Hey so I just wanted to let you know what my interviewing officer told me today. I've always been unsure about whether or not I'd apply for citizenship and so I asked him if in the oath they make you renounce your Canadian Citizenship. He said, "No we can't and won't ever take that away from you. We just only recognize you as American, but you can have as many other citizenships as you want. As long as when you come into the States, you use your American passport."
So I know I've heard that all along, but I thought it was kind of interesting hearing it from the immigration officer.

So when you linked a wikipedia article in the previous page to respond to Amby, then it's an acceptable scholarly entry. But when someone posts something from there, that contradicts what you say, then it is an unacceptable resource? Do you even realize how much of a ponce you look like when you post like that? You are so full of yourself.

If i was walking around with a ski mask on, pretty sure I'd get stopped and asked what I was up to. Covering your face, in my opinion is kind of a security issue. At most banks, you're not even allowed to wear a hat or hood on your coat...

How about a $100,000 TAX for each illegal hired, seize property to collect the tax? Hmmm? How about we enforce our laws preventing employers from exploiting workers with low wages, no benefits, no workman's comp? If it was Walmart "exploiting" white legal employees with minimum wage and no benefits there would be all kinds of liberal outrage. But because it is brown people being exploited it is OK with the racists. Bastards!
Implement a reliable E-verify system, require ALL employers to use it to verify EACH employee or contractor hired, TAX the living ####### out of anyone that does not comply and be done with it. Problem solved!
No deportations required. The freed slaves will WALK home. We have plenty of legal workers here already to do the work we have. We need to stop business from exploiting humans for $$$ and the racist practice of only giving these basic dignities to people who aren't "brown". I am about sick of racist pigs exploiting brown people to line their pockets with CASH and avoid our Social Security and Medicare systems

You can't generalize everybody just because they are one religion or another. If you add the total number of muslims in the world... its more than 1.5 billion. Out of that 1.5 billion you have a sect that does indeed go against what Islam is about. Just as you have christians, jews, hindus, etc that also go against their own teaching. If muslims wanted to do harm to everybody... with 1.5 billion of them don't you think they could just do it?
Most of muslims, jews, christians are peaceful caring ppl just wanting to create a life with their families happily and help others.
So i do think this is just wrong of Lowes to pull this add when all this show is trying to do is create some knowledge instead of fear.
I agree too its much better to watch this type of show rather than some crazy reality show that goes against good values and morals.

I agree. Maybe some of these people here should have been the jury for the Casey Anthony's case. I am sure they would have found a lot of evidence there to have find her guilty. Yes, this person made a huge mistake, haven't you at any given time of your life? This person is just asking for advise on how to proceed. This is supposed to be a place where people can get help and advise, not to be attacked.

Just Bob, I appreciate your post and I respect your opinion but I still just can't agree with you. I don't even understand your explanation of why you kept your german citizenship. I mean, you make such a big deal out of your commitment to the US, but then you say when the sh*t hits the fan, you can always go back to the safety of the german system? That doesn't sound right to me.
I also come to think you have completley misunderstood where I was coming from and I think, just maybe, you don't want to see the point I was trying to make because apparently I am not the only one who thinks you are seeing it to much "black and white"
While I am not about to take the Oath, not anytime soon, I am confident I will be able to do so without feeling I am betraying either the United States nor Germany and that I will be a rspectful and respectable citizen of both countries.
I have done some reading too and nowhere did I find anything that comes even close to what you say about what it means to become an American.
Maybe that term alone needs a clear definition because I can see how the formal process of becoming an American is a lot different than the emotional process people go through.
Again, I respect the way you feel about being an American now and I am sorry if what I wrote offends you, but honestly I think you are misinterpreting what it means to take the Oath of Allegiance.
And btw, the discussion was me asking about proper etiquette during the National Anthem;-)
Sorry if I might sound harsh, not having a good day today..

Sorry but I strongly disagree with Bob here. I will always be an Aussie. Joining another country doesn't make me any less Australian but it does make me American as well. This is why there are terms like "Chinese American" and "British American" because there are mixes and there's nothing wrong with that.
I won't ever give up Aussie, I would choose it over US if forced to (at this point in time) but that doesn't mean I don't like the US or wouldn't want to be a citizen of the US either. Nor would it make me a "bad" American.
It's just not that black and white. Not agreeing with how the government does things doesn't make me a "bad American". Apparently this country is all about freedom of speech and choice and what not. I CHOOSE to retain my Australian nationality, I CHOOSE to keep Australian spelling occasionally, I CHOOSE to not try and change my accent. Again, doesn't make me a bad resident and won't make me a bad British Australian American.

Thank you all for your input.
Throwing in the citizenship/dual citizenship issue, this is a pretty complex topic. I won't go into it to deep right now but I think I'd like to adress some of the statements made here.
Just Bob...I respect your opinion and usually I agree about a 100% with you but on this topic I guess we don't see eye to eye.
My plan is to become a US citizen one day but I would def. keep my german citizenship. If I understand it right, once you become a naturalized citizen in the US, you are considered american but at the same time, the US does not have a problem with me also being a german citizen. That being said, I do not believe that the US government expects me to give up my german culture, my way of thinking, my love for Germany so to speak.
I just don't think it's as black or white as you state it. That doesn't mean I take this lightly at all. I would never try to become a citizen just for benefits or out of convenience. I live here, my husband and my children are at least dual citizens, I work here and in a way, I even already as "only" a LPR serve the country like all the other US citizen military spouses. I make the same sacrifices and that not only out of love for my husband but out of respect for what the military does and stands for.
All in all I will say I would not feel I would naturalize for the wrong reasons or I'd be a "fake" US citizen. I just can't see it that way.
If you really mean what you wrote, I wonder why you have dual citizenship yourself because according to your statement, you are only american now, but then you also state, you can be german outside the US. What does that mean for you? Once you are in Germany, you allow yourself to feel home there as well or do you now feel like a stranger there? Because that's where I was getting at with my "german at heart" statement that offended you so much (sorry for that, btw, I didn't mean to offend anyone)
Dan and Judy, thanks for the post and the link, that is pretty much exactly how I'd approach dual citizenship and I am very glad that that's how the US government looks at the issue.
Thanks to everyone for their input on the National Anthem issue:)

Pretty tough subject when it gets down to the nitty gritty. The way I see it, the only reason I'm applying for a green card (and then citizenship) is because I fell in love and married an American man. I'll be sad to leave my country. This isn't to say I hate the U.S., just that I know where my heart lies. There's nothing wrong in seeing yourself as Australian/British/German/Canadian/Chinese etc. at heart - nothing at all. I plan on keeping a dual citizenship because I don't ever intend on leaving Canada in my past. I am honoured that the U.S. has accepted me so far, and so I will always treat it with respect, but that doesn't mean I should repress my inner Canuck.
I am also the spouse of someone in the U.S. military, and although he jokes about me not being allowed to say "eh" or spell words with a 'u' anymore, I know he understands the internal battle surrounding my self identification. I'd actually feel bad for someone who thought they had to abandon where they came from because they felt the need to plunge head first into the melting pot Nothing can take who I am away from me. I'll say the Oath of Allegiance knowing in my heart that I do mean it because I was allowed by the government to live in the U.S. It's like going to a foreign country and saying "thank you" or "hello" in their native language; you have the decency to show respect by acknowledging that you are in their territory and playing by their rules.
After all, aren't we all just citizens of the world?

Here's my shoes. Walk a mile in 'em.
The day somebody judges you for marrying a foreign spouse you might say the same to them. Or simply not care. Good for you if you think you did the right thing by marrying abroad and have a 6+ figure income but luckily, I'm not here to judge that nor your marriage. I'm here for solid information.
Agreed that K1 have some flaws but it's not an exception. As a matter of fact, the cr-1 costs less and the foreign spouse is secured a greencard almost from day one entering the states and then you have the 10 years of being on the hook for i-864 if your spouse decides to marry you only to gain access to a greencard. Almost anybody can marry on their first meeting just so you know, whether it's in or outside US.
