This is how I did it.
When she was very small - under six months I created her own space on one side of the bed. I rolled some large towels up and created a kind of bolster - I could not have rolled over the bolster without waking up. I had a duvet and pillows on my side of the bolster - she just had her night clothes or a sleepsack in winter, exactly the same as she would have done in her own crib.
We had one of the co-sleepers which was pictured above as well - I used it for the first two months - we had the snugglenest. That was okay but was so big that it meant there was no room for my husband in the bed too.
During that phase when she needed to be breastfed every two hours I was able to just lift her over to me and put her back with minimal fuss. I could easily touch her during the night to reassure her. It meant getting so much more sleep than if I had to get up and lift her out of a cot. So I was a lot less sleep deprived than I would have been.
Re the drinking - if you are breastfeeding for the first year or two which I was then you are not drinking heavily at night anyway.
Re medication - luckily I never had to take any medication which would have made me pass out but I imagine that if I had then my husband would have been the one to sleep next to the baby for that night.
Later we sidecarred the crib but both still had separate blankets and covers. It was impossible to roll into our sidecarred crib because the crib was so much shorter, the bottom end of it prevents you.
From 2-years-old she had her own bed (still in our room) but if she wants to get in and sleep with us she just gets in our bed and shares everything as it is.

I am not arguing against sleeping next to babies when breast feeding, but sidecars are the safest way to do this ... I can only share a personal experience from someone who took all the "precautions" (rolled blanket, seperate sleep "zone" and my brother stopped sleeping in the bed with them as he was a heavy sleeper) and the unthinkable still happened... Use the side crib, or attached bed sleeper... As I said you never think it can happen, until it does...

There are also special co-sleepers that can help if you're scared. I did co-sleep with my daughter and her father once rolled onto her but I was able to wake up quickly. After that I put her on the outside of the bed with her playpen/bassinette on my side in case she managed to roll in the night. She went to her own bed at about 7 months because she was sleeping through the night. I like the co-sleepers that are either in the bed or at the same level as the bed. I didn't use her bassinette as much as I thought I would because it was about a 8" drop down into it. But they make pack n plays/play pens with co-sleepers now too.
    Examples of co-sleepers:

In the bed Beside the bed using a crib

Actually the risk of SIDS is lower when a baby is sleeping in the same room as the mother. But there are some suffocation risks for small babies in adult beds if the adults are either very deep sleepers or use alcohol or drugs before bedtime.
The solution if you want to co-sleep and are worried about suffocation is to arrange something like the sidecar crib above or if you have room in the bed make a small 'wall' with a rolled up towel between infant and adult.
Co-sleeping is great if you are breast-feeding.
Once they are a little bigger the discomfort is usually to the adults who get kicked in the back or heads through the night. We still share a room with our little girl but she spends most of the night in her own bed now.

That is terrible I'm so sorry
Cosleeping needs to be done safely. Blankets are a big no no, just like baby should not sleep in the middle until bigger, no drinking or sleep meds the list goes on.

Thank you to all who are keeping this topic updated!
Just wanted to check back in again as we received the new GC in the mail today (wow, seeing 2024 printed on there seems like such a long time away, haha). I really can't believe they mailed it so quickly after approval (we received notice of that just 2 days ago). It came via Priority.
I, too, was expecting an RFE because we mailed copies of our tax returns instead of official IRS transcripts... apparently not a problem. Or thinking they'd want more "proofs" or such because while we do have all joint accounts, we have no kids, no joint health or life insurance, and only 1 car, registered and insured to me only. Some folks here on VJ seemed to think all those things were major calls for RFE's... or maybe we just got lucky.
And truly, I wasn't expecting to even hear a peep about any of it for another couple months at least. Very thankful that they're moving right along. For those still waiting, I'm sure it will come very soon now!
...by this time next year, we'll be in the Citizenship process! Cheers!

My thoughts exactly. Anyone watching this will think they can file a petition for Fiance visa with no real affirmation of getting married. It gives the false presumption that you can decide whether or not you want to marry AFTER you have your visa and are already in the US.

Heard about this on the radio today. They were under the assumption that all of these people had never met and it was completely mail order brides and they were insulting the entire process. Had to call and set them straight.
I don't know that it won't be presented otherwise on the show, but I would probably watch.
I'm such a glutton for TLC.

There is nothing to appeal. Your petition was adjudicated appropriately. You did not meet the minimum requirements of the petition, they gave you an opportunity to provide the information, none was submitted. Therefore it was denied.
