  1. This probably sounds pretty sad, but I don't think I'll be downtown for any of the Olympics. Maybe I'll change my mind and head down there this week or next...it's just so hard to get around down there during the games, and I'm not exactly "close" to Vancouver right now. If I was still living in Burnaby, it would be a no-brainer -- twenty minutes on the Skytrain and I'd be in the thick of it...but I'm currently on the outskirts. I love that Vancouver has the Olympics -- utterly love it! -- but I think I'll just participate as a couch potato!

It doesn't sound worst than my story of visiting the cities once the Olympics are over! Plus, we don't want you to get arrested by mistake during a street protest ~ just before the interview, très bad!

  2. Yeah...I knew that the American was going to win as soon as the run was done. It's funny how that works -- you can barely watch a sport in your life, and yet you can just somehow TELL when one performance is ever so slightly better than another!

I thought Jennifer Heil was a bit sulky though...even the American Bronze medalist was enthusiastically jumping around etc., but Heil looked decidedly beaten. I guess that's what happens when you have the weight of a nation on your shoulders...

Sometimes it's trickier, but that was clear - plus, it's on TV, so not that easy to see the height and all the little details that count...

Any fun events to attend outdoor in Vancouver while you are still there? I went to Sydney and Athens right after the Olympics, and it was still nice to see the different public spaces arrangements with big screens and all. Decorated buildings were cool too!

  3. Good to see Jennifer Heil get Silver! She skied her heart out, but finished second to an American who also skied her heart out. She did her best but was beat fair and square.

Already four medals today for the Americans!

Jennifer Heil has the cutest accent when she speaks French, I was rooting for her :P But, the American did real good too... I love moguls, the jumps are amazing!

  4. Hello everyone!!

So basically, currently, I have an appointment booked in Montreal at Dr. Howard Seiden's. My appointment is Monday March 22nd, and my interview is Friday March 26th. This was basically my best option, since I do not want to fly into Montreal more than once. As well, I was told I would have to wait 48 hours from my medical for my results. As well, I really don't want to backtrack (have my interview, then medical)

Does anyone have any experience with this? I was also told the results would be available on Wednesday afternoon, but I cannot help but worry that I didn't give myself enough time. ):

    Thanks in advance. >_<

No experience with Seiden... but I would think they know how important it is to have the results ready on time. I went to Medisys this week and they repeatedly told patients that they could come and pick up their results the morning of their interview, not sure if that is the morning of the 3rd business day or later. Medisys' location is real close to the consulate; Seiden is a little East of Downtown, depending on traffic, maybe 15 minutes by car/30 minutes with the public transit.

I hope everything will go well for you. :)

  5. Oh last time I had a blood test I ended up fainting! Think when I have to get mine I'll ask her to lay down as well!

Do you know how much it would cost to go to the other place in montreal? I've read people got their results a little faster going to that one, although not sure if its worth it if its really expensive.

The results at Medisys are available in 3 business days I think... I didn't ask specifics because it's not important in my case.

There's a recent review of the other Montreal clinic here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=238088 - the cost there is $260 and it may be faster, but I'm not sure.

  6. Here's a review of my medical at Medisys in Montréal...

Summary: quick, easy, I didn't faint. Cost: $213. I would recommend Medisys, especially since I think it's still the least expensive place to go and I have nothing bad to say about my experience (well, the parts I didn't like had nothing to do with them).

    Appointment:

When I called I was asked about the date of my Consulate interview and the lady told me the latest date I could come and get my results for the interview was March 18th (or something like that); I told her that I was living in Montreal and that I would prefer to be done with it in February; I took an appointment for the next afternoon. She reminded to bring my passport, interview letter, pictures (3) and glasses or medication, if applicable.

    Location:

Downtown, in the Loto-Québec building, 11th floor. It was windy, so I took the bus instead of walking there from my place.

After my appointment, I walked to the consulate to see how far it is, and it is a 5-minute walk, if you're from out of town and you need to pick up the result the morning of your interview it is possible since the clinic opens at 7 am.

    Clinic:

    1. The receptionist took my passport, letter and pictures, then gave me a questionnaire about previous/present medical conditions. Once filled, I gave it back to her and a few minutes later, the doctor called me in.

    2. Doctor exam: he reviewed the questionnaire and asked me a few questions (I was sick as a kid and I seriously didn't remember if I had an operation or if it was just some tests under anaesthesia - he told me that since I was cured and all today, it didn't matter). Then, to the exam table where I had to put on the exam "shirt" (I was told to keep my socks and underwear on, but to remove my bra). He checked my ears, eyes, ganglion, throat. Then, he listened to my lungs, asking me to breathe deeply (now, that was weird, I guess I was more nervous than what I thought because I had trouble breathing deeply; my expiration was shaky... ). Quick breast exam. Little reflex knock on the knees before I had to stand while he checked my backbone. I asked him if he thought my vaccines were up to date, and he told me the nurse would check that.

    3. Back to the waiting room for a few minutes until the nurse called me in. She told me to sit on a little chair to take some blood. I told her I would prefer to lay down and not faint and crash on the floor. So I went to the bigger lazy-boy type of chair. She was nice about it and told me that we would then do the vision test first, with and without glasses. I can still see the last line without my glasses

Ok, now I had to do the blood stuff and I felt she was quickly transforming in a Vampire lady... but, it went fast as she took only a little bit. I didn't faint, all was good.

She told me that my vaccines were fine, no need for more (Last year, I asked my doctor to give me the required boosters).

    4. Next stop was for the x-ray. Quick and easy. Hardest part was to remove my clothes to put the blue patient shirt again.

    5. Before taking my payment, the receptionist confirmed that I had seen the doctor, the nurse and done the x-ray, no extra vaccines. $ 213.

I have to call back at the beginning of next week to make sure everything is ready before picking up the results.

    :)

  7. I'm still rather annoyed by the whole petitioner birth certificate thing. I've sent an email to NVC Montreal for clarification. I don't know if my wife can get a certified copy to me in three weeks...and I wouldn't want her to have her original taken.

I think my husband has an extra one, I'll ask him to bring it "just in case". I wonder if they would still ask for it if he's with me with his US passport and all... Please let me know if you get the confirmation that it is a requirement. Merci :)

  8. I wanted to see my doctor before going to my medical and I was able to see him yesterday... I have to call Medisys for my appointment, but they had plenty of availabilities when I called them, so I should be checked and inspected this week (hate, hate, hate to think about it!) :dead:

As long as insomnia is not on their list of bad conditions :(

Can I post a list of all the documents I bring to the interview, just to make sure I'm not forgetting something? please please?

  9. That's strange... I'm sure they still do titer tests.

Is there a health department office in your area? Maybe try to ask them about it before getting vaccines?

Unless you really want to get all your vaccines again, I would look for another clinic/doctor who wants to to the titer tests.
