The staff at the Consulate were very nice and helpful. They consistently returned our e-mails and even allowed us to be re-scheduled for an earlier interview date due to the issues we had with the CSC office mishandling our case.

We arrived very early, 6:30 and were able to get parking although it seemed parking wasn't much of an issue as there is ample ability to park on the street below the Consulate. I am the petitioner and was allowed into the building because I e-mailed the consulate beforehand for permisson and printed out the e-mail from the Consulate which stated I could go with my Fiance into the building. However, they stated it would be up to the Consular officer if I would be allowed into the actual interview, which I wasn't allowed but its all one big room so I was basically right there anyway. If you want to go with your fiance to the interview, I would suggest e-mailing the Consulate because the guards aren't allowed to let you in unless you have an e-mail from the Consulate stating otherwise.

Once we entered the building, we were the first ones called up to give in our forms which included the financial support forms, the print off of the DS-160, his military papers and birth certificate, his medical excluding the x-ray pictures, and the DS-230. We also paid the Consular fees there in cash- $240.00 payable wither in shekels or dollars. We weren't asked for any ongoing relationship proof such as new photos etc to add the case. However, other people also interviewing were asked for this type of evidence so best to have it just in case. Once he handed in his forms we were told to wait and I was told not to go with him for the actual interview.

After about 30 minutes my fiance was called up for the interview, he took an oath and the all-in-all the interview was around 10-15 minutes. They asked him, how, where and when we met, how he proposed, where I was from, if he had met my parents or spoke to them, if he had visited my hometown or home state (the interviewer was also from Alabama) where we want to live in the States and why, what he plans to do in the states, what I want to do in the states, how long he had been to the states for college, if he finished his college program in California, the last time he saw me, when he was planning to leave for the states, where he works now, where the wedding will be, he asked about the other people in our photos that were in our original case, and what we have in common. My fiance said that the interviewer was very friendly. After the interview, he was told that he was approved and it would take 3-4 weeks to process the visa. That was it! In total, we were there around 1 1/2 hours. My fiance had been so worried because he had had previous tourist visa interviews at the Tel-Aviv Embassey and they, the interviewers had been rude, aggressive and were digging for problems. My recommendation is to get to the Jeruslaem consulate early, and wait in line at the area marked "visa" so that you are one of the first in the door, that way you will be the first served and one of the first out. The staff were lovely and the experience was much easier than the previous steps in our K-1 process.

Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

Was told "your case looks pretty good" but asked to bring a document from the ministry of interior with my exits and returns being my return into Israel from the US that I noted as 08/08 in my DS-230 was not stamped into my passport(used a hand print entry). Originals were returned but so was passport.

05/06/2013: Brought said document less than two hours after interview was done.

Basically like going to a teller at the bank. You stand and face an employee who goes over your application and asks you questions about everything. The payment instructions were completely incorrect. They said that they would not accept credit cards nor cash nor anything except like a certified check from my bank. So I did paid the fee and when we got there was told that good ol' Visa/Mastercard would do just fine.

they have to review the mailers they send out. It seems they are completely disorganized interms of office procedure. However, the lady who conducted our interview was nice and courteous. The wait wasn't terribly long. Security was tight, of course, as East Jerusalem is a hot spot, and politically charged.

Let me tell you, the interview part is the easiest one!
Waiting for them to process it and their unresponsiveness was the worst part! It took them 6.5 weeks to issue the visa and that's with the involvement of my fiance's congressman. (twice!!!!).
Arrived at 7:45 sharp. Lots of parking space for free on the street above the consulate- Yam Hamelach st. (Dead sea st.). Only 2 people in line in front of me. Got to the check in window outside, stated my name and got a number and the paper for Sha'al. Waited 2 mins to get inside and go through security. They asked me to open the medical envelope outside and then come back in. Promised it's OK and it was. You need to leave you cellphone with them. I left it in the car and only brought a carton bag with all my documents, my wallet, a bottle of water and a sweater. But I saw other people there with backpacks so I guess they let you bring stuff in. Got into the interviews hall. There were maybe 5 parties already waiting. Met another k1 couple there so the time passed quickly. Waited for like 15-20 mins and got called to the window for the documents check up. Gave all documents one by one to the clerk who spoke Hebrew to me. He took: my passport, 2 photos, original+ photocopy of birth certificate and army discharge (originals were given back in the end), medical exam forms (without the x-ray), 2 copies of ds156, 1 ds156K, 1 ds157. when he took my fiance's i-134 said that his $20,000 is not enough so thank god I had his parents co-sponsor us just in case and I immediately gave him their forms and that was satisfying. Also gave him our photo album and our signed statements of intent to marry. He didn't want to take the rest of my proofs and said that the CO might ask for them at the interview. I also had to give him the paper with my contact details for Sha'al. In the end he asked if I speak English and I said yes. Waited for about 10 more mins and got called to the last window at the end. The CO was pretty nice and spoke to me in English. I raised my hand and swore to tell the truth and then he took my fingerprints. The CO went through all the papers and had me sign the parts left to be signed in his presence. While he was looking on the papers he started asking me the questions.
1. Oh you're fiance lives in Arizona? I've lived there for 20 years! It's too hot there. (not really a question).
2. How did you meet? (answered where and when and who was there with me and that was it).
3. What does my fiance do for a living?
4. In what part of the city exactly does my fiance live at? (Probably since he knows the area. gave him the crossroads and he nodded).
5. Does it bother my fiance that I've served in the army? (no)
6. Where are your parents from? where do they live now? how does you parents feel about you leaving? (said it's hard but they support me. I wanted to show him a letter from them but he didn't want to see it)
7. Asked me again how long we've been dating. (answered the same as in the beginning and stated how many times we each visited the other).
8. Looked through my photo album (simple album with 36 pics of us in the US and Israel and with our families). Didn't really ask many questions or tried to tackle me. He was more commenting on them, saying: oh that's a nice area, oh where is Rosh Pina? oh you went traveling a little? oh this is his family? that's his grandma?
He seemed pretty satisfied with the pics and I tried saying I had many more proofs to show him but he didn't want to see. Then he gave me back my original birth and army certificates.
Then he said, it's all good. OK we'll issue you the the visa. I asked how long it would take, he said in 1 to 2 weeks it would be delivered to you. Then he said: You can tell your fiance you're traveling soon to see him. That was it. Was out of there by 9:00 AM and called my babe to tell him the good news.
The actual interview day went smoothly, no problems at all, didn't take long and the CO was nice.
The way until the interview was rough and long and a lot of misleading information. The forms you need are exactly the ones I've listed here. I brought way more proofs such as: phone bills, magic jack record, skype print screens, all of our flight tickets, emails between our parents and a statement form my parents, receipts for my ring and the watch my parents got him, my wedding dress receipt, emails regarding wedding plans, my school papers and emails with schools in the US for my transfer. They didn't want to see any of them but I'm still happy I had it all in case they would of asked.

They took the maximum time possible for every step of the process. Answering emails also took a very long time, and won't answer questions by phone. One idiot made a mistake and almost gave me a heart attack when he couldn't find my marriage licence even though all this info had been forwarded months prior from the NVC. The interview itself went well, once I actually got to the window after waiting for 3 hours past my scheduled appointment time. It's difficult to find parking in the area and the consulate is very hard to find. The set up for the interviews was bizarre - I had to scream through thick glass windows and it was difficult to hear the questions, especially since other people were right next to me going through the same thing. But, I'm in the US now so I guess it wasn't too bad! javascript:emoticon('')
