BishopM got a reaction from I AM NOT THAT GUY in Fairness and what does it means to you?
Harshly worded...but it is a correct concept of fairness...any laborer of any sort is entitled to their wages. Simple enough...labor = wages. This is economical fairness in its most simplest of states. There is a world of implications behind it...naturally...but the argument is quite sound that this is true fairness.

BishopM got a reaction from ^_^ in 20 Worst-Paying College Degrees in 2010
Very good point...+1.
I 2x flunked 'Into to Accounting I' my freshman year before I finally 'got it' on the 3rd try. After that, I never again had any issues with any of the much more complicated accounting classes which I had to endure my way through . Without preserverance through that first class though my professional life could have/would have turned out quite differently.

BishopM got a reaction from TheBears in Friedrich Nietzsche
I, personally, prefer this one from Paul: "For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."
But anyways, Nietzschze did provide some good thoughts, even for those of us who believe.
Peace,
Bishop

BishopM got a reaction from one...two...tree in Science will win religion!
I'm not 100% sure of course, but I believe that some of the issues that some scientists have with religion (and vice-versa) stems from the Creationist's interpretation of the Bible. This group of Protestant Fundamentalists have denied scientific discoveries which do not jive with their very literal interpretation of the Bible. However, this group's view of science is not the position of all Christians. It is only the view of their particular sect of Christianity.
However, and unfortunately for Christianity as a whole, this group of Christian Creationists gets a lot of press, so I suppose it is possible that a lot of scientists who are uneducated in religion as a whole could naturally consider this stance to be the stance of all Christians, which it absolutely is NOT. Hence, we have the sillyness of such statements as 'Science will win religion'...

Exactly. I have never understood why one would think that the two are incompatible.
However, fundamentalists on both sides do find them incompatible, which is quite odd in my opinion.

BishopM got a reaction from I AM NOT THAT GUY in Young people today are breathtakingly stupid.
Young people today do seem 'different' than they did when I was their age but I wouldn't say that they're less or more intelligent.
In fact, I wouldn't say that 'people' in general are any more/less intelligent than they have been for the past 500+ years. Our surroundings are different, but I suspect that the overall level of intelligence is about the same at its base level.

BishopM got a reaction from one...two...tree in Higher education's bubble is about to burst
My son has just finished his freshman year of college. I'm glad that he's going (at my urging) to a junior/community college. The tuition is 30% of a standard state university and he can fully transfer the credits to the state university when he finishes his next year of college. I mean, why pay big bucks for basic English/Science/History/Band Class/etc when you can take them at the local junior/community college for much less and then transfer? At the end of the 4 years, he'll still have a diploma that says 'State College'. I really don't understand why more students don't follow this path...but...maybe its because other parents aren't a big of a cheapskate as I am

BishopM got a reaction from I AM NOT THAT GUY in Adverts to promote positive view of Muslims
This is well said. I have been reading the Bible for years, and I have a Bachelor's degree in Christian religion (Protestant based), Masters Degree in Sacred Scripture (Roman Catholic based) so the Bible has meant alot to me over the past decade or so. Yet...I definitely remember way back many years ago to when I read the Bible from end to end for the first time. I remember finishing the book and putting it down and immediately thinking to myself, "What the HELL was that all about!?!?" It truly scared me.
However, I learned a valuable lesson from the experience of that first complete reading. The lesson is that one must continuously read the Bible (and I suspect the same is true for the Quran) in order to really understand it. One CANNOT cherry pick verses and utilize that to craft a theology of hate/fear...that is all too easy. I don't think that is the intention of either of these books.
But...that is just my experience
Peace and Blessings,
Bishop

BishopM got a reaction from Susita in Commies 4 Christ...Redux Part Deux
We have to let go of things...through loss of memory or not...
I was talking to a Hindu person once about 5 years ago and I was telling them about what a hard time I had during my late 20s/early 30s. I then remember telling this person that even though I had the 'general memory' of it being a difficult time, I could no longer really remember any of the real details of what made it so difficult. That person then told me that this 'losing of memory over time' is a gift from God, less we dwell on the past too much and fail to live in the present. I remember how that struck a very deep chord in me...and resonated beautifully with the the unknown graces of God...his release from our woes...
Peace to you my Brother,

BishopM got a reaction from The_Dude in Save Israel
This is more of a Protestant view of salvation vs. a Catholic view of salvation. Catholics view Islam as a religion created by God through Abraham and by God's promise to Ishmael of a 'great nation'...
Agreed. This is quite beautiful.
