I had my interview at the Los Angeles field office this morning. The appointment was for 8:00am. I arrived at the waiting area exactly 30 minutes before. I got called in at 8:10 by a female IO.

She asked for my drivers license and green card and made copies of them in the hallway on our way to her office. In the office, I took an oath to tell the truth and then sat.
She asked for how long I have been a permanent resident and with my answer being 3 years she asked for evidence that my husband and I are still together. I brought out my pile of documents and offered them one by one. She took the ones that I didn't include in the original application packet (Our 401K information showing each other as the beneficiary, work benefits elections showing each other as dependants, vacation details after originial application), then she took the most recent of the documents I had already sent(household bills, bank account statements, mortgage statements), everything else she asked me to keep including the tax returns from the last 3 years, she said she has those already.
She asked whether we have children together and I said no. Then, basically we went through the application page by page. We lingered a little on the trips taken. I listed just the one trip that I had taken in the past 3 years since I became a permanent resident. She asked how many trips and I said 1. She asked whether I was sure about this and I was panicking already. I answered firmly yes. Then she said she has many entries that came back in my report. Turns out the background check returns all trips in the last 5 years so all the trips I took between 2009 and 2011(which were many, although each lasted 2 weeks or less) when I was jetting in from Dublin to visit my husband here in the US came up too. So I explained calmly that I thought I was supposed to list just the trips I took since I started living here, not the ones I took to visit the US as a tourist. We moved on.
We completed the application review and I signed in a couple of places that she pointed out to me.

    The English test was next:
READ: What is the largest state
WRITE: Alaska is the largest state

    Civics Test next:
What is the name of the national anthem?
What is the rule of law?(*Note that she required me to say all 4 statements: Everyone must follow the law, leaders must obey the law, government must obey the law, no one is above the law. I paused after the first one, unsure whether one was enough and she said "go on..." )
What happened on September 11 2001?
How old must a citizen be to vote in the presidential election?
Why do we have 13 stripes on the flag?
What ocean is on the west coast..?

She typed for a minute and then said Congratulations, I'm recommending you for approval. She handed me the sheet of paper that showed I passed the tests and I'm recommended for approval. Told me the next oath date for LA is Dec 19, that I might be scheduled for that one or if its filled up, I might be scheduled for the next one in January.

That was it. I was out by 8:42am.

Almost there...hoping for the December oath date, want to be over with this immigration journey by the end of the year.

    Good luck to everyone!

    That's great, congratulations!
It's been pretty quiet on the May thread. My interview is on Monday. I hope I remember my civics and history answers after all the feasting over the weekend.
    Happy Thanksgiving!

I posted my experience in the May filers' thread but thought it might help someone in the future to have it separately, in case someone goes searching for it. I definitely read all the LA interview experiences even those dating back as far as 5 years!
S, here goes, with a few more details:
I had my interview at the Los Angeles field office this morning. The appointment was for 8:00am. I arrived in front ofthe building at 7:00am, there was already a long queue and I joined in. Made it to security at 7:17 but was delayed a few minutes here because everything I had on set off the security alarm (jewellery, belt, shoes) Anyway I made it through and headed up to the 6th floor where my appointment was set for. I arrived at the waiting area at exactly 7:30. I handed my appointment notice to the lady at Window 1 and was asked to be seated until an office calls my name. There were roughly about 30 applicants waiting. Some waiting with relatives, some with lawyers. I got called in at 8:10 by a female IO. She asked for my drivers license and green card and made copies of them in the hallway on our way to her office. In the office, I took an oath to tell the truth and then sat. Wow, tough situation there. Shish...just amazes me when I hear of parents like these. I can't imagine myself in a million years treating one of my kids like that...no matter what! Were the parents against your marriage in the first-place?
I applaud your self-restraint. I know it's hard to hold your tongue and keep a positive attitude in this kind of situation but just hang in there since you have nowhere else to go for now. For God's sake, once you are in a position to get out, please do. Dont wait to afford anything fancy, just somewhere to lay your head IN PEACE. Things will get better.

Since she will still be under 18 at the time , she automatically becomes a US citizen when her mom becomes a US citizen. You can apply for a US passport for her using her mother's naturalization certificate.
N600 is optional. File for it if you want her to have her own certificate of citizenship, but usually a US passport is enough evidence of citizenship.

Well it took me 16.5 years to get here so I consider it one of the most important interviews of my life. To each their own and each person's experience is different but I wore a suit, treated her and the situation with respect and was treated respectfully and kindly in turn. You get what you give in this life.

Im sorry but... are you joking??? You shouldnt hide or lie in any application and even less in an interview... So as an answer, you have to disclose every marriage and divorce... Even if you want to you dont forget your sad past... so ask him to call or go to the city hall of where he got married or divorce and ask for a copy of the record... DONT LIE!!!!!!! Gather the documents!!!! All the lies come up to light in some point, so stop risking yourself

Sorry this happened to you...and sorry that some people on here throw their two cents in without an ounce of compassion...I hate online gangsters, especially the ones that wont dare to show their picture! I don't blame them though because VJ allows them to bully people that are already feeling down and they reward them with 'platinum status' which they accept proudly as if it's getting them a free room upgrade somewhere. ANYHOW...I went thru something so similar as you, in fact as I was reading it...I had to ask myself if you were somehow married to my ex. lol. I know you are feeling like you wasted so much time and money..I know you are emotionally spent, angry, hurt and confused. I felt all those things when my ex did it to me. I was embarrassed and ashamed! As for you staying and continuing on with the relationship even though you knew something was wrong from the start, don't beat yourself up over that. People do it everyday...for the kids, for finances, etc. My ex came here on a fiancé visa and before he even got here, I felt something was not right but I still went ahead with everything because I felt like if I didn't I'd be letting him and his whole family down. So I convinced myself that everything was fine instead of listening to my gut instinct. You feel like you invest so much to give in, so you just keep going praying for something to turn around. Well, it didn't...in both our cases. But I can tell you, it's not worth dealing with him anymore. Whatever is going to happen with his immigration situation is going to happen with or without you. My ex got to stay cuz he had the nerve to say I put him out and filed that VAWA or whatever it's called. I was so mad at first and all I wanted to do was fight fight fight for my name not to be dragged thru the mud. But at the end of the day, I realized he wasn't worth it. My best advice to you is just let it all go. You moved out of the house and that is a good start. You reported to the right people already that you are no longer with him and that is all you can do. The system does not work in our favor at times and I had to learn to accept that. The best thing I did for myself was to move on and close that chapter in my life. You say you are single with no child...but it's actually better you didn't have a child with him right? You will find someone one day that is worth all the things you do for him....who will appreciate all the things you do for him. Anything that a man sows, he reaps. He'll get his one day! Its been 5 years since my ex formed up his argument and walked out the door. To this day he is single, still trolling dating sites online and working in a factory just to have everyone back home stretching their hand out to be fed. I, on the other hand, am prosperous, happy and married! Every dog has his day, and he will surely have his!

Love this thread. Here I go....
You know your husband's African when he's able to fashion a "dress" out of a bed sheet. (me: "where the f is the bed sheet????" ..... Look up and see my husband walking around the house nekkid with a freakin bed sheet dress on!!!!)
You know your husband's African when he finishes cooking his food, leaves it in the burnt-to-a-crisp pot, on the stove, ALLLLLLLLL day!!! (holy hell, why do we even have a refrigerator???)
You know you husband's African when HIS PANTS ARE SO FREAKIN TIGHT THAT YOU ALLLLLLWAYS KNOW HOW HE'S "HANGIN".
You know your husband's African when he starts eating THE BONES in whatever animal it is that he is eating at the time! (..."the bones have juices! It's good for your eyes!!!!" - vomit)
You know your husband's African when he drives. (nuff said)
You know your husband's African when he gives you a card but he signs his name at the top and your name at the bottom.
You know your husband's African when he mixes water with his pop. And drinks warm water.
Yep...my husband is most def African. Shall I go on? Cause I could be here all night!

That's too funny. I can relate to that and I sympathize with him.
I'm from tropical Australia, have been here for more than 12 years and I'm only just starting to go outside after our long winter. The snow has finally melted so I may even go out and collect our mail today. One of our neighbour's asked my husband when I was coming back from Australia. He said I didn't go anywhere but I was inside the house all winter. He told them they should start seeing me in the next couple of weeks.
The snow was a novelty 6 years ago when we first moved here and I even made a snowman. It turned out to be a 5 foot high Koala which I called Snowala. It made the local newspaper. I haven't made any snowmen since then.
