Review Topic: K1 Visa

Our interview was in May and the process was very simple and surprisingly quick. We arrived at the embassy at 9 am and checked in for the interview. We waited about 2 hours before being seen.

We approached the window together and I promptly asked about the visa payment and the woman was very helpful and gave me all of the information and I left to pay the visas which in Euro are 245 FOR K visas. I also went to the doctors office to collect the x-ray for my fiancee.

Upon returning to the embassy, my fiancee was in the waiting area. I provided the payment receipts for the visas and they promptly handed me the packet of papers for entry here in the states and explained to me that my fiancee would need these for first entry into the USA. Shen then said we would need to wait and speak with the vice consular for the interview.

The vice consular was recently transferred to the Madrid post and he spoke almost to nothing in Spanish. He used a card to... read complete review

Review Topic: Direct Consular Filing

They allowed K, the USC, to enter the Embassy* and and be present for the interview, which took place through a window (not over a desk like we had expected). They asked us how we met and what J intends to do upon arrival in the U.S., then they asked us both personal questions, including:
- "Ma'am, does your husband like dogs or cats better?"
- "Sir, which of your family members does your wife like best?"
- "Sir, what would your wife say is the wierdest thing about Spain?" (and the opposite for what J thinks about the U.S.)

The Vice Consul was very nice (he even laughed when I rolled my eyes & answered the cats & dogs question with "Both, but I'm allergic!"). Unfortunately for anyone who comes after us, he told us at the end that ours was his last case in Spain.

*The security outside the Embassy said they let me in because I'm American and because I asked nicely! Once in, I expected to not be able to participate in anything, so I a... read complete review

The interview was the easiest part of the whole process they only asked 3 questions
1. what’s your fiancée’s name
2. Do you know her parents
3. Do you have a son together?

After that they said that the visa was approved and to wait 10 days to receive it

The whole process took about 2 hours, on Monday before the interview he had the medical done that took 2 hours as well and on Tuesday he pick up the results

At the consul everybody were polite and very nice.

The medical exam process: it took aprox. 1 and a half hours. Everything went smoothly.

The interveiw process :The whole process took 2 hours. The officers at the embassy were polite and nice. During the interview he asked me how we met, our first date, if i new his family, and things like that. I showed him our photos.

I expected the consulate to be busier but to my surprise it was not.
