Piefre got a reaction from JL & ML in Can I Start a Business with an EAD?
I moved to the US on a K1 Visa, got married, file for AOS and have my EAD/AP in hand while waiting for GC. I am looking around for work and am still seeking the perfect position, but I'm a graphic designer who has done independent and contract work before my move. I wanted to know if I could open and start my own business with an EAD (I have an SSN too) before I receive my green card. The green card is a few months out, I assume, but there are a lot of contract opportunities I want to take advantage of now before they dry up.

I have to go get my Canadian Driver's license exchanged for a Florida one soon. When I called up the DMV they mentioned that all out of state drivers who are now Florida residents needed to exchange their license within 30 days of moving to Florida. I'm outside of that 30 day timeframe so can I still exchange my license? We had to wait a while for my ssn to come in.

Piefre got a reaction from Yssa3675 in Writing a Check from my CND account to my US account
I've got over 15k sitting my CND bank account that I need to move into my US bank account. I've transferred smaller amounts before by just writing a check to myself and dealing with the exchange rate on it, but I was wondering if there's any magical IRS form or taxes I need to worry about if I write a check for over 15k from my CND account to my US account.

Piefre got a reaction from CaroSL in Non-Legal Ceremony in Foreign Country??
I faced this same issue during my K1, and in the end, I chose my visa over the wishes of my family. No ceremony. Period. They were pretty upset about it, they said I was being unreasonable and paranoid. I didn't care what they said or thought--I STILL don't care. And you know what? Over a year later, my family got over it and saw the logic behind why I put my visa first.
It ultimately comes down to you and your fiance obeying immigration laws or bending to the will of her family. Her family doesn't have to live with the consequences if she gets denied her visa thanks to a ceremony. Her family won't feel the heartbreak if you and her are removed from each other. So if her family really cares about her, they can wait.

We bought my plane ticket last week so I can fly to Calgary and spend Christmas with my husband. 99% of the time I drive to Canada, so I've always used a NEXUS card. It popped in my mind the day after we bought the tickets "Oh #######! I think my passport is expired!"
Sure enough it is, and it expired in March. I know, I know.. shouldn't have procrastinated.
I have to change my name to my married name anyway, so I gather up all my documents, get my cashier's check and head to the County Clerk's Office (our local passport acceptance facility)
I had filled out and printed all the forms on-line, so basically all I had to do was hand over the documents, sign the form in front of the Clerk, pay the lady and be on my merry way.
Ms. Busybody County Clerk was reading over my forms. "You're husband ISN'T a US Citizen?" in a really snotty voice, (keep in mind where I live, illegal aliens are abundant). "No, ma'am we have filled for his CR-1 Visa so he can get a GC" She looks at me funny, then says under her voice "He's probably Mexican" I guess she thought I was deaf, or stupid, or didn't care.
"EXCUSE ME?! One, my husband is Canadian, two you are NOT Customs and Immigration, we are doing things the legal way, I just want my passport renewed please, thank you."
So she's looking over my birth certificate, which I made sure was the 'long form' and she says "I've never seen one like this before, where were you born?" "The state of Maryland, it says so on top of the Birth Certificate." By this time I was pretty annoyed at the lady.
Then she says, "Oh how did you end up in Tennessee?" The only reply I gave, "I moved" I guess she was trying to 'suck up' after she knew she made me mad.
Mean while the girl at the other desk looked like a deer in the headlights. When Ms. Busybody went to make a copy of my driver's license, girl B. looked at me and said "Oh my God I can't believe what she just said to you" I just shrugged my shoulders.
I worried for five days if Ms. Busybody sent my stuff off to Atlanta like she was supposed to. I got the email today, my passport is in production. Yay!
But the more I think about it, the more p*ssed off I get. I love this little town, I love the schools, I love the Great Smokey Mountains are my back yard. But I can do with out the backwoods rednecks preaching about immigrants, legal or not. I've had more than one rude, snide comment made to me about the fact I'm married to a foreigner and American's were not 'good enough'.

Everything I've seen so far indicates that if you leave the United States, you will have major problems getting back in. Even the US territories can get a little hairy. So best plan your honeymoon around that issue. A cruise will likely complicate matters. Maybe you and your bride-to-be can vacation somewhere in the US? Like another poster said, it's a big country with a lot to see. And there's nothing stopping you guys from taking a few days with a simple honeymoon inside the US then saving up money for after she gets AP or her green card and doing the cruise then.

Piefre reacted to JimVaPhuong in I need the expedite process
You won't get a decision on an expedite request by October 5th. In fact, even if the request is sent overnight express it's unlikely anyone at USCIS will even look at it before October 5th. Expedite requests usually take a week or two before you get a decision. If it's approved then the petition will be adjudicated within another couple of weeks. After that, you've still got NVC and consulate processing, which will take a couple of months. So, assuming your expedite request were approved, you might get to the US around the end of the year. Depending on where you live, you might need to get a green card before you'll be able to get a license to drive a car. That will take about 4 months.
If you think you've got serious humanitarian grounds that would justify an expedite then you might be able to get a B2 visa approved on the same basis. This would allow you to come and stay with your fiance for a few months while you're waiting for the K1 visa process. The B2 visa application process usually only takes a matter of days.
I hope the biopsy turns out negative.

    Wow.
This thread has turned hateful, immature, and embarrassing.
I hope none of you have to wait 10 months only to have someone waiting 4/5 rub it in your face.
Treat others the way you want to be treated.
Attitudes like this get you nowhere in life.
I wish everyone the best of luck on their journeys, but this is a place that should be used to support each other. Not to taunt each other, throw subtle jabs at each other, undermine someone else's journey, etc.

; I hope to God they work on the BackLogs.. I am an October filer and got approved over 7 months.. Some of my friends are still waiting!!
March filers STOP WHINING!!! IF YOU ARE OVER 5 MONTHS, THEN YOU CAN START WHINING AND DO THE NECCESSARY STEPS IN ORDER TO RECEIVE YOUR NOA2 (service request, etc).
So, just wait til 5 month mark (normal progressing time) and be for real!!
Gosh, people are getting soooo greedy, the more they get, the more they want. Same as looking at CSC... weeeeh people are getting approved so fast and VSC should approve us too.. I'm just saying, wait out your time, and if your NOA2 is coming sooner than 5 month mark, GREAT, but it's not something you know it'll happen. You never know where you are in K1.
    K1 IS NOT A RIGHT, IT'S A PRIVILEGE!!!!!!!

Lets all take a deep breath here everyone.
I think Moneyfers situation and meaning to their original post and posts since then have been largely misinterpreted. Lets all please realize this it's stressful for all of us, we are all equals and emotions do run high. I don't see the need to run after each other with pitchforks throwing stones. All they said from the start was basically "walk a mile in my shoes and be grateful you aren't me" And personally I don't blame them or anyone wanting to be handled first considering circumstances like those or even yours Stuart and Thea. I don't believe there is any I am better than you going on it's just stress, frustration and agony coming out and very little opportunity in text to explain ones self better. I don't think there was ill will intended at all. But when people are going through this we can take offense and read into things that aren't there.
For the record I think what you have had to endure Stuart and Thea is terrible too and I am very sorry to hear it but I am also so happy to see that even with the bump in the K-1 road you still managed to get your NOA2 in just shy of 6 months. That's fantastic considering what happened to you and if you were in Vermont I fear the outcome would still be pending sadly Regardless of all that congrats on your NOA2!
In the end we need to handle each other more gently. Take a minute to really think about what we all are and have gone through. No one on here thinks they are better than the other but they may feel cheated by the system and rightly so. I know I would if I was Moneyfer or Stuart and Thea.
PS. please dont chase me with a pitchfork and throw stones at me I bruise easy

WHat I know is this....NO ONE KNOWS how they will feel or react waiting for 10 months. And saying things to further the upset feeling in this post is ridiculous. Because we all see things different. I am a more sympathetic person and always thinking myself in someone elses shoes. We are all here for support of each other....and FACT is our hearts and support should go out to Monyfer, charlize56, dumb/Dumber....I waited 7 months and i can imagine that waiting 10 months+ would make my heart ache. Please stop attacking her. SHe is a nice person. SHe has worked her #### off to get a answer. I would hate for anyone to go through that long wait and i hope others dont have too.....

Hey guys. Just an update on my RFE situation. The RFE was acknowledged by VSC on May 16th, so you can probably add that to our Decemberite timeline, DizzyLox. We're in RFE Response Review limbo now. It's kind of frustrating to have to wait what could be an additional month or more before VSC looks at our RFE. Oh well, I'm trying to be patient and give them the 60 days they say it'll take.
