polar1979 got a reaction from ceadsearc in My girlfriend of 4 year's OPT is expiring in February 2012, and it's about that time...
Propose to her and get married NOW, get married at a court house in front of a judge (no big wedding nesessary, you can have that later when you're ready). After you have the marriage certificate in hands, file the I-485 Adjustment of Status with I-130 and I-765 and I-131 (optional), and she will get her green card by Febuary, good chance she won't have to quit her job at all. The sooner the better, these days USCIS takes only not more than 4 months to process a green card application. Even if she doesn't get her green card by feb, she will get the work permit (I-765) way.. sooner than feb anyway.
Read the guide on this website http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide2 everything you need to know is on there.
    Good Luck.

polar1979 got a reaction from Max1gk in Becoming a US citizen
She can live and work here legally.
She cannot apply for US Passport because passport is only for a citizen, it's a symbol of being a citizen of such nation.
She cannot vote, do not vote or claim to be a US Citizen in ANY form of both government or private secter EVER, this is real serious.
She can get welfare but is NOT recommended at all, never apply for Food Stamp, SSI, Disability, Medicaid or any other mean-tested benefits. If she apply for any of those benefits it will likely be a problem when she's applying for Naturalization.
She can get SSN and Driver License.
She can get grant or student loan for collage as these are not considered mean-tested benefits.
She can pay for collage at a residencial rate, will not be considered an international student.
    She can collect unemployment.
Any more questions, just ask away.

polar1979 got a reaction from Inky in what is the strongest evidence of bona fide relationship do you think?
I would agree with Just_Bob , I just read a news somewhere on the internet that 382 Thai women got arrested for drug trafficking. They carried drug from countries to countries by hiding the stuff in their private parts of their bodies. However, after the investigation, it turned out that those women didn't really want to do it, they got married to foreigners and their foreign husbands forced them to do it or they would get beaten or even hunted and killed if they try to escape because they already know too much. And guess what!....most of them are PREGNANT!!! You'd be insane if you call those couples legitimate, right? So I'm sure kids are not the No.1 evidence here, maybe No.2 or 3, but certainly not No.1.
