  1. Hi all,

I had my interview today. It was somewhat of an oniric, confusing experience. It took place in an old warehouse building: stained carpet, holes in the wall, assorted array of seats (from plastic, to cushioned, to painfully wooden). I was called in 30 minutes after my appointment. The interview itself lasted no more than 3 minutes. The interviewer went over my N400 as a way of pressured speech, and I answered very rapidly as well. The test was administered the same way.

At the end, she recommended my case for approval to her superior who sat quite literally in the next cubicle, and who reviewed it one last time for approximately 10 minutes. He then stood up, gave me my Oath letter and shook my hand.

Oath will be on March 25th.

It's been a good day indeed.

    – Rocky Raccoon.

Congratulations! What a long wait for the oath ceremony though. They seem to have made you wait a long time for every step.

  2. Hi there! With my online banking the cashed check (or cheque, for you and me) showed Boston's office in the name/information field, and although I can't offhand remember the exact address, the envelope I received with all the documents in had the specific passport office address in Boston printed on it.

I don't know whether Boston is different to many in that all my documents (book, card and naturalisation certificate) were in the same envelope, or if it was just random, but I suspect it's simply what they do; I looked in the 2015 thread and I noticed somebody else using the Boston office also had everything back on the same day. That doesn't mean they got everything in one envelope, I suppose, but it's a fair bet. In any case, they're really on the ball at that office, it seems, especially at this time of year. Makes a nice change from the immigration speed!

I sent a money order so I've no idea where it was cashed.

I applied for my passport at the USPS on December 31st and it was trackable on January 6th. Since then nothing has changed. Tomorrow will be 3 weeks from when I applied. So it's not exactly been a speedy service for me. I'm hoping to get notification that my passport is on it's way this week but I'm not holding my breath. Every step in my immigration journey went smoothly and was relatively quick so I suppose I was due something taking longer than everyone else.

  3. Well, it's the date range officially stated, but many, many people get their documents (all of them) well before that. Probably 2-3 weeks? Although I sent mine on Jan 7th, Boston received my application on the 13th and I have everything back today (16th). Non-expedited, etc.

The time of year also plays a large part, of course, and since we're post Christmas I wouldn't think there's too many people wanting passports/renewals in comparison.

I'm curious to know if you know for a fact your application went to the Boston passport office and if so how do you know? I assumed that postal ones go to the national passport office in Portsmouth NH but I could be wrong. I usually am!

  4. I put all my children down. That's what it asked for. The interviewer read their citizenship and their ages and then went on to the next part of the form. He didn't say "OMG you named adults on your form. You can't possibly be American now!" If you miss out some of your children in an N-400 form that you have previously mentioned in other official government forms they may wonder why. There are too many people on here overthinking all this. Just answer the questions honestly and don't worry about stupid legal definitions and you'll be fine.

  5. I would leave the parts that are N/A blank.

Your list seems complete. I didn't send a G-1145 with mine. I received the receipt in about 4 days. I just attached the correct postage stamps to my envelope and put it in a mail box. There was no original certificates or anything in it so I thought it would be no big deal if it went missing in the post. If you want to send it a more secure way that's entirely up to you.

  6. I booked a return flight to save money when I came here. I arrived in Feb and booked the return for July. I thought I might be able to use it but I ended up not using it. I didn't bother canceling it but I came on a CR-1 so it didn't matter.

  7. My 4 years old son was born in United Kingdom , he was born while I was Permanent Resident. Now I sponsored his mom k1 who is also my fiancee and K2 and both were granted visa and will come live with me.

    Here my confusion:

    1. Is my son a US citizen ?. .

    2. Should I file N-600 for citizenship or green card for him?

    Additional informations

    - I put his name during my citizenship process.

-His birth certificate has my name.

    please help.

If you are a citizen and your child is under 18 you can file an N-600 for them.

  8. Ha, the first comment my wife made when we got in the car, she can no longer travel, was deeply concerned about the health of her mother. So applying for a US passort was done the same day.

I took my oath 2 days ago and this is the only downside that for a few weeks until my passport arrives I am a prisoner here. It's a very big and luxurious prison but I am not free to leave it at this time.

  9. Congrats on your big day today!

    Thank you!

    Scotinmass' timeline reddened! Congrats :)

    Thanks. It feels great!

I have finally been scheduled for an interview– exactly 3 months after having been placed in line for one and one day after a 30 minute telephone inquiry with USCIS.

It feels great to move forward.

That's great. I'm so pleased for you. I had my oath ceremony today in Faneuil Hall. It was a wonderful experience. I hope yours comes round quickly.

  10. As of today (12.08.15), I am officially an American citizen. At the Oath Ceremony, there were 104 people including myself that have been naturalized; 35 countries were represented. The check-in process was a tad-bit tedious; I guess because I was anxious. I was called up to the podium by the Immigration Supervisor to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. I was flabbergasted and nervous at the same time; I would say that moment was the highlight of the ceremony for me.

I would like to take this time out to wish my fellow VJers all the best on this naturalization journey and congratulations to the ones who have completed this journey. My journey has ended on a fantastic note. I will be applying for my passport this week because I have a trip next month.

    Kind Regards,

    Alex W

    Congratulations!

  11. I had my interview in Boston today. I was called in at my interview time. The interviewer was a very nice very jolly Asian man. He had a very thick accent but I was able to understand him. I said the oath then he asked me the civics question. They were

Who wrote the declaration of independence?

Name one state that borders Mexico.

What is the party of the president?

Name 3 of the original colonies.

Who is the commander in chief?

Name the 2 main political parties

I had to read Who elects congress? And write the answer The people elect congress.

He went over my application and then stamped it approved.

He then surprised me by telling me he was going to get someone to check my application and give it the final approval so they could give me my oath ceremony letter. He said there wasn't time to post it out because it was next week. I was expecting to have to wait another few weeks so it was a pleasant surprise.

My oath ceremony is on December 17th. Could someone please update my info. Thank you.
