If you want your mother here, then apply for her green card, you are now a US citizen.
She doesn't want to be a resident she only wants to visit family. I wasn't going to try extending the visa for 10years!!! Why you guys jump at conclusions so fast??
I just wanted to know if I could extend it for few more months until I get my summer vacation
Thanks for info
I would disagree with everyone in this thread and say that it would be allowed under a B-2 visa. "Visit with friends or relatives" is a permitted activity according to the Dept. of State's website.
I think that when you specified the number of hours per day she would be caring for your child and said that it was so you could go back to work, you made the arrangement sound more formal than it actually will be. "Babysitting" implies some kind of work for pay. If part of your mother's "visit with relatives" involves her caring for your child while she is there, in addition to all of the other activities she will do, I don't consider that "taking money out of a US citizen's pocket."
I said babysitting and I explained that I meant watching(sitting with the baby) for a few hours. I didn't mean that she would be my nanny.
Thanks

I just want her to visit for a few months and possibly extend her stay for a few months. I don't have the money to get her a green card and she doesn't want to be American resident

Obviously I am not paying my mom for watching her grandson while I am out for a few hours some days. She comes with the purpose of seeing me and my baby but she would like to help just like my mom in law who is American citizen would do if she could . I wouldn't pay her either. If I didn't have parents to help I would have to pay someone . My grandparents stayed with us when my parents were at work but I guess American culture is different. Any way, thanks for the answers who seem to disagree with what some immigration attorneys say on other websites that I googled. Some say it's okay if not paid.it's FAMILY

Hi,
I am naturalized usc.
My mom came to visit us when our baby was born last year and she stayed for 3 months. Next year and i want to start working part time and I wanted my mom to come back and help with the baby while we are at work. It will be for ~3-5hrs/day.
1.can she babysit my baby while she is on visitors visa?is this an allowed activity?
2.her visa is for10 years. Does she have to go back to she embassy before she buys her plane ticket?
3. Can she extend her visa for baby sitting reasons? What does the extension process involve?
Thanks

What kinds of questions should she expect from the counselor?
I have heard that a letter of invitation( or smth like that) is advised..I am surprised you say the opposite. I have also heard that W2 and stuff to show that we can support her for her trip(a couple of months). You didn't send anything like that?
What kind of evidence to show ties to her home place should she present?
Thanks

Hi!
My mother wants to visit me(naturalize USC) and my husband(USC) in US.
What type of visa does she need? Does she initiate the application or us?
What paperwork does she need from me/my husband?
How long does it take to obtain the visa? She is Romanian.
Thanks

after the 10-12 years(whatever it is) do they receive the green card or a type of visa? If it's green card, for how long is it valid? I see the petition is only 420 bucks. Is that all I have to pay through the entire process?
Does the lottery give them the green card? Does the lottery also help them find jobs?
Thanks
-
He and his family live in Romania. Do I have to file for his wife and son separately? Do they all get green cards at the same time?
Do you think that lottery of visas could be easier or shorter?
I read a little about the new immigration laws, but I am not clear if we can't file for sibilings at all or they will be some changes in waiting times? What do you know about these changes?
-
My brother, his wife and his four year old son would be interested in moving to US. I am a naturalized USC. What are the steps to file a petition for all of them?
I know that getting my citizenship was a long and expensive process. About how long it takes until my brother and his family could take his green card? About how much is the overall cost for everything?
If he applies for the visas lottery what kind of visa can he get?
Thanks

true true GRE is what you need. I didn't read the MA part. I just read " same boat" so I assumed you were looking at an MBA as well.
I actually talked to a guy who teaches at a business school here in Seattle and his advice was to establish oneself in a job with a 3-5 year goal in mind and then decide upon a masters program. Of course his advice was for MBA applicants where some experience in business is recommended upon admission. He said " if your goal is simply to make more money, a Masters program is not always the answer. Find a job you love work hard and the money will follow. if you still feel you need too further your education once you do something you like go on and do it."
I actually almost enrolled in an MBA and changed my mind...totally not my thing. I feel the same way: Do something that you like and you will find a good job if you're good at it.
-
Did you start a Masters program in the US with a degree from another country? Yes
Was it worth it meaning did it help you get a better job(don't have what to compare it with, it's my only job) improve your skills(my language skills, the teaching skills I improve them while I teach...you don't learn your job in school..but I didn't go to any fancy school, so I guess it depends where you get your degree from) adapt better (sure)?

Prepare for GMAT and Toefl. We need both

It was worth it for me. masters in teaching from here and found a HS teaching job right away.

I heard of it a couple of times- likely they got a cancelation for tomorrow's ceremony and it was too late to send out letters, so they called the next person in line seeing if they wanted the spot.
My oath ceremony was in the waitingroom of the local USCIS office, that is normal.
Did they give you back your green card? Will I ever need it for anything?
-
they called me yesterday and my appt is tomorrow...so very short notice. they did give me a receipt:proof of me passing the naturalization test, so I'll bring taht with me. I'll let you know if that was enough. Thanks
Everything was fine. They only needed to look at my greencard. It is done. Now I need to apply for American pass+change my SS status.
Thanks to all the people on this forum who answered all my questions.

Not sending out that N-445 anymore? Wife was unique, emailed hers to her. With St. Paul's could be at the Vikings stadium, some university, some courthouse, some park, but for both of my girls, was in the field office.
You already read your oath aloud at your interview, ironically not a part of your English test and signed it, oath ceremony is just a lip service. You walk in with your green card, walk out with your certificate, just make sure its correct or will cost you 400 bucks and another six month wait. Could be handed out by a clerk, a federal judge, or worse a congressman, still the same certificate, the latter is there for his glory, not yours.
Do I have to pay anything this time? They didn't say anything on the phone.
-
I was a actually told at my interview that they'd call me, too. The officer checked my phone number four times constantly mentioning this. I totally forgot to ask her about the actual invitation and only remembered about it at home. I guess we just have to wait and see, hopefully something will come in the mail before the ceremony. Otherwise I will be calling the courthouse with this question, it is too long drive there to go and be turned away at the door.
Did your status change online? When is your ceremony? If there is reasonable amount of time left I wouldn't worry too much just yet and wait or the invitation

Hi!
I passed my citizenship test a few weeks ago and today I got a phone from an immigration officer. I thought I was supposed to get a letter with the ceremony date. Did anybody else get a phone call for the ceremony? Is this how it usually work?
Also, I was told to just bring my green card(I have it) and any travel doc issued by US( I don't have any). Is the the only paperwork that I have to bting with me, form your experience?
The ceremony will be held at the immgigratio office where I took the test. I was expecting it to be at a federal court. Does this seem weird toy you?
Thanks

Good luck on your citizenship test.
To answer a few of your questions:
Yes, Romania does allow dual citizenship, so you will retain that.
Once you have US citizenship, moving to another country is not a reason to lose it.
The immigration to Romania is actually not an easy process, and you would need to establish residence first. More information here:
http://ori.mai.gov.ro/detalii/pagina/en/Granting-right-of-permanent-residence/79
Your husband needs a work permit in order to legally work here. The employer has to apply for the work permit, so you first need to find somebody willing to hire you and to jump through all the bureaucratic hoops to get you to Romania legally. More information here:
http://romania.usembassy.gov/acs/working.html
Finding a job in Romania will be quite difficult for your husband if he doesn't speak the language fluently. Even if employees in multinational companies are required to know English, the working language is Romanian. His knowledge of English as a native language would only be useful if he wants to work as an English teacher. BUT, most schools require at least an EFL teaching certificate (like DELTA or CELTA, google them) and - here comes the problem - teachers are paid by the hour taught, and they are worked extremely hard for very little money. Is this a risk you are willing to take?
Thanks for your reply. I looked into working as an English teacher at the AISB. They seem to pay well enough for Bucharest and I am already a atecaher here. My husband is willing to take CELTA, but I am not sure if AISB will hire him. Any idea how teaching at American Internationsl school of Bucharet would be like? Thanks

you will be called he or she will take you to there office your file will be on there desk, you will be ask to remain standing raise your right hand do you swear to tell the truth you maybe seated, they will go over your file, chances are they may not ask for any other documents, then the vivil test you will be ask 10 questions you must get only 6 right, to pass, buy you don't know which ones.then you will be asked to read a few questions in english, then write the same ,then congratulations, you have passed your interview you will be given a form that you passed, she may or may not ask you to wait out side for oath ceremony appointment or you may get one in the mail.
Thanks for the prompt response

Hi!
I just looked again at the paperwork I need to bring with me. My naturalization is through maraige with USC.
It says that I need to bring thr copies for all the originals I oginally submitted. I don;t rememeber what copies/original I had to submit. Any help? Besied N400, I know I sent a tax certificate...I believe I sent the originals.
Also, we have copies of my maraige certificate, but not the ones with the embolded stamp. Do you think a plain certified copy will be good to bring with us?
Should I expect any questions besides the 100 q that I studied from their disc?
Thanks

It appears that your child will also have Romanian citizenship if you have not resigned your Romanian citizenship: http://www.romanianpassport.co.il/english/romanian-citizenship-law/ This link does not discuss what happens when a Romanian citizenship accepts citizenship in another country but that doesn't seem to be listed as a way of losing citizenship.
Ok - it looks like Romania does recognize dual citizenship with the US: http://www.multiplecitizenship.com/wscl/ws_ROMANIA.html so it appears you are still a Romanian citizen as well as a US citizen, and your child is therefor also a dual US/Romanian citizen. You should look into getting proof of both of your son's citizenships.
sounds good. thanks so much.

If I am naturalized American and my husband USC, and our child is born in Romania, will he be Romanian or American citizen?
I am not sure if I am still Romanian citizen if I became naturalized American citizen.

family member visiting health insurance questions
in Tourist Visas
Posted
Hi!
My father is visiting us from Romania for a month. He is 63 years old.
We didn't look into buying him insurance as we figured that he needs to be screened before getting it and that might take longer than a month. Also we're not sure if he would be eligible for health insurance at his age. He also has a little high blood pressure problem.
I was wondering what does the travel insurance that people buy with the plane ticket really cover? I heard that it only covers emergencies while being on the plane? Does anybody know what is the max covered amount? What's the copay or the deductabile?
Second, I have some questions for future trips that my family members might make over here:
Do international health insurance work here?
I called some well know hospitals in my area and they said they don't accept international insurances, but my family is convinced that if they buy one from Romania and it says international it would work here. Again, I don't think they pay a big premium over there, so if smth happens, we would have to pay here the cost and then when they go back to Romania they recover their money? How does it really work?
Thanks
