Question for those who have not yet received their 10 year card. What do you use as proof that you have an extention on you expired GC while waiting for you 10 year card? I have searched all over husbands biometric appointment letter and I don't see anything on it. We went to our biometric appointmen on 8.19 and they stamped and initialed the letter - will that suffice? Was it on the NOA letter?

I believe the NOA letter tells you you have a 1 year extension on your GC.

We got our card yesterday in the mail. Glad this step is over for us, and hope USCIS speeds up for the rest of us in July. Let's get this going!

Just got an e-mail from USCIS of "Your Case Status: Card/ Document Production". Woohoo! Finally! This has been a loooooong journey y'all. Google Doc has been updated with approval notice. Thanks all at Visajourney for your great help. Glad I filed the i-751 on my own instead of paying some entry-level secretary at an attorney's office to do a worse job than someone properly informed through these great forums.

It is not true, you won't lose your permanent residency and you are not forced to become a USC. Citizenship is voluntary.

If your GC expires you simply have to renew it, if you don't then you won't be able to prove that you are a permanent resident and won't be able to work, travel, etc. You can renew as many times as you want.

Actually, my dad has been a permanent resident since 1987 and had to renew last year after it expired, and when I did some research, I found that even if your GC expires, you can still continue to travel, work etc. You don't stop being a permanent resident because your GC expires, you have to renew it mostly to avoid hassles, but you're always a permanent resident.

Somehow someone didn't update the latest table with my new info on it, but if someone could update it for me please. My check was cashed 7/20/11 and I received NOA1 7/21/11. Thanks.

For some reason my attempt to copy the info and add myself failed...horribly. Can someone please add me? 7/15 was my sent package date.

What the pizzadude says is true about no time limit on Birth Cert.

Also, when we went in, I'm the petitioner, and the officer asked for my passport. I had only made copies of my birth certificate, but luckily I decided to bring the passport along. The officer then made a copy of the passport and I gave him the copy of my birth certificate also. He also took our interpreter's ID and made a copy of it. In our case, our interpreter was my sister.

Something similar happened to my wife.

I tried to add her to my checkings account at BofA, and they told us they couldn't because it had just been issued. But the lady then said she just needed a manager's approval to authorize the addition.

I'm guessing our case was similar to yours, maybe go to another bank and try it again. The employee may not have known enough to do the paperwork.

Wife went to interview on Tues, Oct 6....Got the approval e-mail that same night!!! Finally, after 10 long months since she got here, all we need to do is wait for her green card to arrive. VJ is the best for figuring all of this mess out.

My wife came here on the K1 visa and we applied for AOS with her married name. We just got approved yesterday for AOS, so there shouldn't be a problem. It took her a bit longer to get her SSN card under her married name, but she got her SSN and EAD under her married name.

UPDATE: Got an e-mail at 8PM last night saying the following:

We've been approved! Now we just have to wait for the card to arrive! I'm just glad we weren't left in the dark too long as to the status of the case.

I would like to thank everyone here at VJ for their help. These threads are most helpful and allowed us to have everything go smoothly at the interview. Now I don't need to think about USCIS for another 2 years.

Had AOS interview for my wife today in Los Angeles.

We got there at 6, they opened at 7, but the interview was at 8:45. There was a line outside and they let us in at around 7:20. At 7:40, my wife's name was called. We were the second person called.

I went with my wife, our 6-month daughter, and my sister (as interpreter). Officer was very, very serious and asked us to swear to tell the truth. Asked my sister to swear to interpret correctly.

First thing he did was take off the I-94 and sign the Fiance Visa on the passport. As soon as I saw him take the I-94, figured we'd be alright (right?).

Some of the questions were:

Asked where our passports were. I was surprised he asked for my passport, I didn't make a copy. He also asked for my sister's passport

How did I meet my wife?

Had my wife received any federal help like welfare? (she said no).

How many children I had with her(I said just one). If I had more children (no.)

If she had more children? (she said no).

He asked for our daughter's birth certificate.

Where our medical exam was. (only needed vaccination supplement).

Where my taxes were. I gave him 2008 & 2007.

He asked my wife if she had ever been arrested, if she had ever committed a crime.

He asked what other documents we had. Gave him cell phone bill with both phones for us. Our apartment lease.

Asked if my wife and daughter had health insurance, if we had copies of her health insurance cards.

Asked me where I worked. If my wife still worked as a dentist.

Asked what other documents we had like photos. Took out a photo album we had. He looked through it and looked at both of us to make sure it was us.

He then left to make copies of my passport, my sister's ID, and some of the photos in the photo album.

He put it all in the packet and said he had reviewed all that was necessary and that we would receive a decision within 45 days. That was it. by 8 a.m., 45 minutes before the interview date, we were out of the building.

Hopefully this means we have been approved. Now more waiting....

Hope this helps those preparing for their interviews. And hope this is good news for us too.

My wife's AOS is pending, and we did an info-pass to inquire about our case's lag. While there, we informed the USCIS official that we had moved. They said they could do it right there for us if we wanted. We did, and now all paperwork goes to our new address. Maybe that's a way of doing it also if you have a case pending.

My wife's english is not so great. Does she need a translator with her for the interview? Or can I translate for her?

UPDATE: Got Biometrics and now got letter for Interview (YES!), but still don't know what to do about the Vaccination supplement. The Interview sheet says I should have the medical or the supplement done with the entire list of things they ask for the interview. My wife didn't have to do vaccinations at K1 medical in Mexico because she was K1 or pregnant (not sure which). But she can get her vaccination records from Mexico that she got them all done. Should we go to a civil surgeon nearby and get it done before going to the interview? Or wait to see what they say at the interview? I'm leaning towards going soon to the doctor, but will he send it to USCIS, which may be lost as stated above?

My wife's AOS interview still pending, eventhough applied in Feb. Question: when I look at the USCIS website, where should I look for for the processing date of the case? Field Office (Los Angeles, since I believe the interview will be there), Service Center (California most likely), or National Benefits Center (MSC). When I look at the case status, it says its at Naitonal Benefits Center, but there is no prcoessing date for the I485, only the I765.

How come everyone from Feb is done except me? Is it because I'll have my interview in Los Angeles? Have had so much trouble. Wife barely got the EAD card last Friday.

Quick question for anyone here. Biometrics were August 13th. EAD had been "approved" april 4th, but nothing had been sent because someone at USCIS somewhere screwed up I think and lost my case paperwork. Does the Biometrics hinder the wait for the interview? Meaning, will we have to wait a couple months for the interview? I hate USCIS.

The wife just went to the biometrics at USCIS application support center this morning, and everything went alright. Except, when we checked her passport, the I-94 stub was missing. Is this normal at the biometrics interview? I had seen in another thread that it is usually taken until the interview itself.

Also, she was told she had to wait for an officer to "approve" something, but she didn't really understand what that "approval" was. She saw that on her form they had us fill out they put her maiden name (we filled it out with her married name). Could it have been this? or something else?

Not having an I-94 will cause problems at the I-130 interview.

But my wife is doing I-485 AOS, not I-130 interview. Is it the same?

Curious - did you ever find out what happened to the EAD? (Or did you get it?) - I don't see a biometrics appointment dating back that far - is the one you're talking about now a second biometrics appointment?

Today's biometrics was the first one. I think what they said when we got the info-pass makes no sense because if it was approved in April, we had not done Biometrics yet. Also, we went on that info-pass thing July 29, and that very same day they sent the Biometrics sheet. I feel like the entire application got lost somewhere and it wasn't until we went to inquire that they realized how past due it was. I would like to think they will make things go faster due to that, but knowing USCIS, I won't count on that yet.

So I applied for the I-485 for my wife with the K1 Visa back in Feb. along with the I-765. Request for Further Evidence was received and USCIS got it in March 19. We had heard nothing since and since we are doing this through a lawyer, we went to the USCIS office through infopass to do an inquiry about the I-765 AND the I-485.

They told us that they approved the I-765 on April 10. However, we never received it. Maybe it was lost through the mail, I don't know. Or maybe it wasn't sent since they didn't tell us if it was sent or not. Has anyone heard of this before? And if so, is there anything that can be done. The lawyer said if we really wanted it to have to re-apply again. But I would like my wife to have it now since she was already approved, not have to go through it again.

Any help is welcome.
