Lovemad reacted to Confusedtinybird in Foreign Llb. grad and Bar passer with foreign Government work experience weighing options for work in America
    Hi there,
Don't want to rain on your parade. But I was going to get a foreign law degree then I found out most states dont accept it and it's useless. I did a lot of research into this. Look at people doing their JD now in the USA they graduate from top law schools and they can't find work. Law schools are turning out so many lawyers and there isn't enough space for them. What I have found is most states, and it varies from state to state what you to have a Master of Law. Then you have to sit for the bar and pass it. Some want you to get your JD and won't even accept your foreign degree. You should find out what you need to do in Colorado and tell them what you studied and where you are from.
It also matters if the country you come from has common law, civil law, or a mixed hybird system. Law is very complex as I am sure you already know, and it even differs state to state. But seek out advise and ask multiple people.

Lovemad got a reaction from Nich-Nick in Biometrics
    Hi everyone,
I arrived in the US at the end of May on an IR-1 visa, all of my processing was undertaken at the US consulate in London and my husband and I had to send the necessary documents to the NVC. We did NOT adjust status. I am slightly confused, or maybe just completely missed this. But I am waiting for my GC to arrive and according to my case status on the USCIS website, my GC is on its way to me and should arrive at some point this week. This is all straightforward to me, however where my confusion arises is when I received an ASC Appointment notice for Biometrics which is scheduled to take place next week. Please correct me if I am wrong, but as we went through the IR-1 route am I required to go through biometrics? It was my understanding that this applied only if taking the AOS route, when applying for removal of conditions for CR-1 visa holders or during the naturalization process. I have no issues with attending a biometrics appointment but was not aware that it was required for the IR-1 route. I would be most grateful if someone could clarify this for me? Thanks again.

Hi, I wanted to share this news story with you about a deportation process being stopped because of the DOMA ruling yesterday: http://tv.msnbc.com/2013/06/26/judge-stops-deportation-hearing-minutes-after-court-strikes-down-doma/
So the fact that the feds recognize SSM is having an immediate effect. I don't know how this impacts K-1 (fiancee') filings. The DOMA ruling appears not to have declared that SSM is universally constitutional in the U.S., just that those marriages performed in states where it is legal are now considered legal on a federal level (however states that don't want SSM are still allowed to vote that way).
You and your partner could make your way to a state where you can legally marry (if you are not in one already), get married, and then apply as a married couple. At least you know, based on that news story at least, that he can't be deported. I'm not an immigration lawyer, though. This is all just my opinion.
Your partner's willingness to give up a gov't job in Italy is an indication of true love!! My husband is Italian, so I know how coveted those positions are!
The best of luck to both of you!! In bocca al lupo!

Not true. DOMA was struck down yesterday. Same sex marriage that has taken place in a state/country in which it is legal is now recognized by the federal government for immigration purposes among about 1000 other things :-)

    Hi,
Here is the list of documents which I took to my visa interview in London. I appreciate that I cannot advise you about country specific info but hopefully this list will give you some food for thought.
    My documents:

    1) My interview letter
    2) My passport
    3) 3 recent U.S sized passport photos (I got mine from Timpsons, and would recommend them to other UK based VJers as their service is quick and reasonably priced)
    4) Printed copies of receipts for AOS and IV bills paid to the NVC
    5) Photocopy of my birth certificate (original submitted to NVC)
    6) Photocopy of my marriage certificate (original submitted to NVC)
    7) Photocopy of my Police Certificate (original submitted to NVC)
    8) Copies of my DS-230 parts I and II (submitted to NVC with Pt I signed and Pt II left unsigned)
    9) Copies of the I-864 from my husband and my joint sponsor
    10) Copy of my husband's 2012 W-2
    11) Two most recent statements from our U.S joint account
    12) Recent statements from my husband's personal account and for his stocks and shares
    13) Recent statements from my UK savings accounts and stocks and shares
    14) Receipt of payment from my medical and updated vaccine record provided by Knightsbridge Doctors at my medical
    15) The Stubs of my boarding passes for my visits to see my husband in the U.S. (we sent photocopies with our I-130)
    16) Copies of the pages in my husband's passport with stamps to show he visited me in the UK
    17) Some recent pictures of the most recent time my husband and I saw each other, which were not submitted with our I-130
    18) A selection of greeting cards which my husband and I had sent to each other, and also some cards which my in-laws sent to me
    19) The checklists for our RFE and with my interview letter

We sent photocopies of each document along with the originals to the NVC, but I made sure I took another set of photocopies to London as there is now, I believe, a $1.00 charge to photocopy any documents if required at the London U.S. embassy. I was not asked about most of these documents, but I felt better knowing that I had them to hand, if requested.
    Good luck!

Hi there Pinball1921, simply visit the U.S embassy in Panama's website http://panama.usembassy.gov/typesimmi.html and select the option which applies to you. I did a little search and here is a link with information about what physicians conduct medical examinations for U.S visa interviews in Panama and how to schedule a medical examination, http://travel.state.gov/pdf/medical/PNM-MED-MULT-0001-0907.pdf
A useful link concerning preparation for medical examinations I found was on the State Department's website, http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3739.html All you need to do is select the country which applies to you in the drop down box and then it provides you with the appropriate information about where and how to get a U.S visa medical for the relevant country.
    Good luck!

    Hi everyone,
I arrived in the US yesterday, after what seemed like an eternity, to join my husband. My POE was Newark, and I was in and out in about 10-15 minutes but there was a long queue for handing in Customs declarations forms. Everything went smoothly and I am delighted to be reunited with my husband for good, and I would like to thank everyone on VJ for posting their experiences and answering my questions, which helped tremendously on my own VJ. I tried to post a review of my POE but it's not allowing me to do this and says that I need to register first (not sure what I need to register for). Anyway, thanks again VJ and I'll be sure to come on here to help others with their VJs.

UK police certificates are valid for a period of 1 year. On your PCC it should provide the Date of Creation (DOC), provided your interview takes place within 1 year from the DOC you should be fine to use it. Here is a link http://www.acro.police.uk/police_certificates.aspx where you will find the application form and further info for UK police certificates. For any other countries you have lived in, try having a look at the relevant country portals on Visajourney. Good luck!

It's good to see Team USA at the top of the medal table, where such a group of talented and dedicated athletes deserve to be. Congrats to Michael Phelps for ending his career with a gold medal, giving him a total of 22 medals with 18 golds. Fantastic performances also from Gabby Douglas in winning gold in the gymnastics, as well as to the women's gymnastics team overall; Serena Williams in winning the Golden slam; also from the Bryan brothers in winning gold in the men's doubles and some phenomenal performances from Team USA in shooting, rowing, cycling and Judo to name but a few.

Not even funny... dude! In fact once of the stupidist comments from a grown-up, I've ever heard.. Are you a grown-up!
what in the world are you talking about? Seriously? Whats your point? Are you simply trying to start a fight or is there a particular reason you made this stupid comment? Because there are good people everywhere and there are bad everywhere.. And hate to tell you this, Ukraine is included in both categories.. This is not about hating anyone!!!
Is the truth that maybe you simply can't measure up?
What a ridiculous thing to say!!!
You think relationships are hard with American Women.. Ha! Just wait till you get your Ukrainian wife girlfreind here and she starts to see what kind of person you are to say nothing of the Cultural Adjustments,, then come back and tell us how you feel then,,
