Flames9_RN got a reaction from Glyn and Kathy in Pros and Cons of getting US Citizenship as a Canadian
I consider myself to be the proudest of the proud Cdn Citizens......Cdn Tattoos, nearly 15 yrs in the Cdn Military, wore Cdn socks to my Naturalization ceremony (respectfully hidden) Having American Citizenship, does not make me any less Canadian. And America is a Great country, with a lot of great people. I'm around Americans everyday, they know I'm Cdn as I don't hide that. There ca be some draw backs, but when one starts to investigate the + outweigh what some would say are -'s Each their own! My wife is a very proud American, I love her to death, so it can't be that bad,lol Plus like someone stated above, it is important to be able to vote and cast your say in elections--If you don't vote, you can't complain!! And many Allied Soldiers, workers, civilians have died so we can enjoy these freedoms.

Probably more along the lines they have to deal with people lying, and hearing their excuses, and by chance, you get that POE officer having a bad day! And we all have bad days. I'm always surprised how so many people on this forum cut them down, it may seem they have a very easy job, just sitting at a desk, but in that very short interaction period, they have to make a decision if your telling the truth or lying. I would hate to be the POE officer that let in a known terrorist that caused a great deal of pain to families.

What a great Olympics for Canada--Taking Gold in the 2 sports that matter--curling and hockey!!
I wasn't sure our women team would prevail as the Americans had been beating them leading up to the Olympics.......and then be down by 2 in the closing minutes and fight back to tie it!!
Then men had been totally dominant the past 2 games!! Always seemed top be a swarm of Canucks on the puck!!
Another great day to be Canadian!!

For many the K3 makes no sense as it can take just as long as the CR-1, and then 1 is NOT able to work right away, more $$ as 1 has to AOS. With the CR-1, one can get Cdn Ei right away as well (if u qualify on it)

Personal decision. More advantages than disadvantages! As others have mentioned, even though you renounce your other citizenship at the oath ceremony it means nothing. I see no reason why to keep giving the USA gov't more $$$ every 10 yrs and the prices for the green card and naturalization just keep going up and up. I'm happy to be a USA citizen and will always be a law abiding citizen, and grateful I am able to live in a free country (many here in Nicaragua would love to have that opportunity) But I will always be Canadian and if any one asks me--I reply Canadian--simple as that.

That will get everything and I mean everything, Mine was a few inches thick! But not sure if its any good for immigration! I don't have the pkg with me here in Nicaragua, so can't look at it. There may be an old UER in there that may work--just get it notarized!!

Flames9_RN got a reaction from canada_socks in When to sever residential ties to Canada?
Never filled out the NR73 as it is 1 of those forms you "can" fill out, but it is not a "must" Everyone has their own opinion on that. Dude I talked to at Canada Revenue told me that. I departed Canada in Dec 2004. So in the Spring of 2005 when I was doing my Cdn taxes, it asks right on the 1st page of the tax forms when you became or ceased to be a Cdn Resident--I plopped down Dec 17 2004. Simple as that! And for fun I applied for the GST rebate--even though I made to much $$. I got a letter from Revenue Canada stating because I was no longer a resident of Canada, I was no longer able to claim the GST rebate.

They will let him in. Just remember no big bags or electronics of any kind (including keys, cell phones) and the elevator opens from the rear, lol! What works great is 1 of those accordion style plastic binders that have many compartments. And it can be continued to be used to save documents, when it comes time to apply for the 10 yr greencard. And keep track of the dates that you leave the USA, in the future when ur filling out more forms, they ask, and you will have them handy

I would email MTL--with case # in subj line----and if u get no response--attend the assigned interview and THEN 2 options. Ask the interviewer if they can give u the visa then, or next day because of ur vacation(bring proof) yes this has worked for a few, but not something u should count on. other option is keep the passport and on completion of the trip, you mail it back to mtl. keep in mind they can be slow at returning the passport pkg. but less stress!!!

Nope, you can't work--you need the EAD----thus why many go the CR-1 route, yes it takes longer, bu tone is able to work right away---not the case with the K1
