Our interview date was 1/20/06. We stayed at an apartment we rented just around the corner from the American Medical building. Our interview time was 8:45. We were called by the intake worker about 30 minutes of waiting. The worker was very nice and commented on how organized and complete all our paperwork was. After another 1 hour wait, the consulate officer called us to the window for the interview. He asked me how long was my ex-wife and I separated prior to getting our divorce (I guess since my divorce was very recent - Oct.17, 05). He then asked me to go back to the waiting room. He asked my fiancée about her daughter who is attending school in the US. Very little was asked about our relationship. The interview lasted about 15 minutes but told my fiancée that because she was a Russian citizen, she would require an additional security check that would take about 3 weeks. We were told that the visa would be sent to my fiancée’s apartment via FedEx in about 3 weeks.

Lyuda was very impressed by the kindness and courtesy of the embassy staff. She did have to wait an hour before the interview. The interview was brief and she was asked how many times had I been to visit her and about her visit to the US in 98'. The Visa was approved and she was estatic. I had e-mailed and called the embassy on many ocassions and found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Furtermore, everything moved swiftly once my paperwork reached the Kiev Embassy. Myself and Lyuda were quite please with our entire experience.

No problems. We had our paperwork well-organized, so that helped speed things past the submission-of-paperwork phase. We waited a while...then Kseniya had her inteview..which consisted of only a few questions...then we were approved!

We arrived at 800A for an 845A appt...they wouldn't let us in until 830A!!!

We entered through a separate building, detached from the embassy itself, and went through metal detector and other screening. They took my wife's lipstick (in a metal container) and my camera and gave us a ticket to pick them up on the way out.

We entered the Embassy and went all the way down the hallway on the right. We went to the glass cages where there was a young man behind one and a young lady behind the second. The man beckoned us to the glass window. We gave him all of the documents that were required and he was extremely polite and smiled and talked through the process. He placed everything in a select order. We were then instructed to go back down the hall to the cashier's window and pay the $100 (in USD) fee for the Visa.

We returned to the man and gave him our "paid receipt" which he then attached to the file. He asked us to be seated.

Review Topic: General Review

I have delt with the Kiev Consulate on different times during my numerous trips to this Country. Now, my wife has had her interview and she was treated with respect and dignity. These people who work at the Consulate have always been extremely nice and went out of their way to help and assist me with whatever I asked. I know I must have telephoned them a dozen times with questions as well. Always were helpful and guided me in the right direction.
