10,000 rally in Dearborn in support of Lebanon
Carrying banners saying "Stop Israeli Terrorism" and chanting antiwar slogans, some 10,000 people rallied in the center of metro Detroit's Arab-American community in Dearborn on Tuesday, demanding that the U.S. government put pressure on Israel to halt attacks in Lebanon.
Although the protesters were peaceful, their message was strong, representing a profound difference of opinion between two of metro Detroit's most vital communities.
Arab-American marchers carried signs saying "Down, down Israel" and chanted, "One, two, three, four. Stop the bombing. Stop the War."
Meanwhile, members of the Jewish community — who have a rally scheduled for 7 tonight at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield — have repeatedly said that Israel's air strikes on Lebanese targets have been intended to protect Israel from the militant group Hizballah, which is strong in southern Lebanon. Hizballah also has sent rockets and bombs into northern Israel.
Israel's attacks on Lebanon began about a week ago after Hizballah guerrillas attacked a patrol on the border in northern Israel and captured two soldiers.
As many as 226 people have been killed in Lebanon. About 25 have been killed in Israel.
Police estimated the crowd in Dearborn at more than 10,000. Protesters, some draped in the Lebanese flag, marched to Hemlock Park. There, speakers shouted their message to crowds in hopes of getting the Bush administration's attention.
Saying that Israel is killing children and bombing innocent citizens, one of the speakers, Osama Siblani, of the Congress of Arab-American Organizations, said, "This is terror. They are cowards."
The crowd cheered wildly.
"We know that the president is being bought by the Zionist lobby. We know that the (U.S.) Congress is being bought by the Zionist lobby. But "We know that the American people are great people," he said.
For days, reports have been coming to southeast Michigan's Arab-American community of family and friends trapped in Lebanon.
At one point, a speaker held a portrait of Hassan Nasrallah, Hizballah's secretary-general. The crowd burst into applause.
Many people among metro Detroit's Arab-American population say they believe Hizballah — considered a terrorist group by the U.S. government — helped end Israel's occupation of Lebanon six years ago.
The United Nations said about half a million Lebanese have fled southern Lebanon since the recent fighting began.
Bilal Amen, 24, of Dearborn said he's been unable to contact aunts and uncles in the region.
"It's heartbreaking," he said. "Whole villages are leveled. Everything is ruined."
Wajih Hakim, 51, also of Dearborn, said his wife and four children went to Lebanon to visit family two weeks ago and have been unable to leave.
"They're seeing hell over there," he said. "I've been on the phone with them and they want to come home, but they can't find a way out."
Hakim was carrying a large American flag.
"I'm an American first," he said, "but this is a very important cause to me."
The crowd was represented by people of all ages, with parents pushing babies in strollers, teenagers in T-shirts with slogans and older men and women in traditional garb.
Danielle Caltoum, 19, of Sterling Heights walked with a sign that said, "Israel = Terrorism. Get out of Lebanon." She said she has relatives in Lebanon.
"America needs to stop supporting Israel," she said. "Maybe our demonstrating can make it stop."
Some of those views concern many in the Jewish communities of metro Detroit.
"No one wanted this war," said Wendy Wagenheim, president of the Jewish Community Council, a coalition of about 200 Jewish groups in Michigan. "And certainly, emotions are running very high at this point. But there is nothing that will be served by importing the tensions apparently in the Middle East to metropolitan Detroit.
"Unfortunately, there are innocent victims on both sides of the Israel-Lebanon border, and we pray that peace is restored as soon as possible."

I need some major duas/prayers this weekend please... I called the embassy last night and they said we don't have to wait for the letter since it's questionable whether he'll even get the letter since he's in Afgh. they said to just bring his blue AP letter from the interview day and come one down... he told me what "additional docs" they are needing - 1) all passports (old/expired/current) 2) proof of employment for last 10 yrs, and 3) list of residences for last 10 years... we had answered #2 and #3 on the applications way back when but if they want the answers again, we'll give it to them... I don't know what to make of this... I asked if this should be the last step, he said he wasn't sure but "maybe insha'Allah" - and that if they do give him the visa that he should stick around in ISL for another day to pick it up b/c they understand the long journey involved for people from Afgh... sooooooooooo - the plan is that he's going to get his Paki visa tomorrow, leave for Paki on sunday, and be at the embassy on monday insha'Allah - we've got a "hope for the best and prepare for the worst" mentality at this point so we'll just have to wait and see what happens... insha'Allah insha'Allah insha'Allah
Inshallah jee Inshallah .. u deserve it
there you go now you are thinking.well i got my hopes up, a few people got approved, one yesterday and one today for the k3. So maybe just maybe my k3 will get approved inshallah next week. LET HERE SOME CHEERS.
HIP HIP HORAY
Best of luck ! !!!

Hello,
NVC sent me DS 230 packet to me in Pakistan and told me that you will get in 2 to 4 weeks, but after 6 weeks i did not receive packet. I again email NVC that i did not receive the letter they replied that a duplicate letter will be sent and you will receive in 10 to 15 working days. Can any one please tell me if i did not receive again the letter in 1 month can i tell them to send the letter to my spouse address in US ??? Please advise me.
All other letters i receive in time, e.g visa processing fees etc.
Thanks and looking reply.
Zaki
You can request NVC for duplicate. They will issue another copy of DS230.

I cant .. I have a career, responsibilys and my schooling..
I dont have family here.
I can understand your point of view but in life at certain point we have to priorities things. Rather living a depressing life alone here just windup studies, job and everything for a while (short term) and try to spend some colorful, loving stress free months with your husband in his native country I am sure it would be a great experience.

I have been really depressed ever since friday. not resting like I should, unable to concentrate on things. it was a sharp blow to be told 4 security checks. for the life of me I cant figure why we clear on wed and back to the DOS on friday in 2 days. I cant explain it to javed. I am sure they are making us wait til we been married 2 years - that why they did this.
In my opinion it would be great if you just relocate to Pakistan for some time.

While browsing ‘DAWN’ site this morning I came across with following article I think it is good idea to share it with all of you.
US values and culture
THE US ambassador, Mr Ryan C. Crocker, attended a ceremony at the US-funded ACCESS English pilot project in Lahore recently (Dawn, July 8) and said a similar project would be initiated in Multan for 300 high school students.
According to him, learning English through a programme associated with the US consulate in Lahore would (among other benefits) also provide these students with a new window on American values and culture.
It is no secret that for the last few years the US has been overtly and covertly trying to impose its values and culture on Islamic countries in particular, along with the secularisation of their educational systems and polity. Dr Condoleezza Rice’s statement some time back that President Musharraf was carrying out the reforms Washington had wanted in Pakistan’s education sector confirms this.
The ambassador said this ‘new window’ would enhance trust and understanding between the two nations. The question is: why is the American government not taking similar pains to open windows amongst their own students enabling them to know about Islamic values the Muslims hold dear?
The Americans have a reputation in the world for generally not having interest in or knowledge about things happening outside the US borders. I have actually come across some educated and cultured coloured people from various countries, including Pakistan, who were asked by children in America whether they lived on trees back home. Similarly, when somebody told an American lady that he was from Pakistan, she thought it was a place in the US and asked him if the Greyhound bus went there.
The Pakistanis are quite aware of American values and culture. Apart from the positive aspects such as freedom, democracy, philanthropy, hard work, honesty, scientific methodology and equal opportunity, there are many negative ones as well. Drinking, drugs, living together without marrying, pre-marital sex even by teenagers, gay marriages, pornography, immodest dress and behaviour and irreverence are some examples.
When I first went to the US many years ago I was introduced to a married American woman in her early 30s by a friend. She was a military officer but was attending some university classes at the time and was living alone for that reason. One of her first questions was if I was married and I said no. Then, after a minute or so she asked me if I had any kids. Surprised, I reminder her I was still unmarried.
Not to be deterred, she persisted, “But you could still be having kids (by living with a woman).” Barely able to conceal the cultural shock it caused me, I replied, “Not in my country.” I realised she was trying to assess my values. Anyway, it also turned out that she was having an illicit relationship with a married man who was studying there and had left his family elsewhere. Another married woman in her mid-50s was chasing the man about 20 years younger, to satisfy her lust.
Thereafter, I happened to visit a wealthy American couple from the oil industry in Texas along with a common friend. During the meeting we also got introduced to their daughter aged around 20 and her rich immigrant-American boyfriend of about 28-30. The mother casually told us the two were going out on their first date, which made the girl look a little embarrassed. This was again something hardly any Pakistani parents would do even in this age of values compromised by the Hollywood and Bollywood cultures. Things have only aggravated with time.
Frankly, we are happy with our God-given values and don’t need to import what is totally alien to our nature, from America. Attempts to impose them on the world’s Muslims through dictators or other agents, as the US is wont to do to get its policies implemented in South America and the Middle East, for instance, will create more problems than they will solve, like the ongoing war on terror.
I have American friends and am a well-wisher of the US. Nor do I believe in forcing Islam upon anyone, except if they embrace it voluntarily through intellectual discussions, reading books or observing the personal examples set by its adherents, which is how it has become the fastest spreading religion.

i dont know about dallas, many of my friends moved there and they didnt really like it and moved back. They say its too boring, plus i think HOUSton has huge paki community I mean comeon PIA sends flight from that city.
i heard ramadan is really nice in houston masjids. everyone gets together outside lol and have huge meals and then go read magrib
You are right Houston Ramadan is the best; perhaps we have very good Muharram as well. In my opinion Chicago is good place to live. Why you want to move any specific reason? If your family (mom, pop and siblings) are in Chicago then forget about to move anywhere. Most important thing is family.

Psoft have you heard the CD of Azhar Usman, lol. man that guy is hilarious. PURE FUNNY ######.

Moulana Abbas from Pakistan gave a short lecture over the weekend in
Lenasia extension ten,he said that Hazrath Gibrael (A.S.) once came to our
beloved Prophet (S.A.W) and told him that Allah (S.W.T.) has given him
(Hazrath Gibrael A.S) the knowledge and strength to count every leaf on
the trees on earth, every fish in the sea, every star in the sky and every
particle of sand in the entire universe, but there is only one thing that
he cannot count so our beloved Prophet ( S.A.W.) asked Hazrath Gibrael
(A.S) what it was that he could not count, and Hazrath Gibrael (A.S.)
replied : When one of your ummah recite Durood (Salawaath) or send salaam
to you, the blessings that Allah (S.W.T.) showers upon such a person
becomes impossible for me to count.
My dearest brothers & sisters, please do not let a single hour of your life
go by without reciting Durood or sending salaam to our beloved Nabi
Muhammad Must( S.A.W.) , bearing in mind that if Durood is recited slowly,
it takes only five seconds here once again we are shown how blessed are
the Ummah of our beloved Nabi Muhammad Musthupha (S.A.W.)
Kindly forward to everyone you know. May Allah ( S.W.T.) reward you
abundantly
Jazakallah Khair.
