  1. Reading all these reviews about people not getting original documents back, being conditionally approved, having to submit more information or documents worries me a LOT. My interview is in less than a week and so far the folder looks like this:

    - Copy of entire I-130 Petition (all documents)

    - All original documents sent at NVC stage electronically

    - Copies of all documents submitted at NVC Stage

    - 2 Passport pictures

    - Evidence of relationship (cards addressed to both, boarding passes when we visited each other, emails, chat logs, pictures)

    - Prepaid Expresspost Envelope

    - Medical results (Do not Open package + X-Ray)

    - Husband's recent paystubs

    Did I miss anything?

Did your husband receive his W2 yet? If so, I would bring them (or a copy).

Also, to improve the chances of getting my original documents back, I would print the page recommended by Trailmix here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...t&p=3721056

Did you communicate with the consulate or NVC by email? If so, I would bring the emails.

... that's what I was thinking to do for our interview.

    :)

  2. You know, everyone needs to be forewarned to get your originals back at the interview. Now we have two people with important originals missing. There are obviously COs in Montreal the do not understand they are supposed to return them, so when you are at your interview you need to:

    A. Ensure you have a photocopy of the original with you to give them

    B. Ensure you have the originals returned to you at the interview.

You might want to print out the information on this page to take with you to the interview:

From the Department of State website:

    Getting the applicant’s documents back

The applicant will receive the applicant’s original documents back at the time of the visa interview.

Note: Only one original or certified copy of each document must be submitted with the visa application. The applicant are advised, however, to obtain the necessary documents in duplicate, as this will enable the applicant to provide identical copies in the event the first set is lost or damaged.

Thank you for the link, I will definitely print this information and bring it with me. My husband's brith certificate is $5 and easy to get, but the marriage certificate and my documents were more expensive and I would not be happy to have to order a new set.

  3. What type of payment will Medisys in Montreal accept? VISA etc?

    Thanks!

Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Interac and cash :)

My husband's medical at Medisys is Feb 23 and he was told we should have our results back in time for our March 1st interview (should be ready Thursday, Friday at the latest). He had better pray really hard that there is no problems with his medical since he decided to wait until the extreme last minute to have it done. (last day possible and latest appointment possible)....

Thanks for the review La Souris!

Unless they find something "medical" that worries them, I would think the results will be there on time as they do seem to be well organized. Good luck with the medical... and the interview!

  4. I found it to be excellent. It remains to be seen (for me) how they deal with EP stuff at the actual interview...but it has certainly been a benefit at the NVC level. The most notable reason is because we had an RFE on the I-864 -- a very minor error -- and we were able to get it back to them on the same day we found out about the error. Our case was completed a mere three days later. If we'd had to send in the corrected forms via mail, it would have likely taken at least another week.

I'm also really eager to read the interview report for EPers.

  5. Great review! Yes, if there was any problem they would have told you about it and referred you to your family doctor so you should be good to go.

Thank you ~ yeah, that's what I thought...

  6. Update: I went to pick up my results/envelope this morning and it was fast and easy. The envelope is closed, there is no note to tell if I passed or failed, but I guess they would have told me something if there was a problem.

I asked about the pictures and the size is not important, as long as you have three colour ID pictures, with a plain white background (can be made in a photobooth). She said not to pay the big $$$ for them. :)

  7. That's interesting, if I moved to Quebec, I probably wouldn't learn French, on the flipside if a french speaking person from Quebec moves to Calgary, I don't expect them to learn English either. Why must we put our language preferences on others?

Now if you move to Quebec (or Calgary) and there are language preferences by employer - that's a personal thing for you, not a demand from bystanders.

    I'm sorry I wasn't clear... long day.

I simply think it's reasonable for an employer to prefer hiring an employee who can communicate with colleagues, customers, managers, etc.

If some immigrants are off the job market, or doing freelance, or being able to work in another language and that they prefer not to learn the local language good for them - one less thing to worry about!

  8. And yet Canadians and Americans go and work all over the world and never bother to learn the language of the country they are living in - and it doesn't seem to be a big deal. Maybe it's arrogant for us as (predominantly) English speakers to expect them to have perfect or near perfect English.

I think it's arrogant... but, it's as dumb not to bother to learn English if you are moving to the USA (or French if you are moving to Quebec, there, I said it!)

    Signed,

La Souris who speaks English with an accent and anticipates some discrimination

  9. QUESTION AGAIN LA SOURIS.

For the passport sizes, do they want Canadian or American sizes? o_o I forgot to ask...

I brought American size because it's what I had, but I don't think they care. I'm going back to get my results tomorrow, I can ask them if you want :)
