Hello. I'm new here and not sure if this has been discussed before. But I have this question.
I'm a born US citizen and my wife is Ukrainian. She is learning English but it's a ways from understanding the details in immigration applications without some translation. Is it required or advised to have an interpreter explain the I-130 and I-485 to her and sign the applications saying that this was done? I'll be the one filing all the papers. She and I do just fine with Google Translate for more complicated discussions so I know I could walk her through the details. But it seems they may want a certified translator to explain it to her and sign it off.
I appreciate any advice on this.
Marriage Based AOS for and Public Charge
in Adjustment of Status from Work, Student, & Tourist Visas
Posted
My wife came to the US 2 years ago under the Uniting for Ukraine program with Humanitarian Parole status. Now that we are married and filing I-485 for adjustment of status to Permanent resident, I don't know how to answer question 56 concerning "Public Charge."
I have read in some places the Humanitarian Parolees from Ukraine are exempt. But I want to make sure I answer correctly.
I think if she is exempt it would be the choice of "Refugee (Form I-590 or Form I-730) We never filed I-590 or I-730 to get her here in the first place that I know of. Just I-134 and I-765 I think. I'm tempted to just put "Not Exempt" because I make plenty of money and I just want it done. Not sure if that would cause problems either.
Any insight is greatly appreciated.
