Thanks again guys...
My husband is a USC...
And please dont be alarmed but half of the nonsense in my post came from the lawyer I spoke to during an Immigration seminar at my University.
BOB- I know this is crazy but I'm telling you that this lawyer dude is seriously just putting a little bit of doubt in my mind to rely on him... My mom's lawyer got through to her and she spent over $4*** already and yeah... nothing
KAT- that is the only thing we dont have; Affidavits from family and friends, which I intend onn doing. And also finding the phone records when he called me several times a day while I was back home- thanks for the reminder.

Pretty much, I am aware of the requirements as far as completing the forms. My brother, although a different scenario, married his long time girlfriend and my mom hired a lawyer, of which I ended up having to sort and help her with the paperwork because her lawyer really knew nothing... So I do know what is necessary for completion.
The "Lawyer" I spoke to was nervous about us doing an interview because in 2006, I went home to change from F2 to F1 and ended up staying for like 7 months. He said that was "weird" though I explained to him that I had I had to stay to testify in a case (i.e. not my fault) and I got a letter from the Ministry of Justice to take back with me in case any immigration officials questioned my case (though its still in the sealed envelope).
But all in all we're probably gonna do it ourselves. I had a recommendation to speak to a representative from the Catholic Charities if needs be.... THANKS GUYS
Ps... case not complicated... first marriage for both of us and no kids or dependents... lol

I am a student who got married to my boyfriend of 4 years last month. I am currently still enrolled so as not to compromise my status while we are about to file for adjustment of status. I have a few questions that I need help with while we start our paperwork.
I recently spoke to a lawyer who is urging us to hire one as an ideal way to ensure a good chance of acceptance. My thing is my husband is not so keen on paying someone $3000 or more as we've been apart of horror stories involving lawyers. How well is it recommended to hire a lawyer.
ADVICE PLEASE...

I am in the same situation... probably shouldnt file for OPT, as, if you file form I-765 with I-485 and I-130, it'd be free and would get EAD in a few weeks... dont waste money on $340 now when in a month or two it'll be free lol. Personally, I would go get medical/physical done asap, some civil surgeons charge base price for bloodwork, vaccination, physical and to fil out paperwork... Intend to do mine tomorrow ($330) although I dont intend on filing until March.
Do it and get it out of the way...

File forms I-485 asap, and while you're at it, you may want to file I-765 (if spouse isnt working) which would only be $1010 if filed together... Also the biographic form and consider having her do a physical to ensure you have all the documents and hasten processing times...

I actually had the same question when filling out my paperwork- although we are yet to submit. Please note the following...
Did mom come here on a non-immigrant visa and is it still valid? If yes, only form I-485 not A.

The completed for I-130 should make a visa number readily available to her...

Please view and read carefully because every detail matters and can alter the case... ALL the best

I am a student who got married to my boyfriend of 4 years last month. I am currently still enrolled so as not to compromise my status while we are about to file for adjustment of status. I have a few questions that I need help with while we start our paperwork.
1. I recently spoke to a lawyer who is urging us to hire one as an ideal way to ensure a good chance of acceptance. My thing is my husband is not so keen on paying someone $3000 or more as we've been apart of horror stories involving lawyers. How well is it recommended to hire a lawyer.
2. Also, I was told that we should wait at least 3 months after the wedding to send in the documents, so as not to appear suspicious. Is this true because he wanted us to file next month so as to reduce the chances of me having to be in school this summer.
3. Another thing is that we started dating while I was on a F2, then I went back to Jamaica to get my own F1 visa. I actually ended up staying for 7 months, not the recommended 5 months or less due to adverse circumstances. Will tis affect my chances as told to me by the lawyer, that it may appear that I came here with the intention of marrying him, which is false as we only we were together for a year and didnt talk about marriage until last year while I was in school in Detroit.
4. And finally, my mom is also on an F1 and my dad is home in JA, how soon, GOD'S WILL I get approved, will I be able to start filing for them? My mom wanted to file for herself as she'll be graduating from her masters program but I know there is a cap on professional admittances. Wouldnt it be better if she waited until I got my green card?
Please let me know what you think as we have pretty much halted our process... GOD BLESS
