My fiancee arrived early to the consulate, about 7:30am, with her dad. They were the first to arrive, but for whatever reason she was the alst to be interviewed at 4:30pm (maybe they had a predetermined order?). Regardless, her interview was the quickest (about 5 minutes as I expected) of all the interviews, likely because she had all proper evidence, supporting documentation, a history of coming to the U.S. legally, her age, and talking in English probably helped as well.

She was asked one question that she didn't know how to answer - what is MY favorite basketball team; she replied "Yankees," then quickly realized that is a baseball team.

I didn't think they would ask her my job (thought that was a question more for AOS interview), but I am glad we prepared for it because it was a little difficult to describe to her (consulting).

Anyways, she said the officer was friendly and although my girl was very nervous, it went very well.

Review Topic: Direct Consular Filing

We have been married for one year and on April 13, 2008 we filed our I-130 form with the US Embassy. We are doing the direct consular filing because I have been living in Brazil for more than six months. The filing of the I-130 and first interview went very well. The agent was very nice. She asked a few questions and decided to adjudicate the I-130 form. She informed us that in about two weeks we will receive a package in the mail with instructions on the documents we need for the next interview. She said, once we get all the documents together to call the US Embassy to setup an interview. We are one week in our waiting, but we have everything except medical examination and police certificates from Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia.

A piece of cake.
They ask me: my mother's name....and easier questions.
Be sure about the documents and...relax!
and...be ready to be there for all the morning...and they have a crazy air condition ( i recomend a jacket ).

Review Topic: Direct Consular Filing

First time for both of us in Rio; we stayed in Lapa, which is more of a party area than a place for rest and relaxation. When we arrived at the Consulate we were directed by the guards to walk around to the back of the building where there were two lines stretching out in two different directions from one door on the corner (where there were more guards). We asked the guards which line we should stand in and they told us to stand in the [much] smaller line. We were 1 hour early, which was completely unnecessary because the line was so short it didn't really make a difference.

Around 8 a.m. a man came around in our line with a clipboard to check to see if my husband's name was written down on his list. Then the guard asked all of us to show our medical exam file so he could check it for any security threats. Then, one by one, we were allowed to pass through the security inside the building (no cell phones, or cameras allowed) and then directed up to the second floor.... read complete review

The interview went really well. We were the first to arrive (we got there at 6:30 am) and waited outside until they opened at 7:45- 8:00. Getting early paid off since we went through the check-in process and interview first. After we received approval (9:30 am), we went to the courier to arrange to have the passport and visa delivered at our hotel in Rio. The visa was delivered that Friday and we left Brazil the following Monday. Everyone at the US consulate was very kind and courteous. Make sure that you have all of your documents in order and it will be a breeze!
