  1. My wife had her first job interview last Friday and was hired yesterday, three weeks after receiving her EAD card. She will be working for a large corporation here in downtown San Diego as a CSR/accounts receivable clerk. She is incredibly excited to find a position that will allow her to improve her language skills and demonstrate the skills she learned back in Russia here in America.

    :dance:

    Good for both of you! Congrats! It's rare to land such an opportunity right at the beginning of a journey in the US. She must be a very smart lady.

  2. I completely understand what you are going through. I remember, when I visited my then-fiance, now-husband, for a month, I had to stay home all the time (I am a US citizen, by the way). I was so used to the fact that I was out there, working, communicating, interacting with people; so, I felt completely miserable. The only thing that kept me going was that I would see him tonight and that situation would only be temporary. And it was only a month I had to go through this.. I can imagine your feelings..

    Hang in there, all I can say. Try to come up with hobbies: reading, hiking, exploring your town, neighbors, cooking (maybe), dancing classes (salsa, ballroom, hip-hop), yoga, etc. (check out meetup.com). Try planning getaway weekends out of town to take your mind off of this process and enjoy your life with your husband. Try to make a positive journey out of this process. You will soon start working a lot, so enjoy while you can. Think of it as your long vacation. =)

    Good luck!

  3. Today is rainy and cold. The only bright AOS spot is that someone was approved today. But not us. We are in that lucky group that was transfered to CSC where our file sits on a desk or in a box and nothing happens. I know, I know -- They have control and they have no heart. Still, it helps a bit to complain.

    You should receive the card any day now. I understand, this process has tested our patience to the limits, but we are almost there! At least our spouses are now with us, and we are going through this together (unlike K-1 applicants).

    Best of luck! Hope to hear the good news very soon.

  4. Flying Eagle and Springfox, congratulations on your approvals! You can now put this process to rest for a year and a half. =)

    We were also approved last Friday (Oct 14). Although, interview didn't go as I had expected it. I guess it was because we weren't well prepared (there was a glitch in the USCIS system that sent us an approval notice putting us in a relax-mode). But what matters now is that my husband will have his GC in a week! =)

    Good luck to those who are still waiting.

  5. A status update:

    With no card in hand, we didn't want to risk by not showing up at the interview, so we started frantically gathering stuff to prove our relationship is genuine.

    The interview itself went Ok..

    He asked for:

    1. a letter from the bank

    2. a letter from my doctor that I am in fact pregnant.

    3. apartment lease

    4. life insurance, 401K, health insurance and/or car insurance

    But all we gave him was:

    (1) a check (from our checkbook) where both of our names are listed;

    (2) an ultrasound picture of our baby. He hasitated at first, but still took these as evidence;

    (3) our apartment lease;

    (4) a utility bill; and

    (5) a couple of wedding pictures.

    He said that we didn't give him much, but he would still approve us. So nice of him. =)

    We asked him about our approval that was sent to us a month ago. He said that some clerk made a mistake and there was no way he would have approved us without an interview..

    He was a bit mean.. but who cares? We are approved and are done with this process for 2 years.

  6. Hi everyone,

    I am a bit confused as to where my husband and I are in the process.

    On September 1, we received an interview notice to appear on October 14 (which is in a couple of days).

    On Septmber 14, we received a notification that our i-485 is in Card Production stage (and a few days later, we received the interview noticed stamped "Approved. Action Complete")

    Today, we haven't received the Green Card yet nor can we inquire about it (we are still within 30 days), so we are still waiting..

    Question: Do we go to the interview or keep waiting for the Green Card? My husband says, we should go there just to be sure.. but I say, why waste time if the process is "complete"?

    I don't know..

    Has anyone been in a situation like this?

  7. i asked a question on the forum regarding whether or not we need to present my husband's (petitioner) orig birth certificate. he was born outside the US but has been a US citizen for years now. he only has a photocopy of it. the orginal is on its way but im afraid it wont make it. I, however the immigrant do have my orig birth certificate with me. we were born @ the same country.

    are we going to have a problem with this?

    Birth certificate is needed to prove someone's citizenship. Since your husband is a naturalized citizen, the only documents they would need are Passport and/or Certificate of Naturalization. So, I wouldn't worry too much. =) Best of luck!

  8. Hi all,I got I-551 stamp and landed last week, then I came back to Canada for my job. My wife is an American citizen and my daughter is a Canadian citizen. My wife and I applied for PR in Canada.Will it affect my green card if I get PR in Canada?

    It most certainly might affect your Green Card status:

    ===========================================================

    Factors in Determining Abandonment of One’s Green Card

    In avoiding and/or defending a charge of abandonment of green card privileges, it then becomes important to know some factors the government will consider in determining one’s intention:

    1. Temporary Purpose of Trip Abroad
    2. Employment
    3. Family Ties in the U.S.
    4. Maintaining a Home in the U.S
    5. Financial Ties in the U.S. (.e.g., bank account, real property)

    Can a Reentry Permit Help?

    While obtaining a reentry permit is not an absolute guaranty that you will not be challenged with abandonment of permanent residence, but rather makes it less likely. You should always be prepared to demonstrate as many of the factors described above should you be faced with defending your green card status. With this in mind, if you intend to make a trip outside the U.S. in excess of one year, it is advisable you consider obtaining a reentry permit. A reentry permit may be obtained by filing form I-131, however, you must file while actually physically present in the U.S. The permit itself, which is valid for two years, may actually be picked up abroad at a consular office.

    Finally, it is also important to note that your time outside the U.S. will generlly not count as ‘physical presence time for purposes of filing for naturalization.

  9. Hey guys,Congratulations to all those who have started receiving a word on their EADs/APs/GCs.I have checked my status and for some odd reason, even though it has been a little over a month since it has been since my bio-metrics appointment, I see that my status still says Initial review. Did you have the same status and when did it change? Also, I am not quite sure how you figure that USCIS touched your case.appreciate any response.

    I believe you will be in the "Initial Review" stage until they send you an inverview letter or an RFE (God forbid). So, I would say, it's normal. Regarding the "touches", when you sign up for the case status updates, the main page you see when you log on is a list of Cases and their corresponding dates as to when they were last "touched" or reviewed.

    Hope this helps..

    Oh! and thank you =)

    Just got my EAD in the mail today,,,after few hours uscis said that my i-485 has been approved! yeehaww! Goodluck July filers!

    My sincerest congrats to you!!

  10. I cannot believe this, but our i-485 (Green Card) has been approved and a Green Card is being sent to us! *Am I dreaming?*

    We haven't even had our interview yet (which is supposed to be in a month) and no words on our EAD card since NOA1.

    hmm.. we'll live in our mailbox for the next couple of weeks! hopefully it's true what I am reading right now..
