Sorry, just noticed this is N-400.. Probably the same though...

I've been looking into getting my wife's foreign degrees evaluated for their U.S. equivalency. I've done some Google searches for education credential validation but, I don't know, they all seem to have a certain "scam" sense to them. It's probably just my unfamiliarity with the process but I still want to be cautious.
Does anyone have any experience with these services? I understand that they would be necessary if she wanted to go to grad school here in the U.S. (or to take the exams to become a licensed professional), but speaking from my own personal work experience, only once in my life have I been asked to show proof/verification of my (U.S.) degree for employment purposes so I don't know if it would be worth it just to be able to claim the degrees she has on her resume.

I just realized the actual ridiculousness of this statement.

I was poked and prodded less by the Dept of Defense for a low-level clearance I had back in the 80s than I was for my wife's immigration process.
Also, USCIS ruined many travel plans over the 6 years that they had veto power over our lives -- trips that we had to wait for USCIS to get off it's rear and do something to the point that we were never able to go. Kind of the opposite of the original poster's situation - they went and don't want to come back early. We didn't plan ours until USCIS was done and by then it was too late to go or impossible due to job constraints.
Speaking of jobs, and despite my wife's simple, straightforward AOS - no previous marriages for either of us, no kids, nothing sketchy in her background - USCIS decided her AOS would take 8 months to process, during which time I, as a contractor making good money with the freedom to work only when I wanted, was forced by USCIS income requirements to accept a horrible job 6 months into her AOS for the simple sake that USCIS could deny her AOS if I couldn't show current paystubs at the time of the interview. Of course, I went through that nightmare for nothing because I was let go when I asked for the morning off to go to the mandatory AOS interview because it fell during my first 60 days on the job.
It was no loss considering I never wanted that job in the first place but imagine the stress of scrambling for a job that you didn't really want or financially need right away but with AOS hanging over your head, not knowing when USCIS would finally process the AOS, only to find a horrible job then lose it with only days to go before the interview because of the interview itself.
Believe me, there was nothing better than giving USCIS the figurative double bird when I walked out of that building for the last time in July after her naturalization.
I stand by the probation officer analogy with the only difference being the penalty for violation of probation being the deportation of the immigrant spouse instead of jail for the USC.
And my advice to the OP still stands...
Request the rescheduling but be ready to travel back just in case, keeping in mind that the late arriving approval (or denial) letter isn't rare. No news means travel back to the U.S. Another person going through naturalization in our local USCIS office received the admission letter to her naturalization ceremony a day AFTER 'her' ceremony took place and she had to be rescheduled.

Passport book was sent out 1 day before the PP Card was but, so far, is lost in the mail. Passport card arrived yesterday. State Dept said to wait 15 days (from 8/24) and, if not received, call to cancel the passport book.
Has this happened to anyone else? How long did it take after canceling it to get a new one re-issued?
The book should have arrived last Friday -- Saturday at the latest. We put in a report for the lost mail using the tracking number so, hopefully, they can find it and deliver it soon without having to cancel the original one.

Can't blame USCIS for this one! lol

I think you'll be in the next ceremony at USCIS. I think they are every 2 weeks. And, it's good that they took the letter because it means that there will be no time lost in mailing it and they can schedule you as soon as possible. It's also good that they will call you to come pick it up this time so you'll know immediately when your oath is.

Hopefully it will next week. Monday is a holiday but you may get a call on Tuesday.

Infopass at Orlando takes forever to schedule or you need a lot of luck to find a last minute cancellation. Go tomorrow. I'm almost certain I remember seeing 7AM on the door when I was there on Tuesday morning. If anything, it is 7:30 at the latest because it was definitely "7". I think they'll at least talk to you and get you into the next ceremony. They've already shown that they don't need much notice.

They asked at security but, honestly, I passed through before my wife even showed them her appointment letter. I just had to show my ID first and I did mention that I was with her. I still think you'll get in with the oath letter and late postmarked envelope.

So sorry to see this... Go there first thing tomorrow, 7AM, with the letter in hand explaining that it arrived after the scheduled ceremony! Do not leave until they re-schedule you for the very next one!
Also, take anything that can help prove when it was mailed. A printout of the text/email and the envelope (if it has a postmark that says Jun 28). My wife's text was on the 22nd but the envelope says 23rd. If your letter was mailed yesterday (or even on Tuesday), there is no way they could expect you to be there today!

InfoPass appointment tomorrow...

My wife is going to try one last time to talk some sense into USCIS and prove to them that she legally changed her name when she filed for AOS 5 years ago to what she wants it to be on her Naturalization Certificate. They only difference between now and her interview back on June 2 is that she went to the SSA and the DMV and had them re-issue her IDs with her full name on them. She'll show them that not only her GC, but her SS Card and FL DL already have the name she wants on them.

Personally, I'm still convinced that having only the middle initial on the previous IDs, and unfortunately it being the same initial as her maiden middle name was, confused the IO at interview time. It still doesn't explain why the GC with her full, correct name wasn't enough to clear up the issue and it also doesn't explain why he insisted that a judge is needed to make the same name changes that she was already able to do all by herself just by presenting the marriage certificate.

Anyhow, the oath is already scheduled for July 21st. If they agree to change it to an administrative oath between now and then that would be just fine, but there is also no issue if they just leave it as it is. Administered by the judge at the court still counts! She just doesn't want a court order entered changing her name from something it never was and that she has never used to what it already is. It's just another needless legal document to have around that they will charge excessively for in the future if it is lost.

Congrats! I'm ready for my wife to be done this Thursday! I was able to come home a day early so I can be with her at the ceremony.
