Done with the interview...oath ceremony completed the same day....now a USC !!!

My wife and I arrived at 8:00 AM for 8:15 interview. After security check, etc. were seated in the lobby by 8:07 AM. It was a pleasant place. I was called in first at 8:16 AM. The lady was very nice, professional, and courteous. First she asked for PRC and DL, then put me under oath. Next, I was asked civic questions:

- what is an amendment?

- name one state bordering Canada

- who vetoes the bills

- what is the capital of Colorado

- ??? do not remember the other two :_

followed by reading - where is the White House?

followed by writing - The White House is in Washington D.C.

After that the interviewing officer went thru the N-400 application. When we reached the appropriate section I disclosed that I had couple minor traffic citations (which I had not declared in original N-400 app) and have documentation (MVR and court records.) She made correction to the N-400 and took the documents and attached to the N-400. At the end of reviewing the N-400 she said she is recommending me for approval and if my wife (even thought she was being interviewed by another officer at that time) and I could come back for oath ceremony later in the day. I was excited ! She made me sign N-400 and gave me the approval letter as well as oath ceremony notice. The whole process took ~20 minutes.

Came out and waited for my wife (she was called in 8-10 minutes after me.) Her interview took ~18 minutes and her experience was pretty much same - the main difference being that the lady who interviewed me did let some personal conversation (couple of jokes too) occur, where as the lady who interviewed my wife was to the point.

We went back home, picked our daughter early from school, and went in for oath ceremony. There were ~60 people from 30 countries being sworn in. They let our daughter sit with us. Overall, the oath ceremony was pleasant and quick (about an hour end to end.)

Next step...applying for passport.

I had my interview at the Centennial location. The letter said to not arrive more than 30 min early, so I got there about 15 min before my app. Had to wait a little after my original app time, they were pretty busy. I was called into a small office where a lady asked me the same questions that were on the application. She then had me read a sentence in English, and write the answer in English. After that she asked me 6 history and civis questions (first President, 2 US holidays, CO Governor, the others I don't remember). She took photocopies of my DL and passport, said that I had passed the interview, gave me a piece of paper to return at the oath, and asked if I wanted to come back 1 hour later for the oath ceremony. She said that they try to always get that done the same day as the interview, but I don't know if every weekday is a "ceremony day". The security check personnel at the entrance kept saying it's "ceremony day", so maybe I just happened to have my interview on such a day.

The oath ceremony took just about an hour. We sat in one end of the room, and family/friends at the other end. We were given a packet of passport application, SSA application, and some other stuff. We got to see a video with Obama welcoming us, and a couple of other videos. We said the Pledge of Allegiance, sang the National Anthem, and were finally given our certificate.

Thanks for sharing your experience - it is very useful !

Did you have traffic violations? and did you declare those in your application (questions in section 10 D)? Did the IO ask specific questions or asked for court records of those tickets.

The reason I ask is that I have 3 tickets (all minor traffic violations) in last 15 years, but answered no to the questions in section 10 D as that's how I interpreted them (I wasn't on this forum when I filed my app.) Now, I have the court records for two of those, but do not have any record for one - the Denver court (at Bannock Street) couldn't find it as they can search the records only by First/Last name or by Citation #, and I do not have citation # but do remember that my name was misspelled on that one traffic citation (anf thus they ca nnot find it by my name.)

BTW, it was interesting to find out that they can not search traffic court records by driver license #.

Yes that's is correct, Denver does not do same day oath. It's always held at the same place (can't remember the name now) twice a month I still believe...

I live in Denver, applied in late February 2010, had fingerprints done in mid March, had interview/test done late April. Had the oath ceremony ONE HOUR after the interview!! I'M DONE!!!! YEEEEYYYY, no more USCIS for me.

Hi,

I recently applied for Naturalization based on 5 year LPR. Few weeks back I had put a credit alert on my credit file. Does anybody know if this affects any part of naturalization process?
