  1. FEAR ISLAND (2009)

Five students on spring break meet up at a secluded island and discover that they've become prey to a mysterious and vengeful killer. As the body count rises, the remaining members of the group learn their predicament relates to past misdeeds.

    6/10. Decent twist ending.

  2. SaChinKy - You, lass, are exceptionally old. If'n yer out again, past 10 PM, please drop a B-6 tablet...

Wei - where was Mr. SaChinKy for this premiere?

Ai ya, 25 and bones creaking. I will take a look into those tablets you mention.

Mr. Sachinky? Why, he was sitting right next to me at the theater. biggrin.gif That was just a nice way of saying that he too was emotional at the end. His first reaction was a bit "meh" as we were driving back home (he felt that it wasn't true to the comic books enough) but after sleeping on it, he has decided that it is a fantastic wrap-up to the trilogy. Me, not having been brought up on a diet of superheroes thought it was rather brilliant. The first half was a little slow, I guess it took time to build up. The last half was INTENSE. Great score, epic action scenes and terrific acting by Fox, Bale, Hardy, Oldman and of course, Mr. Michael Caine. star_smile.gif

  3. The Dark Knight Rises. Depressing, dark, and relentless. Full of despair and then, ultimately, hope. Classic tale of good vs evil! I loved it. kicking.gifkicking.gif

Am I too old for midnight premieres? Gosh, I am exhausted. I was tired even before the movie started. Still, The Dark Knight Rises, that was swell. The guy sitting to me and I were both wiping away tears at the end.

  4. I thought Knocked Up was rather over-rated.

I watched Basic starring John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson last night. Decent enough flick till the convoluted end. Mr. Sachinky had to pause and explain the entire thing to me.helpsmilie.gif

  5. Illogical, you say? Just like when he woke up one morning and decided that gays should be allowed to get married when just a few short years ago he claimed that marriage was between a man and a woman? I guess I am just surprised that people seem to lapping this stuff up. My FB feed is full of it.

I am pro-gay-marriage and anti-illegal immigration. My reaction to both his announcements was the same. Political stunt. I am not enraged, just disappointed that somebody of his stature (whom I respect greatly) would resort to such cheap stunts.

  6. So at what point into a presidential term should a president stop acting as president so that his/her actions won't be misconstrued as pandering?

It's not a question of when to stop but rather when to start. I would have had a lot more respect for the actions he took (whether or not I agree with them) if they were taken after he had secured the presidency (riding on those promises). No matter which side of this hot-button topic you are on, it'd be a little naive to think that the timing isn't suspect given that the elections are a mere four months away. Call me a skeptic, if ya will.

  7. this one doesn't play old old movies.. it plays movies that came out 2 or 3 months ago...

Yeah, we have dollar theater too, here in ABQ. Couple of them, actually. Usually plays movies that came out 2-3 months ago. We are gonna go see American Wedding. Tickets are $1.50 before 4p and $2 after 4.

  8. I recently got into the cozy mystery scene. I read the "Gray Whale Inn" mystery series by Karen MacInerney and found it charming. It's not Nobel Prize winning literature but good enough for a quick breezy read on a weekend. The first book, I believe, is free on Amazon. The other three I got off my public library via Kindle.

    The books in order are:

    Murder on the Rocks

    Dead and Berried

    Murder Most Maine

    Berried to the Hilt

I also finished Carbs & Cadavers by J. B. Stanley last night. Didn't really enjoy that too much.

I am also loving Carl Hiaasen's YA stuff. I read Hoot, Scat and Flush in quick succession. Now waiting for Chomp.
