Assuming K1 would be processed faster than CR1, now either you have patience and get it fixed right way and file i601 as reccomended instead of coming up with fake excuse of 18 months of sepration and family tradition and customs.

In general it takes anywhere from 6-8 wks for GC to come, I already had my SSN when I came but I have heard stories on here where even when ppl had checked yes box they have not got it and some have got it.
You should be able to visit the SSN office and apply or wait 6-8 weeks and if you dont get you can apply. You I551 stamp is your GC - valid for 1 yr.
If you plan to visit SSN office I would suggest visit after 3-4 weeks so there would be enough time for your information to sync over and they can see validate your status with DHS.
Yes you can apply for jobs and your I551 stamp would work and most employeers understand it takes few weeks to get SSN and they would either wait or would let you start the job and later update the SSN.

US is not the place where ppl just come to deliver the baby at cost of American Taxpayers.
I would 100% agree that 14th Amend should be ammended where undocumented and temp (tourist visa) mom when deliver should not get the US citizenship.

Nobody in this thread said it wouldn't be possible for your in-laws to get an extension. Some were trying to persuade you against it with very good reasoning. The most important reason being that once a person has received an extension on a visitor visa, their likelihood of getting another tourist visa in the future diminishes. In my opinion, you should have taken Darnell's advice.

Poor performance? Measured by who? The consular folks have considerable training in interviewing techniques. Usually the people who claim 'poor performance' are those whose friends and relatives were denied a visas. The VOs are not to blame. It's the lack of border enforcement and ensuring that people who arrive depart when they say, are not allowed to change their status (except from a K1) nor be granted waivers. If all of those elements were in place (and fully supported by our Congress and others), then more people might well be granted the opportunity to visit (or study) the US. But since the entire system is full of leaks, well, the VOs are the only ones who are focused on reducing the flow of illegal immigrants or those who wish to work without permission in this country.
there are not enough personnel in an embassy to chase down every fraudster....and even if some are caught, our politicians are reluctant to back our current laws and render those folks ineligible for a visa for the rest of their lives, without exception. Thus, there is no meaningful penalty awaiting those who fabricate documents or engage in other actions to get US visas by using fraud, etc.
If a country's citizenry has shown a propensity as a group to abuse the privilege once given to them, it should come as no surprise that our VOs will bear down harder on the next batch of applicants.
Intentions cannot be measured by a document....there is no specific piece of paper, when presented at a tourist visa interview, that instantly overcomes 214b and proves without a doubt that the intentions of a given applicant are bona fide. If there were such a document, every future visa applicant in the world would soon possess one.
If Congress had real courage, and backed up our policies without exception, while closing loopholes (step 1: eliminate the DV program altogether...much simpler and more efficient) which allow people to scam our system with little chance of being penalized. Nor can any US citizen be held accountable for the actions of a visa holder....there is nothing in our laws nor Constitution that gives any US citizen any legal authority over another person (especially one visiting the US) nor penalizes that same citizen if their friend or relative abuses a visa.
So blame Congress for starters....

To maintain your legal status you will have to attend school full-time.
You can do USMLE on side that is not a problem, you will not be able to work for any hospital until you find a hospital that is willing to sponsor your work visa.
It is not just coz you pass USMLE you get H1, you need a employer who is willing to sponsor.

On B2 tourist visa kids cannot go to school, that is not allowed.
They cannot get SSN either, I am surprised that school did let them enroll with B2 visa.
B2 is for tourist purpose, maximum they can stay is 6 months at a time and then need to return back home. 3 year visa means they can come to US anytime during that 3 year, cannot stay in US for 3 years.
