HI GUYS, I HAVE A QUESTION, ME AND FIANCEE ARE EXPECTING OUR FIRST CHILD THIS COMING AUGUST, WE ARE EXPERIENCING SOME DELAYS WITH OUR NOA#2, SO WE DECIDED TO HAVE THE BABY IN CEBU PHILIPPINES, NOW MY QUESTION IS , SINCE WE ARE NOT MARRIED, WILL THE HOSPITAL ALLOW ME TO GIVE MY LAST NAME TO OUR BABY AND DO WE HAVE TO ADD MY FIANCEE'S LAST NAME TO OUR BABY'S NAME? WE ARE PLANNIG ON DOING THE CRBA RIGHT AFTHER THE BABY IS BORN.
THANKS EVERYONE
Hey Joe, Yes you can add your last name to your daughter's bc. That is exactly what we did and as you know we were not married yet either. Your fiance's last name will become your daughter's middle name on the bc. That's the way they do it in the PI. Don't worry if you want to change her middle name you can do that when you guys get to the States. That's what we are going to do to. Hope everything else is going ok. Have a great 4th buddy. MikeNot necessarily true all the time. Due to several changes in the provisions of the Family and Civil Codes of the Philippines, the application of the law has been inconsistent. I have a niece who was not allowed to use my brother's surname because she was born out of wedlock, but she was subsequently legitimated after the parents married. Chapter 3, Article 176 of Family Code of the Philippines is clear on this:
http://www.chanrobles.com/executiveorderno209.htm
Chapter 3. Illegitimate Children
Art. 176. Illegitimate children shall use the surname and shall be under the parental authority of their mother, and shall be entitled to support in conformity with this Code. The legitime of each illegitimate child shall consist of one-half of the legitime of a legitimate child. Except for this modification, all other provisions in the Civil Code governing successional rights shall remain in force. (287a)
To the OP, since your child will be illegitimate at time of birth, be prepared to be challenged if you encounter a Civil Registrar who is up-to-date with the current law.
'jab1976' I just came back from doing just that last week...and of course there to see my fiancee and our daughter. If you are going to be there for the birth it should be no problem, because it was 6 months after Gabrielle was born and we had no problem giving her my last name on the birth certificate. I am not saying that 'Pinay Wife' is not correct because you will not know until you get there. But just letting you know it can be done because I just did it!
Good luck with everything ,Ray

If you do chose to stay in the Philippines here are a couple of links that may help with some of your questions..... http://www.liveinthephilippines.com/content/ and.... http://www.immigration.gov.ph/ The first has a lot of information on what to expect if you chose to live there and the second is info on what you will need to live there.
I hope this helps, even if just a little. I wish you luck on what ever you choose to do.

hey ray,
We had our son in Gensan july 07 in the hospital there. The doctor botched(my opinion) the labor induction and had to due a C-section. Anyway, the total out of pocket was somewhere around php50k.They required a 10k deposit to start the C-section even though the baby and mom were in distress. It all worked out ok in the end but many things must be paid up-front. then the balance was due prior to discharge. My wife did have Fil-health,national insurance, so this reduced the total to the 50k range. If all goes well and no surgery is needed then it should be quite a bit less.I work in a hospital here in the U.S. so needless to say the whole thing was a real eye-opener about how good we have it here. Other people that i talked to have confirmed my hypothesis that if they know an American is paying for everything then C-sections seem to happen alittle quicker. I was not able to be with my wife during the induction process so i cant confirm that her/baby were really in danger thus nessesitating an emergency section and the doctor was not comfortable answering my very detailed questions as to what went wrong with the induction. She only said that there was Cephalopelvic disproportion and yes i do know what that is.all in all things worked out and mom and son did great recovering. I hope things work out great for all three of you. Good Luck!!
P.S. they still do things the old way there, medicaly speaking.
Thank you very much, I appreciate you sharing your experience about this. I think I am more nervous now than when we first found out about the baby
Thanks again, Ray

professional fees vary between OBGYN's, there is usually a standard PF as based on ethics. However if your OBGYN is a big time physician she can ask for as much as she wants. Your fiance should know by now as to how much her doctor asks for PF during normal delivery or cesarean section. You pay for this before your fiance and baby go home. You have to settle all your accounts before the hospital discharge your family.
For the medical card, not all HMO's cover for the hospital stay that is related to pregnancy. Better verify it with the HMO first.
Midwives are present in some hospital, but the OBGyn will deliver the baby. Some midwives who do private practice attends birth at theirs patient's home.
Thank you very much for your help...that was exactly what I needed to know.
Thank you again. Ray

Hello to everyone I am hoping to get some help with my confusion. As you can see we are about to have a baby I am a little confused about the medical coverage there in the Philippines...from what I understand the medical only covers the hospital stay and the Doctors fee for delivery is separate?
Is there an average delivery fee...and does it all have to be payed at once before leaving the hospital? Are there Midwives anymore or are they not used?
I am very confused about this and really need some answers
Also...about the medical coverage, I am not sure of the name...but I am sure it is basic.
Thank you for any help Ray.

okay! SOoooo Now i'm panicking a bit. I checked the uscis website and it says on Oct 15/08 they sent us a letter requesting more evidence. We sent about 15 photographs, 3 pages worth of cell phone history highlighting our calls since we've started talking, plane ticket itineraries. What else can we mail them??? We have a lot of emails stored which we have. But please, any advice.
Thanks
Don't panic...You say that they sent it so I am assuming you have not received it yet. Wait until you read the letter and see what they are asking for...it could be as simple as something you missed while filling out the petition. Or maybe they did not like the pass port size pic's. Anyway you will not know until you receive it in the mail and read it. Best of luck
