I can handle the balut and I've had lutefisk, but there is a fruit called durian that I can not stand to be near because of the odor. I'm surprised it isn't on the list. Even Andrew Zimmern said it was the worst thing he ever tasted, and he couldn't even finish eating it.

The waiting is hard, but its a necessary evil in this process. I too get discouraged when I see approvals in a month or so but then I read about those unfortunate souls who had to file at the California Service Center and I realize that my wait is not as bad or as long as it could have been.

I would not have second thoughts about moving to the Philippines to be with my lady if she was denied a visa. I was going to retire there in several years anyway, so I would just have to make the transition earlier and live off my savings until retirement kicks in.

I have heard no negative remarks from friends, coworkers or family. Perhaps its because I know and work with several Filipinos and I and my family have spent several years in Asia with the military. I have heard nothing but complete support.

I know a little about the area because my deceased wife was born and raised there. Foley is about 10 or 15 miles north of Gulf Shores, which is expensive because of the beachfront property. Property in Foley is rising too and it there appears to be some commercial development ongoing because everytime I go back there the town is bigger and there are new buildings. The weather is warm and humid in the summer and fair in the winter. The people are friendly. There is a fair amount of traffic in the summer with all the tourists and beach-goers. A plus to the area is you are near Pensacola, FL and Mobile, AL. I know Pensacola has excellent hospitals, and Mobile is pretty good too. If I were to move there I would probably live in Robertsdale or Summerdale, which are about 10 or so miles north on Hwy 59. The property prices are lower there and the towns aren't growing as fast. They are more rural too. One of the best things about Alabama is the low taxes. I see you are from Texas so you have no state income taxes, but high property taxes. Alabama has low income taxes and low property taxes. I would have no problems relocating to the area. Hope this helps in your decision.

I check daily but I have to admit to checking more than once a day on occasion, usually when I am bored and have nothing better to do.

Amen! I have listened to Art for years and never heard him trash the Philippines or Filipinos and have heard him say many good things about them over the years.. As has been said before, he has been married to two filipinas. The first wife died a few years ago and he later remarried. Don't believe a word of that letter, it was not from Art.
