  1. Good advice! Does the Boston Passport Office offer passport pick-up (some of the passport agencies do), and if so, can the Naturalisation Certificate be picked up at the same time? Might be something to look into.

Based on some research I've been doing on the side, it would appear that the Miami Passport Agency is one of those that strictly enforces the travel within two weeks requirement. They do, however, offer the option for passport pick-up and same-day passports when need is satisfactorily demonstrated.

I noticed other people there today were told they could pick it up later today (obviously an emergency) and some people were told they could pick up Monday (not as urgent). So it seems the option is there, and I think if you have a real need, they can accommodate. Not sure being nervous about having your naturalization certificate mailed would count though. But it probably wouldn't hurt to ask!
  2. A quick note on passports. Apparently not all passport agencies that have the travel within two weeks rule enforce it. I went to the Boston passport agency even though technically I'm not traveling for another 3 weeks and they let me apply no questions asked. Should get it next Wednesday (paid for overnight delivery). It definite felt better to hand over my naturalization certificate right there at the counter versus having to think about it getting mailed off somewhere if applying at the post office. Took pictures, color copies, and scanned it before hand of course!

  3. Updating the list for the last time!

  4. I became a US citizen yesterday!!! Thank you all for keeping me company during the wait. My visa journey is finally over.

    DONE WITH USCIS FOREVER!!!

Here is my oath ceremony experience:

Oath letter said to report at 10am at mechanics hall in Worchester MA. Keep in mind if you are going to a larger venue such as this one, the check-in time is staggered. Try to find out from the venue's website for the actual start time of the ceremony if you have guests coming and don't want to make them wait too long. The actual ceremony in my case wasn't scheduled until noon so in-laws didn't get there until 11:30.

I got there at 9:30 and waited outside the building until it was my turn to check in, was checked in by the same IO that interviewed me who proceeded to verify my answers on the back of the oath letter. He stamped the front of the letter and wrote down a number corresponding to where I have to sit in the auditorium. Hang on to that oath letter. I sat around waiting for the actual ceremony to start. My husband who came with me had to sit in the balcony (designated for guests) People continued to arrive in waves. Right before it started, they came around and collected everyone's oath letters to be exchanged with the certificate after the ceremony. Ceremony started with a slide show/photo montage: pretty images of Ellis Island and past oath ceremonies. A welcome message from USCIS, instructions on voter registration, then the judge finally arrived. The naturalization oath was administered, followed by the oath of allegiance. The judge called each country that was represented telling us to stand up as he says them, missed a few but the crowd yelled out the rest.Judge said a few words, told us to congratulate each other as new citizens, we sang the national anthem. Judge left, and they closed with the song Proud to be an American. Then the IOs went around and handed out the naturalization certificates and that was it! By the way it is possible i have the order of events during ceremony mixed up because once the judge arrived, the oath taking part itself went by really quickly. I didn't do the passport application after because I had already made an appointment at the passport agency for today.

We all exited after tripple checking to make sure everything was correct on my certificate (and taking a few pictures of course), walked a few blocks to a nice restaurant called the Boynton (named after the architect that designed mechanics hall apparently), ate ourselves silly and went home happy.

    Good luck to everyone else!!

  5. Mine got scheduled for oath 48 days after passing the interview. Or 27 days after being put in oath scheduling queue. This varies greatly from office to office. I think my longer wait is partially due to being in the same queue as the people processing thru Boston office which is really backed up. Even though I went thru Lawrence office, I think the oath queue overlaps. Others have gotten scheduled anywhere between a few days to a month. Some even lucky enough to have same day oath.

  6. Congratulations, engineer21! My wife also got an e-mail today saying that her oath ceremony has been scheduled. You and she will probably have the same ceremony.

Awesome!!! Thanks, and Congrats as well!

I'm thinking it will be July 30th at mechanics hall in Worchester. There is supposed to be 700 people going. But hey, maybe I'll see you guys there! :)

  7. Congrats paciencia y fe on getting interview scheduled and DeanRShortland for passing the interview!!! :)

    Good luck tomorrow ByrdNest!!

I guess all it took for my case to get updated was coming here and whining about it. Today I got the text/email update that my oath is finally scheduled and that the notice was sent!!! Can't wait to find out when/where my visa journey will officially come to an end :)

It took 48 days from passing the interview to getting the oath scheduled.

Now that the end in almost in sight, I feel a little foolish complaining! Crossing my fingers it won't be the last week of August during my overseas trip

  8. Great news, thanks, I didn't sent it. By 5 year rule, do I need to bring marriage certificate and other joint document? I got green card from my husband

No, you don't have to bring marriage/joint docs for 5 year rule. I applied using the 3 year rule and brought all that stuff to my interview and never had to show any if it. Good luck!
  9. Congratulations to all of you that have passed interviews and taking oaths... keep on making this country more awesome!

Still no interview schedule, but received the "famous" yellow letter (first I ever hear of that).

Anyway, my question is: The letter says that all I need to bring to the interview is Driver's License... should I bring any other documents just in case?

I know I might be over-thinking this, but I am wondering what you guys think.

Possible bring Green Card, and Marriage Certificate... not sure.

I brought a bunch of other docs: passports, taxes, bank statements, utility bills, marriage cert, mortgage, driving record... Yellow letter only asked to bring drivers license. At the actual interview I was only asked to show my green card. I would still bring all your supporting docs just in case though!
  10. Congratulations to all of you who passed your interview. I have my interview on Monday morning in Memphis.

Here is a question for you. Did anyone actually NOT disclose traffic citations?

After submitting my N-400 I realized checked "no" for citations received. After reading threads I realize that speeding tickets are classified and need to be accounted for. I have one speeding ticket that was several years ago and I have no way of obtaining the details on that citation and/or resolution. Honestly, cannot even remember what year it was, it was that far back.

I made a DMV request and they only gave me as far back as 3 years. I have 1 traffic citation in the last 3 years for "passing on the right". I have printed this stuff off and am prepared to take it in with me.

Should I even bother disclosing this?

    Thanks for your help.

    Dean

Yup, me! I checked no on the form even though I had two speeding tickets. I called the DMV and was told anything older than 3 years is no longer kept in their records. So at the interview I started to ask if I should have disclosed it and the IO smiled and simply said he didn't want to know about my speeding tickets. That was that. Just be honest and explain. I don't think it will be an issue. Good luck on Monday!!!
  11. My case hit a wall too! Interview was 5/13. Got put in oath queue on 6/3, and hasn't been updated since then. This Friday will be 45 days since my "recommended approval" date, which is how long uscis.gov says to expect to be scheduled for the oath. Grrrrr! I'm going on vacation the last week of August and it's going to be complicated if the oath happens right before or during the trip. Once I take the oath I'll have to rush to get my passport or bye bye vacation! And if my luck is just right it will be scheduled right when I'm supposed to be away. What then? I guess reschedule? Do they put you in the back of the line when you do that? SIGH... I can't wait to be done.

Good luck to all of us!!

  12. I just got an email from USCIS and it says that I've been placed in queue to be scheduled for the oath ceremony!! Hopefully I'll get a letter this week or next week with the date and time! :dancing:

bennobot, did your blue dot on your online case status move after you got this email? Or is it still at Testing/Interview?

    Just curious..

  13. CONGRATS!!! :dancing: It's so funny how my officer told me that traffic tickets are considered citations and that I did the right thing in adding them to the form. Did you have to have your picture and 2 index fingers taken when you got there?

Thanks!! Nope, they didn't take my pic or fingerprint at the interview.

Congrats on getting in line for oath scheduling!!!

    Congrats engineer21 :dancing: :joy: :dancing:

    Congrats Engineer21 your almost there!!!

    Thank you guys!! :)

  14. I just had my interview today and after confirming the trips I disclosed he asked if there are any other trips. In my case no, but for your wife she should just take that opportunity to clarify. She can simply say she was not sure because it's not 24 hour trip. I did this today with other things I wasn't sure needed to be included in the application. It should be fine. Good luck!

  15. Update: Had my interview at the Lawrence, MA office this morning.

After the IO went through the yes/no part of my application I asked if I should have said yes to one the questions and he guessed right away and said: "what is it, do you have speeding tickets? I don't want to know about your speeding tickets," and he smiled as he waved his hand dismissively.

I did bring my driving record that shows the dates of when tickets were issued and (I think) when I paid them, but I never had to pull it out.

He said he is recommending my application for approval. And that was that on the topic of my speeding ticket.

  16. Posted this in the March 2014 thread too but, I know I was looking for specific experience for the Lawrence field office which is hard to come by. So I thought I'd post a separate topic in case it helps someone in the future.

Had my interview at the Lawrence, MA office this morning! It was super quick. Got there about 25 min early for 8:30 appointment. IO called my name around 8:25, swore me in, and asked me to have a seat. He asked to see my green card and passport(s), told me to sign on my two passport photos (the ones I sent originally -- I brought two extras, he never asked for them)

He then handed me a piece of paper with my information (name, phone number etc) and told me to verify that everything is correct, and if correct, to sign on the bottom of the page.

Then he got right into the civics questions:

    1. There are four amendments to the Constitution about who can vote. Describe one of them
    2. During the Cold War, what was the main concern of the United States?
    3. What is one reason colonists came to America?
    4. What is one right or freedom from the First Amendment?
    5. Who is in charge of the executive branch?
    6. If the President can no longer serve, who becomes President?

Then he asked me to read a sentence out loud: "Which state has the most people?"

Then he told me to write down: "California has the most people."

After this he went through my application very quickly just repeating what is in there, I confirmed everything saying yes every time he said is this or that correct?

At the end I asked if I should have said yes to one of the yes/no questions and he guessed right away and said: what is it, do you have speeding tickets? I don't want to know about your speeding tickets and he smiled as he waived his hand dismissively. What a relief! This was the one thing I was worried about

He had me sign the very end part of the N400 application, and he said congrats, I'm recommending your approval. He handed me a piece of paper that says passed test and approval recommended. Then he walked me out of his office, handed me some booklets/welcome info on becoming citizen and told me to have a nice day :)

He also said to expect the oath ceremony info in the mail in a "couple of weeks"

By the way, I also got the yellow letter in the mail saying I should bring my drivers license. IO never asked to see it.

I also brought USC husband's birth certificate, passport, our marriage certificate, our joint tax transcripts, old leases, current mortgage, etc. (as listed on the interview document check list).

IO didn't ask to see any of those either.

I was out and on my way to see my husband (who was waiting for me in the car) by 8:37 am!

So excited to be one step away from being done!!!!
