Moosker got a reaction from Melissa Sinasac in Canadian Citizenship for U.S-Born Child
Hi! Just wanted to pop in and let you know that I did this for all of my kids, and it's actually fairly simple!

You'll need to apply for a Canadian citizenship certificate. Your son is allowed to gain citizenship based on you, but you still have to apply for it. You fill out the application, pay the fee online (I think about $75.00?), get the appropriate photos taken (note the size is not the same as US!), documentation copies, etc. and send all of that together back to Canada. Eventually you'll get a letter in the mail stating the received it. With a couple of our kids I got the certificate in the mail within a few months, for my last baby it's been taking forever, they were slow initially, and now the virus has really slowed it down.

My kids love telling their friends that they are American AND Canadian like Mommy :)

It is honestly not as big of a deal as I thought either! At my interview they basically just verified things that I had in my paperwork "how did you meet, where do you currently work, where does your husband work, where will you live?" It was like having a basic conversation with someone I didn't know Anyways, yes, stop torturing yourself! You have done everything legit up until this point, you should be perfectly fine.
    Best wishes!

I-864 is the petitioner stating the address change, AR-11 is the recipient stating the address change. Both must be completed.

Most people (including us) send in a copy of 1 from each year. So we sent in an electric bill with both of our names on it from 2008/2009/2010/and the most recent 2011 bill.

If you want a baby, start saving now, as others have said, it would be completely selfish to bring a baby into this world when you're scraping by trying to pay the bills already. Babies, kids, etc. have unexpected expenses, what if they get sick? Need extra help? Etc. Even if you have good health insurance, friends of ours just had a baby and it cost them all said and done a few thousand dollars (that was WITH insurance).

Moosker got a reaction from TheFantastics09 in Credit Cards, Scores etc...
Good question! If you do "credit" search in VJ you'll pull up a lot of questions & answers. From what I know, they can't pull your Canadian credit history (unless you give them the ability to and typically they do not do that). I have great credit in Canada, but had ZERO credit here. It was as if I wasn't even recognized in the U.S. My husband put me on all bank accounts, and also put me as an authorized user on his main credit card which he's had open for probably 8 years. I also got a Macy's department store card, but turns out they don't "report" you (in good standing) unless you're in bad standing.
Capital One typically will do a pre-paid credit card or a very basic $500 limit card. This is a great way to start, use it, and pay it off every month though to build your credit.
Just a tip for the future, we were trying to purchase a home, we have our own business, and I had "no credit". So we took 6 months to really beef things up. We even got a small loan at the local credit union, made 2 small payments on it and closed it up. This was a good way that both of our names were on it, it was in good standing, and added good credit to our credit history. In the end it worked!
Slowly start building up your credit now, and make smart choices! You'll love yourselves in the end that you did!

I would definitely call and ask - I believe that you have up to 3 months (please check this though) to activate your visa. A lot of people have to pack up their place, quit their job, move, etc., so it gives them a little bit more time. I don't think in those situations though they're crossing the border.
