Flames9_RN got a reaction from NikLR in My K1 visa has been approved can I still visit the USA before I want to use it?
Again----it all depends on the POE officer....During the almost 10 yrs I have been on VJ...there have been others that have called ahead to the Port of Entry station....have 1 officer tell them something...and once they arrive..something else totally take place...I'm sure u will have success..but one should always be prepared in case things do not go the way you want them to.

Many do cross with no issues....but a few do have issues and some get denied entry.....All depends on the knowledge of the POE officer......Seems to me a year or so back here on VJ had a similar problem going from Victoria to Seattle on the Clipper......she/he was able to still gain access. The Poe officer does not have to look at ur evidence, always good to have it.
I lived in Victoria for nearly 10 yrs..not while going through the immigration process mind you. Next time I would go via a land crossing.

Many don't.....if one is going to do a lot of traveling...depending on where you are going, it could then be beneficial to get a Cdn Passport..ie Cuba...

Actually u can carry zillions of cash across the border---u just have to declare it. If its a small amount of $$$, just leave it in ur Cdn account and then use ones debit card to take it out in the USA.......When its larger amounts of $$$, one should do their homework. Some banks will cash ur Cdn cheque (if you can find a competent bank teller, lol) some wont charge any fees, but give a sub-par exchange rate. Others may charge a fee, but give a superior exchange rate, which could actually be better. This has been discussed many times, so a search should come up with a fair number of hits! At one time CustomHouse--out of Victoria was awesome! But then they got bought out by Western Union, and the rates were no longer that great. Havent checked them in a long time, so not sure if their rates have stayed crappy. Best of luck

Nope..Consulate will not care! I was able to get EI as a Military guy....which can be hard to do as well, as we have a contract...I initially got denied..but appealed and won......But I think (don't know for certain) one can't quit too far in advance. If one does, then they could deny ones claim...and you could appeal. Now and then, one has to do what is best for you. Yes AP does not hapen to many Cdns, but it does happen. Especially if you were born in one of the countries that isnt on good terms with the USA. And have seen it with people that have certain education degrees--ones dealing with chemicals. All the best

Flames9_RN got a reaction from Kathryn41 in IN A RUSH - does anyone know California requirements for bringing a cat from Canada??
As a seasoned traveler with animals in cabin and underneath.....highly recommend u do not drug them in any manner. Simple reason being, if they find out they have been drugged in any manner, they can refuse your pet entry onto the plane. Yes the chances are extremely slim they will even check the cat--they have never even looked at our cats that have flown in-cabin. As well animals can act differently to drugs airborne than they do on the ground.
The Rules also apply to animals in cabin---not just in cargo.....Just that the rules between Canada/USA tend not to be followed. Only shot they seem to care about is Rabies and often don't even look for that.

I'm not going to day much as there are many posts on this (search) if ur bringing(transferring) over a large sum of $$$, best to take ur time and research the best route.....Just because a bank states there is NO fees, does not mean thats the best avenue to take....One has to look at the whole picture (exchange rate, etc)

Personal decision. More advantages than disadvantages! As others have mentioned, even though you renounce your other citizenship at the oath ceremony it means nothing. I see no reason why to keep giving the USA gov't more $$$ every 10 yrs and the prices for the green card and naturalization just keep going up and up. I'm happy to be a USA citizen and will always be a law abiding citizen, and grateful I am able to live in a free country (many here in Nicaragua would love to have that opportunity) But I will always be Canadian and if any one asks me--I reply Canadian--simple as that.

Flames9_RN got a reaction from NikLR in recheduling CR-1 interview
1 reason why some feel it necessary to change---the Spouse can't be at the interview. Maybe nice for sentimental reasons, and support, but thats about it~ Canada is not a high fraud country, so the spouse is not expected to be at the interview. Mine wasn't--they did ask, and I said she was at work. The interview--if you have all your paperwork in order, is normally the easiest part of the whole process. Majority of the time spent at the consulate, is waiting. The people that do run into some issues are ones that don't have all thier paperwork (some make a post here on VJ, and list what they are bringing--so people can double check it) and others that were born or lived in a country that is not on good terms with the USA. And some that have high tech degrees that deal with chemicals, lol Best of luck

if you are moving to Arlington VA and going to rent an Apartment--check out Barton house apartments! Awesome apartments, underground parking, close to the metro and the people that work there are awesome! Usually a waiting list to get in as it is so great and much cheaper than other apartments in the area. http://bartonhouse.com/ Doesn't have in-suite laundry--but only 25 cents to wash and dry (according to a friend that still lives there) If I were you--I would get on to the waiting list--and check back fairly often! Thats how we got in--just kept checking back!! like a 5 min walk to Metro and close to many shops/restaurants
