  1. I called my school's international students office to inform them I changed my status. It went like this:

Me: I'm just calling to tell you I changed my status from international student to pending PR, because I got married. I was just wondering if there's anything I need to do?

Her: (in annoyed tone) If you want to immigrate, you need to get a lawyer.

Me: NO, I'm saying I already applied for it. I am just INFORMING YOU, because I'm wondering if there's anything I need to do to let (school) know.

Her: No, just change your address on our website if you move.

    Me: Ok, bye.

Anyway it was a pretty pointless phone call. I'm already done with my coursework, so I don't need the tuition reduction. I was annoyed that she, the "immigration counselor" at a university with #2 international student enrollment in the USA, was completely clueless and giving students erroneous advice like "you need a lawyer". Most people probably don't! I hope no poor student takes her advice.

ummm wow, ok  Some DSOs are just clueless... I went in to see mine last week and she just took a copy of my GC, deleted me out of the SEVIS system and told me to make sure I applied for Financial Aid for Spring :)

And to answer a question,I dont think ya co-sponsr dont have to pay back the Fin aid but I hope someone comes along and verifies this

  2. Last update was on june 11 and the status is inital review but i did biometrics already, they send me a rfe (copy of i94 and visa) wich i send next day( althoug they were send with the initial package), and i recived appoiment for interview on agust 16.

I have two concerns, does anyone know why there is no online update or is this happen to anyone else? Also im still waiting for ead but there is not change in status is stuck in inital review since june 11.

Unfortunately USCIS doesnt do a good job in updating the online statuses. In most circumstances, the status doesnt change even after receipt of the interview and will likely wont change until after the interview. But its nothing to worry about, as long as you've gotten the IL, you have nothing to worry about... All the best to you with the interview

  3. I'm doing the H & R Block course. I was supplementing my income during tax season back in Canada, I'm hoping to be able to do the same thing over here come April 15.

It's not easy breaking into anything right now... I have over 7 years experience in software training and data conversion and getting companies to call me back has proven to be a little challeging :crying: . I had luck in early March, but no EAD thru the company off. So I hope to find something in my field soon, if not, Customer Service job here I come  .

Thats a good thing to go. Hopefully they'll hire u after that cuz H&R block tends to do that.

    This economy sucks major lol

  4. Definately get it changed since its incorrect. Try to schedule an infopass to have them take a look at it since its their error and (hopefully) wasnt yours. They probably thought the second was her middle name and initialed it but they only way that is supposed to happen is if she put the second part of her name in the "middle name" space, which I doubt she did. If you have the forms saved to a hard-drive or in harcopy format, take a look at them to ensure it was not your error.

In the event that its the USCIS error, do the infopass first but if that doesnt help, ya probably gonna have to come up with the money to get it changed, sorry.

  5. I applied to quite a few places and my downfall of course was not having any job experience but what I hate is like on Monster college, they're suppose to post "entry-level" job for new grads but yet still these "entry-level" jobs require 2-3 yrs experience

What taxation course ya doin Krys?

Winonan hon, we gotta do what we gotta. Its hard to break into a field when noone wants to train us!

ohhhhh so excited the baby is up and kicking in there Jannah...

  6. I got a job at Pizza Hut- had two interviews with them yesterday and so the trend continues: "Approved at the Interview" lmbo. Im excited cuz this was my first interview EVER and it went well

On the another note... Went and got my state ID since I cant drive hubby's car (not apart of the car insurance policy :() But anyways Im comtemplating takin the job offer and using this as a stepping stone for now

  7. Congrats ladies... Im glad the letters are coming so soon.

Yes Noth, I had a great weekend. I got a job at Pizza Hut- had two interviews with them yesterday and so the trend continues: "Approved at the Interview" lmbo.:dance: Im excited cuz this was my first interview EVER and it went well

Hubby has his oral surgery on friday (wisdom teeth) so Im a be his little helper for the entire weekend.

  8. What u mean Val? Maybe he was interested in sensii lol

Ok MP.... I agree bout the whole "apply with EAD" thing cuz thats what I did first but they told me they had to verify with immigration which could take more than a week. Thats why I was giving the option of doing it once u get the EAD (it may or may not get u ur SSN asap) or do it with the GC/stamp (which gives overnight approval) and like I said, it make a difference with u guys waiting a day or two after getting the EAD to apply for the SSN. IMO

    WHATS UP WITH ALLA???

  9. Umm I don't think the SSA has any info on You when u get ur EAD. How would they know anythin bout u if u never applied 4 a SS number? So I think they go and check wit DHS Dept of Homeland Security once u put in an application. Previous 2 that they don't have you in the comps. Maybe DHS or Uscis has a system where SSA can log in and check ur info. And then if smth is wrong and doesn't pop up automatically they have 2 contact them which then takes a lot longer.

Is this not what I have been saying?

If u go and apply using ur EAD, they'll tell u to wait for verification When u go with the GC or stamped passport, it'll take overnight for the system to update. Ya get the GC monday, go same day and u can return to SSA on tuesday to get the print-out of your number.
I get ur point but thats approval with USCIS not SSA... they are two diff entities that rarely communicate so approval with USCIS isnt always already updated with SSA, just like when u get the GC, it takes a day to update to get the SSN from them so its the same thing- the previous week or two of approval mean nothing to SSA

  10. Well I would think it would be updated in the system already. Cuz by the time u get ur card the EAD form has been aproved for like week and a half alreaddy (since the first email we got bout ead but maybe it depends on the speed and how organized the local office is)

  11. Hey guys,

I need some advise please. How long did it take you guys to get your SSN card. I went today and the rude woman behind the glass told me it could take 4 - 8wks.

MP0009 how long did it take you?

Ok ppl, let me help out...

Its better to wait until u get the physical GC to apply for the SSN. If u go and apply using ur EAD, they'll tell u to wait for verification thus the 2-4 week wait.

When u go with the GC or stamped passport, it'll take overnight for the system to update. Ya get the GC monday, go same day and u can return to SSA on tuesday to get the print-out of your number.

In your case, you should have been able to get the print-out tomorrow, unless they want tp see the card.

See my signature for how long it took me.... with the GC in hand

  12. oh that is disappointing about it being all temps.. i didnt know ur time was up, thought you might have had some wierd stories of the goings on at the hospital.. i worked as a pharmacy tech in a hospital for a while, i dont miss it at all!!
