Quite often when 1 is on visits--it is more just fun, as its usually for such a short duration. I will put it very simple-RUN RUN RUN while you can!! I think you know the reasons why! Love can blind you at time--and not in a good way! Communication is a HUGE thing in a strong relationship--and it appears he doesn't want any of that---only going to get worse once he is actually in the USA!!! Good luck. Easy decision for us to make, not so easy for you, but doing the right thing is not always easy!!

where were u on dec 31 of 2018??  Living in Canada or the USA?  If its Canada, you should just be filing as per normal as you were a Cdn resident the whole year........then for 2019, you would do your Exit return for Canadian taxes....Im a RN, not an accountant though, lol   You could ask on Serbinksi tax forums  https://forums.serbinski.com/viewforum.php?f=2

There used to be a part on the front of the Cdn tax forms that asked when you ceased to be a Cdn resident....I put the day down that I crossed the border into the USA on my CR-1 visa....but that was in 2004......

Welcome to VJ! Believe me, Tim Hortons has been covered to death on the Cdn forum, lol I'm one of its biggest supporters! RI has them, but I actually dont care for the TImmys in the USA, just doesn't taste the same to me, probably a different cream. Merry xmas and welcome to VJ

Nice write up!  Hopefully more time on next visit to enjoy some Poutine!!  Was so much easier when i went thru this process as they had more Dr doing the physicals, almost 1 in each province.

If it were I..I would say visiting my son who is a brand new father and seeing my new grandchild......nothing wrong with that.  I dont believe by the books a Cdn needs a return ticket, but it sure does look better and builds a stronger case that 1 is returning.  In her favor, I'm sure POE officers are used to older Cdns heading to the USA as many spend the winters in the warmer climates

Just wanted to let you all know that USCIS emailed me confirmation that they received my form and green card. The emailed had an attachment which was my form signed by an officer. So that’s all taken care of!

As for the Tim Hortons conversation, 😄, I agree that there’s nothing like the real deal. Their products are good, but just don’t compare.

Hemisphere, so not so pretty on the eyes at times......We loved the beaches...hours drive from Managua.....miles of beaches and would be just us and our 2 dogs......1 which we brought back with us...Sure CR was prettier, but more $$$$,lol  Don't miss the hot weather though.

Interesting topic. I found this link that goes through and explains the information you are looking for: https://www.lexology.com/library/detail.aspx?g=ac6782c8-29fb-48ed-9999-5e6b0f707ebe

It appears as though a person could live in Canada and commute to the US for a job. There is a special process in which it has to be done. Good luck.

worse case condition...u find a certified translator in Montreal and dash back.....burn a few more calories and enjoy that poutine!!  When we resided in Ecuador they had a Poutine place.....owners were from Quebec I believe.  It was ok, but not as good as Mtl.

if you do a search here on VJ, u get mixed results, some needed it translated, some did not.....the most important thing is that the birth cert is the long form birth cert......But I believe the official answer is all documents are to be translated into English as the only official language of the USA is English.

Thats what I used to do..use my Cdn when I entered Canada and when you return to the USA you have to use the USA passport!  But you can just use the USA passport to enter Canada, they will know ur a Cdn citizen by it stating ur place of birth and ur good looks, lol

https://www.uscis.gov/system/files_force/files/form/n-400instr.pdf  part 9, page 8 of 18 gives instructions on having to report dates when ur out of the USA for 24 hrs or more, but that doesnt really say if it affects the date you can file for naturalization.  I spend a few weeks each yr back in Canada on holidays, but based my submission on my POE date as well.....I'm sure if one submits to early, they will let you know, lol

make sure u check out UPS....rates must have changed .....and of course depends on size/weight..location.....1 issue I had with UPS was filling out the customs forms....not super clear how u do it online......now i days I rarely mail stuff back....waste too much in shipping charges.....rather just send my sisters $$$ to buy the nephews gifts.

u haul now has a new service (at least in the USA)  U rent their truck and then goto the site and find moving labor!!  Thats what we recently did when we did a local move....We packed....rented from Uhaul and then went to https://www.uhaul.com/MovingHelp/   and  picked out the company....there are reviews and prices do differ...worked out very well.

I drove from Greenwood NS to DC (Dec 2004) did it in 2 days.  Wife was suppose to fly up and then we drive down together, but she got sick just prior to it.  I like to drive, so not a huge deal.   Make sure u check out the truck before u accept it.

Back in 2004 used Uhaul and it went fine.  1 thing to remember with Uhaul and I found this out a few yrs back when I moved my dad from Saskatoon to Kamloops....on the day of picking up ur vehicle, it may not be at the location you want to pick it up at!  We had to drive to Melfort (1.5 hrs away) to pick up our truck, lol   The lady at the Melfort Uhaul location says it happens a fair bit and yep, people are ticked off!!  If your in a bigger city, prob not an issue!.  They actually gave us a nice discount, so actually worked into our favor!! If you dont have a lot of stuff, then canada post.  I sold/gave away a lot..great time to lighten ones possessions!

I would def have some strong ties that your going back to Canada.... I did get married on a visit to the USA, but it was just a very small 1 and I didnt make it known to the USA immigration officer....he didnt ask, and I didnt volunteer the info.   As a cdn we often get benefit of being a canuck and often are not hassled crossing the border, but people do get denied entry, thus the onus is on you to provide proof that you are returning...job from employer.....have a good understanding of the Visa your going for....guessing a Cr-1..telling the border dude ur getting married to start the CR-1 paperwork...Good luck
