaccination story checked in Spain (already covered in the fee you have to pay in any case), as this will save you time and money when you file for AOS after marrying in the US - one of the supportive docs you need to file as part of the AOS application is evidence of compliance with the vaccination requirement. After waiting for about 5 min, a second officer carried out the interview - questions were straightforward: where and how I met my fiancé and when we got engaged and decided to apply for the k1 visa. Once the interview is over, they tell you whether your visa is approved or not. Allow approx one week for them to send you the visa. They send you a package which includes your passport with the stamped visa and a separate sealed envelope which you will have to give to the border officer upon entry in the US. Good luck to all of you who are going through this very lengthy process!

Attended my interview on 7th March 2023. I was there in total 2.5 hours. You are not allowed to bring any bags into the embassy which is important to note, if you can't help but bring a bag, you can leave your bag at the Kiosk directly across the street for 5 euros. Once you enter, your items are scanned and your electronics are taken away until you leave including your phone! If you do not have photos or the photos you brought are not to the specifications they require, they do have a photo booth where you can print appropriate photos for 5 euros.

Once you enter the room. It is a fairly small room with 15 windowed booths with chairs around the perimeter to wait. 4 of the windows are for the initial step where you must wait in line and present documents, I was asked for my birth certificate, marriage and certificate and my police certificates. Once this is done, you are given a number to be called to one of 3 windows dedicated to the actual interview. This process took around 2h 20 mins before I was finally called to my window for my interview.

I was asked to do an oath and then the interview again, I was asked if my wife is the petitioner and how we met, this was followed by asking me when I moved to Spain and confirmed my joint sponsor's name, these were the only questions asked of me before she told me they had everything they needed and i would be approved today after they completed a final name check, I was then handed my 'Welcome to the US' letter and my interview was over lasting around 7 minutes.

The whole process was lengthy but it was a busy day for the embassy and everything went very smoothly despite this and I came away very pleased with the outcome but also my experience

Writing this (paraphrased) for my wife:

All went well. Very fast process considering the amount of people there waiting. Consular staff were very friendly, and her interview was in Spanish, which was surprising to her, as she was prepared to have to use English. The worse thing about the day of the interview was the rain.

I received on 10/21 packet 3 through email and was asked to send by registered mail the supporting documents. On 10/28 I received packet 4, again through email, with authorization to schedule my interview and I took the first available date, 11/15 at 08:30. I was able to schedule my medical exam for 11/04, it has to be done 7-10 days before the interview, to be able to receive the results in time. I picked up the sealed envelope with the medical the same day before the interview, around 08:15.
I got at the embassy at 08:30 with our 11 months old daughter. No issues going in with the stroller and the diaper bag with all the baby stuff. I was able to get in right away and was given a number. I was first called and asked for some more documents, and after a while I was called again for the interview. Short, just a few simple questions regarding our relationship. They said that I would receive the visa in about a week, but it took longer, probably because of thanksgiving. Total time spent at the embassy 1.5 hours.
