Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

I had my interview at 10am, rang the buzzer a few minutes early, and was sent to the 5th floor. The security checked whatever stuff I had on me (very friendly!) and I was let into the consulate area with a few people in the waiting room. I was called to the first counter, gave them all the docs and was asked to wait. Was called back after a while for my fingerprints, and then had to wait again. The CO that interviewed me after a 10-15 minute wait was very friendly, asked me to sign a form and then proceeded to ask me questions, which were:

- When did you get married?
- Where did you get married?
- How did you meet?
- Which city was this in?
- What is your current occupation?
- When are you due to graduate? (I am a grad student)
- What do you plan on doing once you get to the US? (Answered 'undecided' on the DS-230)
- What does your husband do in the Navy?
- Is he attached to a squadron?
- How long will he be ... read complete review

My interview was scheduled for 9.00 am. I rang the buzzer at 8.45am but was asked to come back at 9.00am, so they really want people to come only exactly as scheduled. At 9.00 I was allowed in and took elevator up to the 5th floor and rang the second buzzer so that they could get my passport. Waited about 15 minutes and then was allowed to go through security check (which was similar to what they have at the airport).

Inside the consulate they have a nice little waiting area with Finnish and English magazines and drinking water on the side. Managed to wait truly just a second and was called to give one updated document. Then sat down to wait again. After about 15 minutes was called to have my fingerprints done. Then back to the waiting room and this time ended waiting for pretty long time as I think they were handling first the non-immigrant visas.

Finally I was called for the interview. The lady interviewing me was really nice and kind. I had just been ... read complete review

Quick processing from e-mail correspondence to the procedures at the consulate. Professional staff. No complaints whatsoever. Interview took but five minutes and the visa arrived in the mail in two days. As it has been mentioned here previously, due to renovations at the Kaivopuisto location, the consulate now operates in Kaisaniemi.

In overall consulate worked fast with everything; sending interview time and answering emails etc. The interview took about 40 minutes total. First I handed in my papers, sat down and waited about 10 minutes, then I was asked to give fingerprints and then I waited again about 10 minutes. The interview was quick and very nice consulate office asked maybe 5 to 7 questions, gave back our photos and said the visa is approved!! The experience was very nice and they were very friendly.

from ringing the buzzer on the street to being back outside it took me pretty much an hour to the minute. They would not let me in before the scheduled time for the interview, and unfortunately the elevator was broken so I had to walk up the stairs to the 5th floor - not a problem, but I had two suitcases with me so had to haul those up (and down) with me. Security was nice and polite. Gave my paperwork to a guy at one of the booths who then looked through them and said I was all set, please sit down and wait. Got called up to have my fingerprints taken and then waited another maybe 15mins before was called up for the interview. The guy interviewing me was nice and polite - not overly nice nor extremely friendly but polite and professional. He asked me basic questions like how and when did you meet, have you been to the US, has he been to Finland, when was the last time you saw each other, when do you intend to get married, when do you intend to fly over, do you have children or does h... read complete review
