Details on our interview.

Labratory
We had our lab exam on July 3rd. We showed up at 6:20am, lab opens at 7am. Since we were the first ones there and totally super cold. We decided to head to a coffee shop around the corner from the labratory. After I chow down a sandwich and coffee. We return to the lab at 6:40am and already were 5th in line. No problem. The labratory is pretty efficient, very fast. Please note thate they do not allow the USC in. So I had to wait outside. No problem, I went back to the coffee shop to keep warm. I returned to the lab at 7:25 and 5 minutes later Wendy was done with the lab tests and x-rays. So it took under 30 minutes for her to get in and get out. The lab asks for her appt letter, passport and 1 photo. The lab stamps the appt letter and 150 mil pesos. The employees as the lab were friendly, no problems here.

Medical exam
Wendy's medical exam was scheduled for the same day at 9:45am. After the lab we head hom... read complete review

I am writing this in June - 6 mos after interview - finally getting around to it. Showed up early (6:30 AM I believe)- embassy opens at 7AM. Overall very well organized but impersonal process - so many people they herd you around here and there - oh well at least they were efficient. Initially they separated everybody depending on what you were there for. There are a bunch of windows - kind of like a bank. HUGE waiting area/courtyard with food and bathrooms. All the K1's were sent to a certain part of the waiting area. Called us to a window pretty quickly to look at our paperwork - apparently just to make sure everything there and in order. Then we had to wait for 2 or 3 hours for the actual interview. During this time we observed other couples. Most of the women were accompanied by their American fiance/spouse. Sometimes they would speak to the guy, sometimes not. We happened to be sitting for those 2 - 3 hours right in front of the window that we eventually got called to so I'm sure ... read complete review

Most staff encountered were professional and pleasant. The consular officer was respectful, though not particularly pleasant at times. Other than spending a lot of time sitting around waiting, the time actually spent "doing" something with the embassy folks was fairly efficient.

The Embassy

Thank God the sun was shining the day of the interview, which was a departure from the overcast, cold, rainy weather that plagued us daily in Bogotá.

We arrived at 6:00 AM and were the first ones to stand in line 3. We knew from VJ to stand in line 3. Moments later, after some embassy personnel began explaining which lines to stand in, we were literally "moved out of the way" by a large, old, grandmotherly looking lady and what appeared to be 3 grandchildren (teen agers and/or early 20's). Ironically later, she was victimized by the same treatment by another "grandma type" person, and her little (apparent) granddaughter.

The entire embassy experience took place outside, open-air, with some canopy coverage that increased as we progressed thru the interview process.

One of the advantages to being one of the first people in line is that once inside the embassy, the first line we stood in had only about 8 chairs, a... read complete review

we arrived at 6am in the morning. there are 3 poles but don't think light pole size like i did. more like broom handles that are about 8 feet tall with numbers 1, 2 and 3 on them. bring an umbrella. we didn't and had to buy one from some lady but it was only 5 bucks. everyone was in line 1 but i had read to be in line 3. we didn't move to line 3 because it is in the grass and dirt. around 6:30, the announced which line was for what and we moved to 3. you needed your passport in your hand and the appointment letter. they put a green sticker on your shirt after you showed them your passport and letter. we were let in early, around 6:45. they checked purses and you went through a metal detector. we then went inside and lined up for the line that was for our type of visa. then a lady gave a little speech about the process and then we got a brown folder that had k1 on the outside and a list of documents on the inside. we put them in order and waited. my fiancee got called withi... read complete review
