Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Simply brilliant interview. On-time. Professional, but with a very dry (British) sense of humor which put me at ease. I had five binders worth of "evidence"....one of which was my K-1 stuff (1), then I had my wedding pix (2), copies of every scrap of paper sent for AOS, with updated pay slips (3), joint residence stuff (4), and all originals (5). He didn't ask for anything.....not ONE thing!! I never even had to get my passport out! I used my Mich. drivers license as ID to get into the waiting area!

We chatted just briefly about how we'd met, what sort of work I previously in the UK (events manager...started as a chef), that propmted the officer to say he liked to cook.....and he proceeded to print me up a recipe for fried chicken!!

He gave me several tips for filing to remove conditions in two years.

It was less than 20 minutes total.

We got there about 1.5 hours early...parking was free so thats a plus!
About 30 min before the interview we walked in, cleared security (kinda weird if you ask me, noone ever checked my purse...) and were told to put our letter in a tray.
We waited for about 1 hour and 15 min before my name was called.
The officer was really nice...he made us swear that everything we say is true and aksed for our IDs. Then he aksed for our names and adresses and when we got married. He asked my husband how we met, then he asked if we were still with the same bank. I handed him a brand new bank statemant and some other bills showing both our names (phone bill, lease) and that was it, he said that he would approve our case...
I was really shocked, I thought it would be so much harder...the officer said that he really liked how organized we were (I had copies of everyting plus everything was in folders), and since my husband is a fo... read complete review

We arrived just a few mins before our interview time, were checked at the gate, then put out interview letter in the Green Card interviews bin, a few mins later an older gentleman came out looked through the letter then called her name, he took us in his office, told us to swear to tell the truth and all that. Then he took her passport and EAD. He said he has studied our file and our I-130 has been approved a long time ago and that all our docs in our file are in order for a successful AOS processing. He asked her simple questions like her date of birth, her mother's name and went over the last page of questions on I-485 questions. Then he asked me what docs I had to prove we are living together, I gave him our bank satement and a few letters from various Christian organizations we are part of and he said that was enough. He then said congrats you are now a permanent resident in US, he said I am going to keep your EAD as you don't need that anymore, he took her passport stamped cancell... read complete review

Seung-ho received his permanent residency stamp on 6/21/05 in Detroit. We had an 8:30 AM appointment and waited to see an offical until about 10:00, but after that it was smooth sailing. He has his stamp in his passport now and even got a Welcome to America! from the official that handled our case.

Some useful things to know about Detroit are:

1) They don't let you in the building until about 30 minutes before your appointment
2) Once you get in and go through the metal detector you need to put your appointment letter (in our case the I-797C Notice of Action) in a file box in the front
3) Once you put the letter in there, they are apparently split up amongst the officials. If the official that received your letter is moving slowly, you are just out of luck. We saw about 10-12 people go to their appointments who arrived after us.

The official we met with asked for:

1) Seung-ho's drivers license and my dr... read complete review
