It's a whole new petition. Ideally somebody would have done it a long time ago so they would be a good way through the wait now, if you haven't then I guess you need to decide if it's worth paying the fees etc, given it'll be a 20+ year wait and hopefully they'll get a visa through your mother anyway.

Oh. i did not know about it. thank you. i will have to think about it. it's not about the fees, it's about the time.

I meant a separate petition. I know it's awful to think about, but as back up in case something happens to your mother between now and them getting the visa.

If they have B visas, then I can't see how an expedite would be granted as it's not like they're being kept apart from her. But they can ask, no hard in trying.

I understand. and we did have that discussion as well. but thank you for pointing it out. makes sense. So if i was to take that route, how would that work? meaning do i have to submit a new application to be a backup petitioner?

If it says April 2021, then yes, they have a long wait ahead of them still.

A congressman can't help you jump the line. You can try for an expedite, but usually only 'life or death' reasons will count I'm afraid. Worth applying just in case though, you never know. Does she have other issues that means she can't travel? If so, use those, not the wheelchair as plenty of wheelchair users fly with no issues (my father was one of them). And I assume they've tried for B visas to visit her but been declined?

Thanks. She is very weak, she has misc health issues which prevents her from even visiting my house (I live 20min away). They have been here few times on travel visa but it's not always feasible for them to visit.

Have you petitioned them too as back up?

my other brother is the joint petitioner since my mom did not work.

  4. @appleblossom:-
Thank you. not sure how to reply back to your post but yeah, I am here in US. I have been a naturlized citizen for a while now (my oath ceremony was in June 2014).  I used IV Scheduling Status Tool website and found this for Bangladesh embassy. Does this mean they are currently working on date of April 2021? That means my niece will not get interview for another 3+ years. her case was marked as documentarily complete as of 29-Oct-2024.

If yes then this is going to be depressing for them and my worry is that my mother's health is deteriorating day by day. Do you think if we make an appt to the see congressman based on her health? she can't travel much and uses a wheelchair already. there is no way she can fly back to visit them.

  5. Thanks but as I said, my request was denied when I tried to apply for Adjustment of Status. i would not want her to go through the same trouble. In my case, my parents were told from the embassy that i do not have to travel for interview, i can just adjust it here. unfortunately, i took it lightly and ended up with a denial. Nothing happened when i did request with an Appeal.

  6. sincere apologies for not sharing this before:

    My brother's case timeline:

    Petition was sent on 10/26/2010
Case was approved on Feb 2015

    Priority Date: Oct 26 2010

As of now: waiting for Interview

    Country of birth: Bangladesh
if i read the bulletin, they are working on22JUN11 for  F3 category. But not sure if this is same as interview. As of now, we have no update on when interview will take place. It could be months or years again based on current situation.

  8. Hello, my mother had petitioned for my oldest brother (married with wife and a child who is now 21) and the website says "waiting for interview". My question is that long ago, when my parents received their green card interview, I was under 21 and I missed the opportunity to fly back to the country of my birth. They were told that since I am in USA, I should be able to adjust my status (I was an international student at that time); however, long story short, once they arrived here and i went with them (I had already turned 21) so my application was denied at local USCIS Office. They told me that I could have gone back home and completed the interview process. I met someone recently who had petitioned for her sister and 2 sons back in 2008. They just came to USA in February. The sons were both over 21 but they were able to arrive to USA under their mother.

Question is that were they approved because they were still living there regardless of age? My niece is currently in USA as an international student but she is concerned that she is 21 already and may be denied even if she flies back to her birthplace when their interview appointment is confirmed.  Sorry for long details but really want to understand how this would work.  Based on my previous question here on this forum, it was suggested that she must go back even for 2 weeks for the interview. As of now, how things are, she is also afraid of return.

    Thank you in advance.

  9. Thank you. I believe it became current last year, have to check on that. As I said earlier today, the most recent update is the email from March. We just want to try to get it expedited but if he is to get his interview soon then it will be great. So if for some reason timelines move then it sounds like he may not get interview for another 7-8 months? We have consistently checking the CEAC website and watching for their emails.

  10. Thank you for the quick response. So based on that, any idea on when he may get an interview scheduled? This is last update from NVC back in March:

"This notice is to inform you that your case for an immigrant visa is documentarily complete at the National Visa Center (NVC) and has been since 29-Oct-2024.
        - This means that NVC received all of the fees, forms and documents required before an immigrant visa interview. Your petition is waiting for an interview appointment. Thank you for your patience.

Your case will remain at NVC until an appointment is scheduled. Then, we will send it to the proper U.S. embassy or Consulate General.
        - We will notify the applicant, petitioner, and attorney (if you have one) when the appointment is scheduled."

Just trying to find out more info on this. My mom is unable to travel overseas to see him so we are hoping his interview is done soon and is approved. Her health is deteriorating and she is stressed about his application. We are looking to the option to try to meet with local senator or congressman's office to see if they will help expedite it due to her health issue.

  11. Hello, I am looking to find out how to read the Priority date for Family F3 request. The request is for my brother who falls in F3 category. So when I look at https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/legal/visa-law0/visa-bulletin/2025/visa-bulletin-for-april-2025.html. I am confused as his NVC application shows Priority Date is Oct 2010. However, so I am trying to understand about it. The Visa Bulletin says they are at 01APR11 for F3 but as of the most recent email from them, it is waiting for interview to be scheduled. so did he miss something or am I misreading this table? it's been a while that i have looked into this priority date information. Also, i would appreciate if anyone can share their experience if someone had a recent interview  for F3. Thank you so much.

  12. Hello, I am hopeful someone will have some response to this topic. My brother's NVC case has been approved and all documentations have been accepted. As of now, he is waiting for the interview appointment letter. He is in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Does anyone know estimated Interview appointment time? I have looked on the Embassy website but they are referring to student visa or tourist visa. I did not see anything about immigrant visa. Thank you so much in advance.

  13. Hello, Thank you in advance for answering. The question I have is that my niece is here in USA under student visa and currently enrolled at a university. However, my mom petitioned for her dad and she is also an applicant/dependent. NVC has reviewed and accepted all the documentations and now they are at Step 10 and waiting for interview appointment (Step 10 details are here: Interview Preparation. ) My question is regarding the medical exam, since she is in the USA legally at this moment, can she schedule the medical exam here or does she have to fly back to her home country for the medical exam part? They have yet to receive the interview appointment letter but we are being proactive on this. Since it takes time to schedule medical exam (I personally have done it as part of my green card years ago so I know that it could take days to get an appointment) so we want to be prepared.

Thank you again to everyone who can help with this matter.

  14. Sorry, I forgot to specify. I tried some of their options but this one i think worked for me:

I solved the issue for someone else and saw that it had something to do with the file's property. Here is how you can solve it.

    1. Open the pdf in Word doc. Microsoft Word and save it under a different name since it will be read-only.

    2. After saving the file, save it as pdf.

What is the file size for you? Mine was at 776KB but yet it was not working. So I did open it in WORD then saved it as a PDF. Then uploaded it.

You can also try this option:
We were having the same issue when even we reduced the file size to 365kb. I sent the original document to my email. Instead of downloading, open print option and "save as pdf" instead of "Microsoft print to pdf." That reduced the file size to 236kb, which i was able to attach and submit without any issue. For reference, the original file size was 443kb.

Be sure to keep the original copy saved somewhere and create copies to follow these options..
