While there are a few people here who are perennial pessimists, most people here are genuinely trying to help. When someone says that they've done something, or suggests that they want to do something, that's well known here to be a big mistake then people are definitely going to strongly recommend against it. That's why this site exists - to make sure people are getting good advice.
People are told repeatedly not to make any concrete plans until after they have the visa in hand. This advice even comes from the consulates. When someone insists on doing something that they've been told repeatedly not to do then it's only proper for people here to condemn that action. It may not be "nice", but if people "don't say anything at all" then other new members will get the impression that it's OK, and they'll blame VJ for not warning them when their world collapses around them because their visa was postponed or denied.
Just because one person does something they were warned not to do and they get away with it, that doesn't make it advisable for others. One person's experience does not become a blueprint for everyone else. It's the collective experience of everyone that should be relied upon. You might have made firm wedding plans in advance and things might have worked out fine for you. If so, congratulations. However, if you advise someone else to do the same thing and their plans blow up in their faces because the visa is delayed then you'll have to live with the fact that you helped contribute to their misery.

You never know who you will run into from this company later when you are looking for your next job. It's in very poor taste to not give notice, no matter what. taking the classy and professional route will never hurt you, but not doing so just may come back to bite you.

The first article actually recommends Chrome over Firefox. Note that it deals with Chrome 10 and FF 4. Chrome 13 is the standard now and 14/15 are in beta. FF 6 has been released and FF 7 is in development.
The second article you posted is irrelevant. It's from 2 years ago and not a single point or observation has been relevant or accurate for quite some time. Addons have been present in Chrome for quite some time, and, in fact, development of extensions/addons in Chrome is much easier than Firefox.
You might prefer Firefox, but it most certainly is not a better browser than Chrome. Chrome provides a much more secure environment, such as a sandboxed PDF viewer and a sandboxed flash player. It provides more convenient features as well, such as the recent behavior that downloads the first webpage in google search results in a background thread. Tighter integration with google products also are quite nice and not as complete in any other browser. In fact, communication between Chrome and Google products is guaranteed to be faster in Chrome due to the proven fast in-house protocol used by Chrome to communicate with google's backend. In terms of appearance, there isn't much to judge as google has taken a minimalist approach. All you really see is the page you are viewing and a thin bar at the top with the standard icons. It's hard for me to understand how that could be considered ugly (or beautiful).
I should also add that an "IT person's" opinion is not really any more valuable than an everyday user's opinion of the browser, unless that IT Person happens to develop web applications and has intimate knowledge of the browsers, their layout engines, etc. I'm not sure which category the people you mentioned in the previous post fit into.

I'm curious as to why you think chrome sucks. technically speaking it is a better engineered browser compared to Firefox. It also provides optimizations, conveniences, and safety features that no other browser provides.
