  1. Hello everyone,

I started as K1 and I have now completed everything down to my naturalization. I am now moving forward with petitioning my parents (IR-5) and I can't update my timeline to add my IR-5 petition. Any help is much appreciated.

    Thanks!

  2. Hello everyone,

Hope all is well. I am excited to say that I am now getting ready to start the process of petitioning my parents to come here through IR-5. I am stumped on how to answer portions of the forms, so I would need some help. It would be greatly appreciated.

Part A, #10 (Alien Reg Number): Petitioner side - do I still need to fill this out when I am a naturalized citizen? I am just making sure I don't miss out on something important.

Part C, #22: Complete the information below if your relative is in the United States and will apply for adjustment of status - My parents are in the Philippines. My question is on the part where it asks: "If your relative is not eligible for adjustment of status, he or she will apply for a visa abroad at the American consular post in:" What exactly does this mean? Do I need to fill out this part?

Part D, #1. If separate petitions are also being submitted for other relatives, give names of each and relationship. I am naming my father in the other petition that I will be submitting along with my mom's. So , I put the other parent's name here, correct?

Part D, #2. Have you ever before filed a petition for this or any other alien? Yes or No and Name. How do I answer this question? Does this question include the other petition concurrent with the submission of the other parent, since I am petitioning both my parents at the same time?

I apologize if these questions have been asked a while back or in another thread. I have tried to search for a similar set of questions and I am coming up empty. Thank you very much in advance!

  3. I forgot to add that the one person who was not able to show up on time arrived after the ceremony. She said there was another wreck on her way in and that got her really late. The IOs accommodated her even after that and conducted another oath ceremony just for her - which was AWESOME!

Overall, it was a happy day!

  4. Review for Oath Ceremony: Louisville, KY, 9/25/13

My schedule was at 10am and I live about 30 minutes from the venue. I was told that there would be a registration and check-in so we decided to leave the house at 8:45. My in-laws were with us in a separate vehicle looking forward to witness the ceremony. About 20 minutes into the trip, we encountered a standstill traffic on the interstate due to a bad wreck. We got stuck for about an hour with a screaming toddler in the background. My son was not happy that the vehicle was not moving as much as when we go through decent traffic conditions. I got to the building at 10:25am. My husband dropped me off to find a parking. I was checked in in less than 5 minutes and the IOs are all aware of the traffic situation and decided to wait until 11 to give everyone a chance to make it. There was a total of 50 people taking oath. There were designated seats for friends and family and a separate set of seats for oath-takers. At 11 there were 49 of us and the ceremony started. The program was very laid back and easy - but it was solemn. We then introduced ourselves to the rest of the crowd stating our country of origin and our city of residence in KY.

We then stated our pledges and oaths and listened to the speech of the President. We were then given our certificates and the program concluded at 11:25 - short and sweet. Took pictures and we headed for lunch to celebrate.

    Congrats to Vanessa and Azure!

  5. I'm getting ready for mine this morning. The venue is just one block from yhe USCIS office where I had my interview and bio. Wish me luck. I have a very active and independent 15-month-old who is VERY vocal about his needs. You know I'm just saying things in a positive light regarding my baby. Lol I still don't know what to wear either. I will update as soon as I can!

  6. No he did not say, he just said that I have to go back. I introduced him to my principal who needed to give me the time off of work.

The only angle I can see what is conflict of interest that you have his son as a common ground? Oh heck that is weird. And for him to pop-up in school telling you "unofficially" that you have to go back is even weirder. I would like to see how this pans out Friday. Good luck!

  7. Hello, everyone! I know this is a bit late but I have been terribly sick that my review is late. But... Better late than never. I have a couple of things I would like to share that may not be common to most people who have gone through the citizenship interview and testing process.

A week before my interview date, I received the yellow letter, telling me to bring the divorce decree and certificate to my interview. I did of course, do that. I was a little confused since I gave them a copy of the exact documents they asked for.

Nevertheless, I was armed with said documents the day of.

Interview schedule: 7/18/13, Thursday, 10:30am, Louisville, KY

I got there about 10:08am. They were not busy at all. We all went there - my daughter and my 13month old boy, and my husband. Of course, since we needed to rush, the lil man decided to have a dirty diaper. Had to deal with that and finally made it to the check-in at 10:20am. There was nobody ahead of me so I went on to inform them I was there for an interview. He asked for my GC and my interview notice. So, yeah I gave him my card and gave him (to my horror), my biometrics letter. I was so out of it, I could only tell him, I have misplaced the interview notice. He said that was ok - to me huge relief. He looked up my name and told me he will give my GC to the interviewer and she will give it back to me after the interview. WHEW!

    Time check: 10:23am

There were 2 people ahead of me but, it was no more than 5 minutes that my name was called. I walked in as we exchanged courtesies and I was "sworn it". We sat down and the first thing she asked (yet, again) was where was my interview letter. Apologetically, I told her I lost it. Now, I am highly OC and I have never dropped the ball EVER SINCE day one in this whole immigration journey - until this time. I jokingly told her it must be my postpartum brain working the magic. Then she handed my GC back to me. She was a very nice lady - soft-spoken and proper. She went through and confirmed with me all the information that I wrote on the N400 packet. I am currently working from home as an independent contractor for project management and consultancy for myself and we had a bit of a discussion about how I would like to place that "employment status" on my documents. I told her to just write down "homemaker" - as she added that information on my forms. Good enough. She told me it won't affect my certificate. She then asked me to sign the form indicating that she made one (1) addition to it. Signed it and then we moved forward.

She then announced that she will be starting with the test and asked me the 6 civics questions which I answered correctly. I could see her ticking "correct" boxes on the form in front of her. We then moved forward to the reading and then the writing test. After that she told me I passed the test and my oath schedule will be mailed to me along with the venue and time.

She eased up after that so, I took the opportunity to ask her how the scheduling of the oath-taking is done. She told me that I reside in a county that will probably place me in 4 different cities/courthouses that conduct oath ceremonies and it could be any of those. That was it. I thanked her and I was on my way. Time check - 10:33am.

So, currently, I am now just waiting for the notification letter. Based on what i have observed in good ole Louisville, the oath ceremony could take anywhere from 60-90 days from the citizenship test and interview. So, I am looking at anywhere from mid-September to mid-October.

    Thanks, y'all!
