Review Topic: K1 Visa

Finally got my visa today!
The interview experience was stressful, but pretty much what everyone else here was talking about. Took me two hours in total, but mostly just waiting.
First the japanese lady checked all my documents, asked couple of questions if I ever lived somewhere else, after some waiting times they took my fingerprints.
Then took more than an hour to wait till my actual interview.
The officer was really nice and smiling.
Questions:
-how did we meet?
-when else had we seen each other?
-what’s our wedding plans (which I thought he was asking sentimental question of our plans for wedding party, but all he needed to know if we are planning to get married officially and just have a “party”)
-what is my job here in Japan?

Then he said they intend to approve my visa, but they still need to run some documents check. After the interview status was immediately changed to “refused”, which coul... read complete review

Our interview was scheduled for 9:30 am on a Monday. We arrived early as I was expecting there to be a line outside the embassy (as there usually is), but there was no line. I guess the embassy is limiting its services due to covid, and perhaps the number of people seeking visas is way down as well. In any event, we were so early we had to wait outside about 15 minutes, then we breezed through the security gate. Once inside we waited maybe 5 minutes before we were called to the window to present our documents. They didn't ask for tax documents or any of the items I had brought that prove domicile. The only thing they requested was birth certificate (koseki tohon), vaccination documents from the hospital where the medical check was performed, and I had to provide documents that show my assets in the US. After we submitted the documents we had to wait another 10 minutes or so, then we were called to provide fingerprints. Then a further 10-15 minutes and we were called to the window for t... read complete review

US wife/UK husband both living in Japan on work visas. Our appointment was November 9th, at 9:00am, and we were not permitted to enter until 8:45ish. There are plenty of cafes and conbinis in the area, we decided to print some last minute evidence ideas off at a nearby Family Mart and then relaxed at the Starbucks across the street. We weren't sure if I was going to be able to enter the embassy with my husband for his interview, but when it was time we showed the embassy guards our appointment notification and they permitted BOTH of us to enter, no questions asked. There were many couples in the waiting area, so I think it's generally accepted at this embassy. Finding photo booths around Japan that have the correct photo size is a little difficult. We did find a photo booth near our home station that had a size a little bigger, thinking the embassy could cut it down. However, there was a booth in the embassy waiting room that you can use. Make sure to write your name on your photos an... read complete review

Her interview was very simple with only a few questions, she spent more time waiting in lobby than in actual interview
