Just an update. I received my mother's Social Security Card in the mail today. Good thing we didn't make that hectic trip to the SS Office. I wonder if there is a way to find out if the physical GC process has been initiated.

Dear Members,

Having gone through the immigration process, my mother finally got her immigrant visa. Last week I went to bring her back with me. At the immigration counter in NY, I handed the officer the sealed packet and he fingerprinted my mother and stamped the passport. I had already paid the $165 Green Card processing fee. My question is, Do i need to initiate the process for the physical green card? The instructions we received stated that the physical green card won't be processed until my mother arrives in the country. We were not told the process on how and when it will happen. Would anybody care to share their experience.

Thank You for your reply Karachiite. The reason I asked was because her case has just been processed by NVC and sent to Islamabad embassy. Now my concern is that with the interview letter the beneficiary(my mother), probably would receive a package regarding her medical which she is supposed to get done and take to the interview. If she doesn't receive any correspondence due to change in address, it may delay the case unnecessarily.

Hi,

I had sponsored my mother a few months ago and have recently been notified by NVC that they are processing our case and sending it to the Embassy in Islamabad to be scheduled for an interview. I wanted to know if anybody has information on how to place a request for a change of address of the beneficiary(my mother) in Pakistan. Since she resides in a newly developed residential area, the street numbers have been changed and I don't want unnecessary delays in correspondence with the embassy.

For obvious reasons, when then scan your passport, they screen you as well. A muslim Name, Birth place(in my case, NWFP will always wet their pants), point of origin during travel,... and many other will trigger their attitude. Now, the initial screening is done by the Arabs and they have a bias towards everybody else in the world anyway. But then during my experience, there were those that went through even with visa's and GC without issues, and I saw families with kids waiting in the room as if a Jury is about to give a verdict soon.

Ok, I have had an experience with Abu Dhabi pre-clearance as i traveled through Etihad and wasn't aware of the pre-clearance setup. For some reason they treated me like a convict even though I am a US citizen. To answer your question, you book all your luggage for your final destination. All you carry is your hand luggage. You are NOT required to have all your luggage with you during pre-clearance as its not possible during transfers. I will never travel through a country that has similar arrangements. I have rights here in the US and cant be treated the way they treat me in these arab countries. Good Luck.

Hi,

I received a letter from NVC stating that they have received my documents on April 3rd. In the letter they have informed me that it may take upto 60 days to review the documents. How long does is normally take from here? I am hoping that I have sent all relevant documents. I have paid the AOS/IV fee and submitted the online DS-260 as well. My mother resides in Pakistan so interview will be scheduled there, if and when approved.

Hi,

I wanted to know if I can send the AOS documents seperately from the IV documents.

Since I have already paid the AOS fee and have the required documents, I thought i'd submit them as the IV fee is taking its time to become available for payment. Has anybody done this before or should I wait and submit them together.

Also, whats the address that I need to send the documents to. The address on the welcome letter from NVC is slightly different from the one they have posted for documents submission.

Hi,

Yesterday I received the NVC Welcome letter(PAOSF) for my mother. I went online and chose the agent(myself) and paid the AOS fee as Immigrant Visa fee wasn't available at the time for my case. The letter mentioned six steps required to be completed to begin NVC processing but I have some confusion regarding the IV package and the AOS package usually referred to on visajourney. Can I send out both packages separately and if so what documents are required for the AOS package? Due to time constraints I want to break it down in parts as collecting documents is a time consuming task. Also, do both the packages go to the same address? Appreciate your advice and help in advance.

Hi,

Today I received an email/Text that my I-130 petition for my mother has been approved. I should be expecting a Notice in the mail within a few days. What should I be expecting besides that. I know that there are more steps to it before the case gets referred to the embassy in my mothers country of residence and would like some guidance as to what I should be doing now and what kind of documents I should start gathering.

Also, Whats the time frame I am looking at in terms of my mothers visa being stamped since the I-130 approval.

So, how long do I have to wait until I hear from the USCIS regarding an approval or RFE? Is there anything I can do at this stage to expedite the approval?

Shouldn't USCIS ask for more documents to approve the case. At this point they have simply acknowledged my application based on my eligibility and only one document that would prove my mothers relationship to me. They didn't even ask for her documentation other than a BC. I had always thought that the local embassy would take more time to verify an applicants documents rather than the USCIS who at this point only have to verify the petitioner(myself). So, according to your posts, my next step is to wait 4-6 months, till USCIS approves my application and sends me another NOA and then submit other forms and documents as per requirement?

Today I received the I-797C(Notice of action) related to a an I-130 petition filed for my mother. My question is that what do I expect next. Am I supposed to wait and hear from the USCIS or initiate some other form filing? The priority date states July 21st. Also, on an average, how long does it take to obtain a visa for parents under such circumstances? Appreciate your response in advance.

When I was applying for my AOS, I didn't have my birth Certificate. I attached a letter explaining that most of South Asia back in the days had a poor track record when it came to maintaining Birth Records. I sailed through my immigration without any issue. I am doing the same for my mother now as I am sponsoring her. Her I-130 got approved without the BC with a letter of explanation.

Thank you. One quick question. My country of origin was not too efficient in Birth Certificate records back in the days, but there was a family registration process where a document was issued by the Government stating the names and birth dates of the family on one form for the family. That was what I had used for during my AOS/citizenship process. Do you think I should supply the same for my siblings as well?

Hi All,

Been a while since I posted on VJ. Having completed my journey, I have initiated the task of applying for my siblings now and am in the process of collecting info/documents. I know info is readily available on USCIS website as well as on various threads on VJ, I just want to compile my own threads for future reference.

I have the following questions if senior/experienced members would care to answer them.

1. What is the current fee for I-130?

2. Do I need to have notarized documents or copies are acceptable?

3. For married siblings, do I need to have copies of their spouses/ children Birth certificates attached to the I-130 or simply the info is required at this stage?

Friends! I am a US Citizen! However, It was one of the most mismanaged ceremony I have experienced and I been to quite a few. The worse experience Ever. We were told to be there 8:30am prompt and they were still seating applicants until 10:30am. Woke up at 5:00am and reached the

Brooklyn courthouse at 7:15am. They took our cells and that was the end of my connection with the world. Was seated by 7:30am and without any breakfast or even a sip of water. First each and every applicant was called in to sign the Naturalization certificates. Then they called in the names of those who had a name change. Apparently they needed some form for the SS office. Then came the lady for Voter Registration. By 12:15 the Judge showed up for 5 minutes. Thank God, her speech and oath lasted 5 minutes. Then came the agonizing moment of name calling again, where they handed the certificates and took away the GC's. Every single one of the new citizens just shot out of the building without even looking back. almost 6 hours of court arrest. But I am a US Citizen!!!!! I rushed to the nearby Post office and applied for the Passport as well.
