A mixture of helpfulness and incompetence from the time it touched the embassy. The email arrived stating that medical exam had to be sent to them along with all the other interview documentation by mail before they will schedule an appointment. They never state how the scheduling will happening after they receive the documents. We assumed maybe they will just email us? This email is also when you find out that you need 2 police certificates one from the Ministry of Justice in Zagreb (you can order by mail application and they were very quick and professional) the other from your local Municipal court. The email gives a telephone number to call but only a one hour time frame is listed where they will answer. It took several attempts over days to get someone to answer. At this time she informed us that no one is really at that phone and email is better. However her assistant had sent us an email but was sending it to the wrong person which is why we didn't receive, she was very sweet and so helpful for the rest of the process. Interviews were booked up to 3 weeks in advance but she was able to squeeze us in earlier, so maybe that's why we never recieved a interview letter. The medical doctor (the male one) refused to give him the DS3025 need for the AOS, luckily we asked the woman at the interview and again she was helpful and provided the docs we needed. The doctor would only take cash payment and didn't give a receipt, I had my fiance go back and get one the day before his interview. Once approved be was able to pick up the next day, however the petitioner name was spelled incorrectly. When he went back in to ask them to correct, they said it was fine and escorted him out. Quick note they have you fill out a customer survey of the doctor at the interview. Everyone at the embassy was very kind and friendly according to my fiance.

Mask was required due to Covid, as was sanitizing your hands, there is had sanitizer everywhere. At the entrance they check your ID, then you go through security. Your phone and any electronics need to be shut off. They will keep them, give you a card with a number so you can pick them up when leaving. Then you head to the building where the interviews are conduced. They will call your name, take your prints, take any documentation needed. They will explain to you what needs to happen after the interview, when you enter the US etc. Then you will go to a different window, where you will pay the processing fee. You can pay with cash, kuna or dollars, credit card or debit card. After that you wait for the consular officer. They will call your name again when the consular officer is ready. Questions they asked me were the typical ones: where my fiance and I met, how long from the moment we met online to in person meeting, describe the meeting. What he does for a living, what I plan to do for a living. They basically go though all of your documentation with you. The consular officer did not have our I-134 on hand, even though my fiance sent in per email directly to them. I did have a printed out copy they looked at.
They put us in administrative processing, reason they stated was the need to look into some things further. The visa was issued two days later (Friday), arrived via post (Tuesday).

Additional info:
They give you the option to come pick it up at the embassy yourself or send it via post.
Make sure you have all the documents you sent printed out, it can come in handy.
When you are sending the documents via email, make sure to send them all in one batch, if you can and ask for a confirmation that they received everything.
Keep an eye on any email communication you have with them, if they do not answer, try again, my impression was that emails tend to get lost.

Overall experience was pleasant, the security personnel is incredibly friendly, and they actually made an effort to calm my nerves. The administrative personnel is professional and nice. I do wish they were more on top of their email correspondence.

Good luck and you really don't need to worry as much as you think you need to.

My daughter and I had our interviews scheduled for 10:00. We arrived at the embassy at 9:50 and went through security. There was a nice Croatian speaking lady ready for us, she asked for our passports, all original documents and letter of consent from my daughters father, which took about 20 minutes. There is a small desk and chairs for kids to play with some puzzles, drawing boards, crayons etc. in the waiting area and it helped a lot to keep my daughter from being bored while waiting. few minutes later the CO called us for the interview which took about 10 minutes. Questions were: how and when did you meet your husband?, how many times have you seen each other in person?, who proposed and how? what was your wedding like and where?. questions for my daughter: do you know your mommy's new husband?, have you met him and how many times (she couldn't remember as it he visits about 3 times a year and she is only 6 years old). after that the lady said everything looked OK and we were approved. At 10:50 we were already back in our car.

Visa interview was held at the boot and was pure formality. Zero level of harassment.
Consul was very pleasant, went through documents to make sure everything is there and asked some general questions,
who, when, where, but it all went very smoothly and fast.
As for scheduling the interview, I suggest calling the consulate as soon as you receive email form them, and clarify all possible questions with them.
