My husband is from Tunisia and we were able to do all of our immigration paperwork ourselves. A lawyer is not required but may help in complex cases or to ease your mind

Consulates want to ensure that mariages are real but also that you have the means to support your man once he gets to the US. If you like what you do and are getting a promotion that allows you to not have a co-sponsor, that alleviates the financial issues surrounding immigration. Who knows, you may be able to negotiate a longer break if you work hard now. Maybe your boss would go for 10 days or 2 weeks if you work through the summer. I wish you good luck with your decisions

How long would this demotion last? Would you get demoted if you just went for a week? Could you talk to your supervisor and perhaps work something out? I don't like the idea of a co-sponsor, personally so I would avoid that if I were you. I would try to go for even a short visit. Perhaps wait until later on after you've submitted the I864 like Pushbrk suggested.
I got married my first visit. I had just started my job less than a year before getting married. I spoke with my office manager and worked something out so that I could go back for a visit. I visited for two weeks about 6 months after getting married.

Ok I would be pissed if someone deceived me like that even if I did establish a friendship with them. I certainly wouldn't fly over to meet someone who did that to me.

I don't have a Moroccan husband but I have gone through the whole going overseas to meet and marry and then immigration so here's what I think - take things slow. Don't get ahead of yourself with the attorneys and whatnot. Go to Morocco, meet your intended, meet his family, experience his life for a short while then decide if you still want to be engaged to and someday marry this man. If you come back to the states having had an amazing experience and are definitely wanting to spend your life with this man then read the guides on this site and start the paperwork. Taking your time and going back to Morocco maybe one more time before filing will help your case. This is an exciting and sometimes overwhelming experience. Good luck!

we did not have an engagement party for two reasons:
1. we were in Paris, my family was in the US and his was in Tunisia. It was too complicated to deal with all of that.
2. we were poor and wanted to save money for moving to Tunisia and for the visa.
When we got married in Tunisia a few months later, I didn't allow his family to have a big party because I knew it would bankrupt them. They were not happy about it, but I knew that it was the right decision since I could not afford to have a party as well as do the visa paperwork. To this day, Anis's mom still wants us to have a party in Tunisia. Sigh.

Just for sharing's sake, I have heard of a single case in which the petitioner was granted access to the interview area. If I recall correctly, it was a very special circumstance, and the couple had already been denied once. During the second attempt's interview, the CO asked why the petitioner wasn't there with the applicant, and he responded that she was, in fact, right across the street waiting for him at the cafe. The petitioner was then summoned to enter the interview. From the description, it sounded as though the CO was skeptical that the applicant was telling the truth and made an exception expecting to catch him in a lie. But in the end, the petitioner was able to answer several questions and (from her story) turn the case around. Their visa was granted. I tell this story because if you feel like spending the time to find it in the consulate reviews section, you can verify for yourself, and also to say that even if the rule is not to let petitioners in it's always a good idea to be there as a show of support and as evidence of a legit relationship. I've even heard of the consulate sending representatives to the hotel where the petitioner was supposed to be staying to verify her presence in the country (in other cases). Although it's not the norm, you never can tell in a high fraud country like Morocco... I'd go for the interview if I were in your shoes. Good luck!

Out of the three countries, Tunisia's (Tunis, not Djerba) dialect is closest to FusHa. Algerian arabic is really a creole as it is heavily mixed with a French lexicon and Turkish borrowed words. My husband cannot understand Moroccans, so I have to translate for him. He says they speak quickly (which they do, but so do Tunisians) I don't know if its a realy quantifiable difference or a perceived difference linked to identity. Ok more coffee..

Once I cam to the U.S, I have little issues here and there with my wife. It all was because of the different ways we manage and run our daily life but through understanding these differences we learned from each other we do really really good.
I understand your situation is different. But hey, the most precious to any human being is pride, if lost , nothing left.
According to what you said, seems you are a good man and doing your best. God will bless you for that regardless with your current wife or anyone else.

She drops you off and started having an issue with that---------------------you have a job, try to get a car, If you did not establish a credit yot, go for credit unions banks and you will get a loan for a car, does not need to be a new one, but a one that will do.
Her name is in the apartment contract, you are not a joint as you said-------- search for an apartment for you, and move (hard to do, but please try for your sake)
Her name is on most of the bills (make her pay it), if she used the word (you are the husband da da da), tell her (in America we are equal, we r the same). if she refused to pay it, it will hurt her, not you.
Starting now, do all what it takes to get more proves of the good faith of that marriage (any current or earlier joint accounts, insurance, any joint bills etc etc etc)
Also, if you can have a prove of her abuse that would be a very good thing ( if she bit you, call the police. if she insults you record for her. record your calls with her parents as a prove of trying to work the relation with their daughter.
Remind her she is finanicaly responsible for you through the affidavit she signed (im telling you not to use it, but to get her to understand she can not bring you, and then decide to kick you or hurt you whenever she wants... she needs to understand she is responsible for the human she brought from abroad as much as you are responsible for her, this is what is marriage is after all)
If she found that you are solid enough to take care of your self without her and that your pride is No. 1. It will be her call either to work it out with you, or continue and you will leave and she wont feel strange about it after all what you are trying to do for you both.

My husband is 5 yrs younger than myself. We've been married 6 years. On May 2 he'll have been in the U.S. for 5 years. I guess we are successful in that we've been married this long without killing each other.
Our stats to get an idea of what we're working with:
Me - second marriage, two kids from previous, no set religion, middle class background. I'm 37 yrs old.
Him - first marriage, no kids from previous, non practicing Muslim, middle class background. He's 32 years old.
We have one child together.

I've read through the entire post and I am so sorry for your douche-band (douchebag husband). I know right now you feel like any decision you make will rip you apart, but if you had stayed in this relationship, that feeling would have swallowed you whole one day.
