  1. Hi. New on this thread. My fiance had his interview today and was approved pending the long form birth certificate. He had the birth certificate at home and was ready to send it this afternoon. He called SMS and they said they would pick it up on Monday pending payment over the phone. They said someone would call to get the payment in the next hour, but no one did. He called back and they said that they didn't have him in the system yet and that they couldn't do anything until he was there. They said someone would call back but it might be some time tomorrow morning. Very frustrating since I don't really understand the delay in payment. Hopefully it'll all get sorted out in the morning. Anyway, just wanted to add my story to the thread. So glad this was here to explain the process a little better!

  2. A,

I have read that you as the primary sponsor do need to fill out the I134, but you also need to provide a letter of explanation of why you did not file taxes. London specific: Please check the "DO intend to make specific contributions" box, this is frequently asked for in London, contrary to the example forms on VJ. Your cosponsor should especially do this.

From the I864 instructions (frequently referenced because consulates sometimes use them as a guide since the I134 doesn't have much guidance attached):

If you were not required to file a Federal income tax return under U.S. tax law because your income was too low, attach a written explanation.

Thanks for the advice! I will do that. I checked the "DO intend to make specific contributions for living expenses" box and said "I intend to provide support for all living expenses." Hopefully that will suffice. I can't wait for this to be over with!

  3. Hi All,

My UK fiance's interview was finally scheduled for July 31st (you can add us to the list!) and needless to say we are getting very nervous. I've been trying not to think about it but am suddenly freaking out that we don't have all the appropriate documentation. I'm a student and thus have negative income. My mother has filled out an I-134 form for us. I've just realized that I should be filling one out too but it will have $0 as my income and very little for my assets. I also didn't file taxes last year since I had no income. I figure I will write a letter explaining my situation, get a letter from my bank, and a letter from the dean of my medical school stating I am a student in good standing. On old VJ posts it sounds like the London embassy isn't too picky about this. Has anyone had recent similar experience?

Thanks for any help you can offer (and please let me know if I should be posting this question elsewhere)!

  4. To the original poster, they won't send you much of a "packet". It'll be a letter telling you to get your information here

    http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/iv/iv_15.html

Notice the forms and info over in the small writing in the right column too. You can be getting all that done without waiting to hear from them if you haven't done so already.

Oddly enough, after posting my question last night Packet 3 arrived today! Thanks to everyone for the advice.

  5. If you have your case number from the NVC (will start LND2009...), you can call the Department of State to check on the status. It is a regular US number, so normal UK to US charges apply -- MUCH cheaper than the Embassy line, and has the same info. Number is 202-663-1225, press 1 then 0 and you will be put through to someone who might be able to help you.

I saw that after I posted (sorry I'm new here  ). Thank you! The NVC stuff was so fast that the packet 3 wait is freaking us out a bit...

  6. Hi,

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place for this question, I've never posted before! Our application left the NVC on April 24 and we have not received a packet 3 yet. Does it usually take this long? I called the NVC and they told me that there is no way to track the application though it seems like others have been able to do that. Is there any way to contact the embassy to ensure that they received the application (other than the extortionately expensive phone number)?

Thanks a lot for any help you can offer and if I should post this elsewhere instead please let me know!
