  1. Great! Thank you! when I googled I could only find info for adults and most said Nica does't allow dual citizenship?

The closest to us is Houston, I'll give them a call too! Thanks for the info!

You can register the baby at any Nicaraguan consulate. I think there's one in New York. Not sure if you speak Spanish but maybe your husband can take a look:

For babies born outside of Nicaragua, you will need to submit the following documents to the Nicaraguan consulate closest to you:

    1. Birth certificate

    2. Photo ID of the the Nicaraguan parent

    3. Marriage certificate of the parents (if married)

There's a note in that website that says that if you do it within the year of the baby's birth, there will be no charges for the registration.

This is the info of the Nicaraguan consulates:

  2. hola buenas tardes!

I just want to throw my 2 cents in here. We have LOTS of experience with the K-1 and Managua.

I would definitely recommend the K-1. it was really fast. See my timeline.

I had plans to do similar to what you would like to do. I was going to go down for Yader's interview and during that time we were going to have our 'Nica' wedding. However, we didn't end up doing that because, turns out it was important to his mother, that we not mock a real wedding. Religious reasons. But that really doesn't matter much for your case!

You mentioned that you are planning a trip down to Nicaragua soon, I would REALLY recommend speaking to a Nicaraguan lawyer about what 'legally' defines marriage. We had some issues surrounding a religious blessing on a past relationship of my husband's and whether it constituted a marriage or not. You should ask the lawyer to legally spell out what constitutes a marriage, I find it's really hard to pinpoint a lot of things in Nicaragua... :) but this would be worth it.

You might have to sacrifice and alter your ceremony a little bit, if you want to go ahead with the k-1. But the k-1 is totally worth it. and tons of the VJ members who have been through k1 interviews in Managua can provide you with the packet of information to work on ahead of time, which is immensly useful.

i wish you muy buena suerte!

  3. Hi all--

Yader and I are trying to send his resume to a couple places and halfway through I started thinking, is it weird, or necessary, to state that he has a valid green card on his resume?

His experience with general labor, maintenance and 'all things you can typically do without a green card' plus his latino last name make me second guess myself?

Does anyone have any relevant experience or advice concerning this?

    thanks!

  4. wow! this is way intense! we had about a fourth the questions at our interview and answered together. Was the question about the president of Cuba a joke...?

One thing about our interview. Although I could see her checking things off as she asked (address...marriage date, birthdays) everything was approached very conversationaly. Was this the case for anyone else? It's interesting to me how the visa process is so strict although it can vary from country to country a bit, but the AOS interview, even though its all here and in control of USCIS varies so wildly. Like why some of us dont get interviews, some do, etc.

    but congrats on your approval!

Ok VJs friends, we got approved !We arrived at the USCIS in LA this morning and had to wait around 1 hour before to hear my name.

The guy was nice and began by asking me the missing documents in my folder :

    - Medical

    - NOA2

    Then the questions :

    - To both of us at the very beginning :

    Are you married

    Are you happy together

    Do you live together

    No regrets ?

    - To me :

    Jamie's birthday

    Number of brother and sister

    Name of bro and sister

If bro has kids and how many

    If I met his family

    If I was married before

If I am or was a terrorist

If I do or ever tried drugs

    If I am a communist

Which communist country is the closest one to the US

Who is the president of Cuba

Who is the president of France

Do I like the french president

When and where we got married

    Did we have a reception

    What are Jamie's hobbies

What was my job in France

Do I work in the US

Since when I work in the US and where

Do you think that Jamie can say "I love you" in French

    To Jamie

    What is Juliette's birthday

Does she have a sister or brother

What is the name of her sister

Does her sister have kids, how many

    Is her sister married

What do you like about Juliette

Can you say "I love you" in french

    What is your job

    Do you have kids

    Were you married before

And then he shake my hand saying "congratulation, you are now a permanent resident of the United States of America, Welcome"

He explained me everything, told me that I might get my GC by mail very soon. He didn't take my EAD and AP. No stamp in the passport. He gave me a letter saying that I am approved.

  5. Hi all--- just wanted to update!

today we had our interview! one year from sending our k-1 packet (8/6/08) and although it wasn't very clear at the time, we came home and checked online and green card production has been ordered!

it has been a long year, which is represented by all of the following emtions... (and more)... :crying::unsure::blink::blush::crying::angry::angry::thumbs::blink::blush::dance::dance::dance:

good luck to all of you! and thanks for all of the support along the way! I was just singing visa journey praises to a confused newly engaged couple last night! it really does make the difference of night and day with this whole process!

hey are we allowed to bring binders to the interview?? or r we supposed to bring it in plastic clear bags. folders???

we put ours in a three ring binder. one for proof, one for documents and forms. and we put them all in plastic sleeves. it was a little obsessive, but it worked okay, and helped us keep the chaos a little bit organized.

    good luck tomorrow!!

  6. Just wanted to share!

We just had our AOS interview this morning at the St. Louis Field office. It was sooo fast. We waited for about 5 minutes, they called us 15 minutes early, and the interview took about 15 minutes total!

Only there were a couple of things that were confusing...

    1. no translator.... I ended up translating? It was kind of awkward, I was concerned that that would be a strike against us... but hubby was just to nervous to summon his english ;) The girls (both immigrants) at work thought the interviewer was 'tricking' us, to see how well we communicated. ?

    2. No clear answer. She never said, you are approved. or anything like that. She took his advanced parole papers and said these are null and void now, and told us how to file to lift conditions in two years...so I kind of assumed, but I was still confused. I just realized now when I checked our status online and it says card production was ordered!

    oh well, not complaining!

  7. We have our interview tomorrow for AOS in St. Louis and I'm starting to get a little nervous we dont have enough proof....

    We have:

    pictures (of course)

    marriage license/certified copy

    insurance cards through my employer

a letter from my employer stating that I added him to my insurance after our marriage

    joint bank account

copy of credit cards for which he is a authorized user

    an affidavit

we dont have a joint lease or car title... or any utility bills together... will this be an issue?

  8. we had tons of problems with driver's licenses. Everyone had a different story for what was needed, it seemed the I-94 was key, but that expired. so they wouldn't give up anything.

that was about a moth ago. and ironically, we just went back again today, this time with EAD, proof of address, passport, SSN and AOS pending papers (NOA1 and Interview Letter) and he got it today!

(we actually took just about every single paper in efforts to be prepared, although it really doesnt make a difference to them... sometimes I just like to 'drown' people in paperwork proving he is legal. especially when most assume he's not)

  9. I used a co-sponsor because the year before we filed I was a volunteer with no income. it worked fine. It is not necessary until the k-1 interview. and in the time you are waiting, it is helpful if you are able to get employment and show them that you are capable of supporting yourself. I took several months of paystubs, bank account info, and letter from employer.

as far as fee waiver, I'm not sure. I dont think there is such a thing? maybe i'm wrong, but USCIS doesn't seem to be THAT helpful especially when it comes to giving discounts...

  10. it wont be faster with a lawyer.

we used a lawyer for k-1 and it was actually slower because we had to send everything through him first and wait for him to finish things.

the only reason it would be recommended is if you think you have something about your case which may be a problem, in our case in was a legally questionable previous marriage (see confusing!).

but now that you have found visa journey, you are in good hands. you should be ok.

    good luck!

  11. congrats hyena!! it's about time!!

congrats to HW too, I don't think I've given you a proper congrats yet!

Mara, hang in there. Did you all consider getting married on your visit? or on your next visit in Aug?

We did, and we spoke to the lawyer and very thing about it, and was advised that the chances were we would have a hellish AOS and they would charge us with Visa fraud, and since there was no way we could prove hardship it would have ended with me being deported or fined or jailed and the same for Chris (minus the deportation).

wow. that's enought o scare the living bageezers out of you! Well it sounds like you are doing the right thing, even if it sucks. I guess the plus side is that they let you in to visit! Hang in there!
