I believe in everything until it's disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it's in your mind. Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now?

    Gowon,
Come out from your facade and reveal yourself. You do not post a timeline (that would benefit others). You have no information regarding what part of the immigration process you are going through. You anonymously go around making malicious, sarcastic comments mostly aimed at other peoples post rather than offering insight to the OP. Should you want to respond to me, please do so outside of another person's post, as I will do the same from this point forward.

Oh no I'm sorry he can't come to the phone right now because I have him chained up in the basement with his mouth taped shut , so that he can't call out for help. It's punishment, I run a pretty tight ship around here.
Frank, Frank is that you? I haven't talked to you in ages! How have you been? How are the kids? Sorry to hear about your wife... Continue to ramble on until they hang up on you for a change.
Oh my god! I can't believe it! My psychic was right! She said that a man with the answers to all my problems would call. Well since my problem is that I am emotionally unstable and about to lose my mind from loneliness, I thought I could come live with you since you have all the answers! Once again keep on rambling till they hang up.
If they start out with, "How are you today?" say, "Why do you want to know?" Or you can say, "I'm so glad you asked, because no one seems to care these days and I have all these problems, my sciatica is acting up, my eyelashes are sore, my dog just died...." When they try to get back to the sales process, just continue on with telling about your problems.
Last but not least, Hey want to come over and help me sacrifice a goat?

For you to get your license you need to take eye exam, pass knowledge test, and pass driver test (unless you have an out of country license that is reciprocal)
You also need these documents (link to IBMV)
EAD will prove your lawful status
Good luck with getting your driver's license.. You now have all the information you need.

Que Saudade got a reaction from Kukolka in What is a DECENT salary in America?
In today's economic times... A good salary is when you have a job and can put food on your table.
The misconception that America is the land of milk and honey just isn't so.
Unemployment is high and the competition for jobs is great. It is a buyer's market for employees.
Don't worry so much about the salary. The emphasis would be finding a job. If you go into an interview with demands of a salary, you may just talk yourself out of the position as there will be another person in the file to talk to.
Good luck in your job hunt..!

Forget the age issue. The money issue is a bigger hindrance. Still being in high school, I would bet to say that her yearly income is not that much. You need to consider the financial factors, and indeed if you are mature enough, they will make sense to you.
Travel expenses. You two have at the very least 2 trips to make. One for the meeting in person and the other when you come over. This can be in the neighborhood of a couple of thousand dollars.
Filing of application expenses. Jay-Kay did a nice job of explaining that one. I will just say one thing about affidavit of support, "Who is going to sponsor you?" You should research the affidavit of support (I-134 and I-864)
    Now, comes the goodies...
    Life expenses
Car payment, unless hers is paid off already then that leads to:
Car Insurance. Since you guys are now married, both of you have to be maintained on the insurance. Since you both are under 25, your premiums will be very high.
    Gas
    Health Insurance
    Dental Insurance.
Rent, I doubt you can qualify for a mortgage yet with neither of you having any work/wage history. Depending on where you live, this can be from moderate to outrageous.
    Electricity
    Water
    Gas
I'm sure you both want to have a better education. So consider, College tuition. Just another wonderful added expense. A very small liberal public university will set you back $7,000/person per year
Do you like TV? Be prepared for the cable bill. HD and premium channels just boost that cost right on up.
Want to use the computer.. Yep you got it, add another bill on here... Internet
    Oh yeah, and FOOD...
Keep in mind that you can't work until you get your Employment Authorization which comes after you are married and file for adjustment of status.
So, never mind what age you are, let's have a real honest discussion about the ability to take care of your family.
It is increasingly difficult to make ends meet. Divorce rate is high, finances have been shown to be a leading factor (right up there with infidelity).
    Divorce Statistics
Understand, I am not saying that you can't do it, I am saying it is difficult and you need to be as prepared as possible, or you are setting yourself up for heartache later. Take the time to realize all the angles of getting married. Have an honest discussion with yourself and your fiance about how you 2 will overcome all of these issues.
    Then, go for it.
    Best of luck...

Que Saudade got a reaction from PrupleBlue in I-94 Original or Copy? Need help with AOS!!
I don't think the OP was stating anything was lost.
If you file for AOS after 1 year from the medical, then you need to do it again. If his vaccination portion was marked incomplete, then he needs to only fulfill the vaccination requirement.
Medical Examination of Aliens Seeking Adjustment of Status. If you are a K-1, K-2, K-3 or K-4 visa holder the I-693 instructions state that you are not required to have another medical examination as long as your Form I-485 is filed within one year of your overseas medical examination. If you are missing any shots from your overseas medical a I-693 vaccination transcription is required to be completed by seeing a Civil Surgeon to have certain portions of the I-693 completed and have the Civil Surgeon certify the form (sealing the original in an envelope and giving you a copy).
If the medical is within one year AND the vaccination requirement was fulfilled at the time the medical was done, then nothing needs to be done, it will already be in the sealed packet you he handed over at his POE.
See instruction 11 from the VJ AOS Guide for K1 here (actually use this guide as a checklist for your packet)
Yes, only send in a photocopy of the I-94
Yes you need to send a copy of your marriage certificate. If you have other evidence, then send it in. USCIS understand that K1 couples who adjusting status have just been married. This is one of the reasons for the 2 year conditional green card.
Good luck and hope this helps

    Interesting case...
    1. Where did you get married? Was it in 'Pinas, or was it in Japan?
    2. Who filed for divorce? Was it you, or was it your ex?
    3. Is your current legal name different from your maiden name? Did you ever use your husband's last name?
    4. Do you have a recent CENOMAR/CEMAR? If so, what does it say?
My opinion is that you won't have a problem with your Embassy interview because you have your papers showing that you are divorced.
However, you potentially could run into a problem with the CFO. If you can't get a CFO sticker, you won't be allowed to board a flight from 'Pinas to the U.S.

Excellent advice and information. The USEM is only concerned with official documentation and, in this case, the CENOMAR. Having copies of your divorce papers is nice, but they are like having a copy of the "National Enquirer" magazine. They both make good reading but hold not official value to the USCIS or USEM. Just my educated opinion.

Those folks have a slightly different situation then you and your GF. They come from very poor circumstances to begin with so even earning minimum wage is worth moving illegally to the US I suspect. THere are many who never become legal (see the current election issues).
Coming illegally isn't helpful for your futures though since she could never work legally, she'd always be looking over her shoulder wondering when immigration is going to show up at the door, you know? It totally sucks that doing it the legal way costs $$$ and you can see all those illegal immigrants who never pay a cent. I think they pay teh price in other ways by always being in fear they'll be deported, no really good healthcare etc....

Place it in an envelope and return to sender with a nice letter explaining why you are returning it. i.e. you don't know where she is, she has left you, etc.....
Best wishes in your current situation.

I'm sorry, but it's hard to buy that someone leaves their third world country to be with the love of their life and when the marriage goes sour (usually at some immigration milestone), they can't leave and go home because they have nothing to go home to, particularly when they leave their spouse to seek refuge with their family member(s) or life-long friend(s) two cities over.

Que Saudade got a reaction from jasonofape in RFE - NO tax return!!!
    According to the IRS
If you are a U.S. citizen or resident alien, the rules for filing income, estate, and gift tax returns and paying estimated tax are generally the same whether you are in the United States or abroad. Your worldwide income is subject to U.S. income tax, regardless of where you reside.
    You can read more here
Every US Citizen who wants to maintain certain benefits should file taxes, typically they don't have to pay much in taxes on income derived from working abroad, unless they make a lot of money. But, they have a return filed. You may want to talk to a tax expert that is knowledgeable about this particular area. It may be that you can file late.
