But JUST NOW, Cesar got an email. I checked again online. And we have been approved.
Let's do a big Group Hug everyone~ This means CSC is working and we'll see more approvals coming!

I'm sure you can find employers who will accept just a social security # but many will want to see EAD from the DHS authorizing you to work legally.
Really it is not easy to do even that. The documentary requirements on employers for hiring employees are strict. Look up I-9 requirements. Failure to gather the proper documents from employees can lead to a 10,000 dollar fine and potential jail time - so employers are very unwilling to employ under a social secutiry card alone - there are too many fakes out there.

Thank you to everyone, I feel its a lot like telling my own family.
Congrats to you Heather, this was quite a day. I just got back from a long day at the office, and I was reasonably productive since I no longer have to check the USCIS website all the time
Sunnybear you are certainly in my thoughts and hopes right now, as they are to everyone that has been seperated from their loves by this process for such a long time.
Actually, Olga doesn't know yet and probably will not know for another week. That's the beautiful thing about the Ukraine - crappy cell coverage and a lack of computer access. She is with her Dad and son visiting her aunt in the country - might as well be on the moon for all it's worth. So I'm celebrating with all of you - who have been so instramental in my making it through this part of the process with a little bit of sanity left.
I'm off to get some dinner and then I'll post the new list for today. I hope all of the January remaining can experience this feeling very very soon.

On a side note...it seems really dumb to me that pending visa petitions are considered suspicious activity...shouldn't it just prove that we're doing our best to do it lawfully and just want a visit while we're waiting? Seriously...#######?
Agreed!
Started the new job today and everyone looked on me to walk on water....hate to disappoint but......
I'm very tired and a bit cranky so I appologize if I came off that way at all. Rachel, I hope you feel better, Pam, I hope the embassy gets thier heads out of thier butts, and to everyone else, a good night's sleep and a successful tomorrow. G'night.

On another topic - does anyone know what the chances are that there will be issues at the border for my fiance? Shes got 4 copies of everything with her, including the original NOA1. I know that there is an info page on this somewhere, which we are following, but I was just wondering percentage wise (there goes my math side again), what the chances are that there will be an issue ?
Actually I don't think you'll have a problem, being neighbors, Canadians tend to be treated a little less harshly as those from across either pond or down south. I would say that is it is obvious that she must return (letter from employer, apartment lease, bank account, etc.) your chances are probably close to 100%
To get back to your point, I have often thought that they should have a specific group of people trained in specific types of visas. There is usually some efficiencies to be gained by specialization. So I agree with you on that. But as I thought more about it, I figured there are numerous other checkpoints and bottlenecks that have to be gone through before the visa actually can be processed - FBI or other database checks - so even if there were specialized K-1 adjudicators that does not necesarily mean delays might not occur elsewhere in the system. If I remember correctly, and forgive me if I'm off a little, the total number of visa applications of all types came out to something like 2.6 million. That's a lot of paper to sort, organize, store, and adjudicate. The only way they could get a specialized team together is to sort all the applications by type on the receiving end. I guess to agree with you in part, 35,000 vs. 2.6 million is not "significant" enough in their eyes to re-engineer their entire process. It sucks to be a miniscule minority, but we have to deal with what we are given.
-
Ya I can see it. However something still doesn't add up - if we assume that your numbers are correct, and the VJ numbers represent 5%, and a typical 50 approval weeks nets over 1000 "full" approvals, then they should be able to process 50000 a year, and easily never getting behind, as the K1 numbers remain fairly static at around 35k a year. If they are processing a 1000 a week, thats 200 a day, 100 per center. My original estimate was about 32 per person per day. So it works out, each center has maybe 3 at most people working full time on K1s. sure it may not be the same 3 people all the time, but it means that at least 3 people need to work on the K1s every day. So these delays tell me that they can't even spare 3 people to concentrate on the K1s. If they did, they would be processed on time. As Cecile and Bryan said, they probably took these 3 people off doing K1s in order to handle the other visas. Pretty sad that they cant leave at least 3 people on our stuff at all times. I mean, 35k K1s are a drop in the bucket compared to the hundreds of thousands of N-400s they must have got. Just drives home the point that its all political. 35k petitioners are not enough to sway an election one way or another. We aren't enough of a voting block to matter. So even at a measly workload of 3 adjudicators per center, we get shafted
The fundamental error in your math is the baseline assumption that the visa center has people working on K-1 visas full time - They do not have anyone working on K-1's full time, and never have. Nor does the processing center segregate K--1 applications from other applications to make this even possible. I suggest you read the post made by an adjudicator where he discusses in some detail the process used by the adjudicators. Additionally, you should know that not all visas are of the same priority level, work visas are processed at a higher priority level than K-1 or asylum requests(I read that in a Nebraska Processing Center forum). (there were over 268,000 H1-B visas alone this last year). There are also student visas that reach peak volume timeframes and are time sensitive that must be dealt with. Some applications are complex and require substantial work, others tend to be much easier. The bottom line is that the number of visas handled and processed is well over a million (RebecaJo has better information on total applications processed- but the number is substantial and the service center is not transparent enough to provide the data to extrapolate any reasonable analysis. All types of visa applications arrive, every day, they are logged in, they are boxed. They are not sorted and boxed by visa type - they are all just boxed as they arrive.
It's frustrating, I agree, and I wish that the center had twice as many processors as they do; however, as much as I would like this to be the case, it is not. Moreover, who am I to put myself in front of someone seperated from their family, or someone having fled in fear of their lives from another country, or any other story out there. What makes us more deserving of special treatment - which is what I think your saying. I went through the same calculations myself a few months back and I found it to be more on par with a dog chasing his tail - any conclusions are illusionary. Just my opinion.

BlakeandOlha, could you add us to the list: DramaKing&Queen filing date 1/21, NOA1 1/24.
Thanks much and hope you guys are enjoying the weekend~
Your wish is my command
Here is the current list to start off the new week. I'm thinking that this is going to be a good week for January filers, and perhaps a couple of February folk. Regardless, I know it's been a long journey for all of us, but at the end of the day, I hope we'll each realize that this is a small price to pay for what is really valuable in our lives - Love. Good Luck All

Hey guys, we got the visa!
Big time Congratulations to you two!! It's been an incredible journey for you both, I am very pleased to see this
-
Congratulations to Gabbie & Erv, January 22 Filers who were approved yesterday
-
God I can only hope and pray that we are all approved within next 2 weeks....
I am tired don't get me wrong and I was in bed by midnight maybe 1 am last night. You are so right Blake about not recovering as quickly haha...
I am in a very snappish mood today oooffff....hate when I get like this. Gave my daughter a huge hug as she leaves in the morning to spend the week with her Dad while he is here. I am just lobbing about watching movies on tv even though I should be out enjoying the gorgeous day. Just don't have the energy...maybe after a nap.
I desperatley need to do some laundry but forgot to get quarters! So may have to go somewhere later to round some of them up too!
Anything good on? I'm pretty useless today myself, I'll probably toddle off to the garden and see if I can do any damage there.
I'm not much of a drinker as well, but without our SO to keep us in line, how else are we supposed to spend our time, hehe
Also in a crappy mood. Starting to see people who filed after us get their NOA2s is not helping. I can't fathom how the hell they can say they do things in order when its obvious they don't really. I get this feeling that every morning they just dole out a dusty box to each adjudicators desk, whether they are in or not, on vacation or not. So some end up being processed before others. You know, I bet it not all that hard to just have them set up in real order. They owe us that much dont you think, to do what they say they do, especially for us paying US citizen customers.
I think the feeling of helplessness, coupled with not knowing anything at all, doesn't help either.
Cheer up, the fact that they approved a 1/31 is good news not bad news, it means that they are working on applications from our time frame - which has only really started this last week. Rather than hopeless, be hopefull that this week is your week. I know sometimes it seems darkest before it goes totally black, but I think the dawn is right around the corner. As for the big lie about processing in order, well if you've been reading the posts around that shouldn't be an expectation of anyone's. The only thing I think they do in order is receive mail, other than that, who knows.
Anyway, all us January filers are coming to the end of our wait in this first step of the visa journey - Thank God for that! Good Luck and I hope you don't have long to wait.
-
Hey.. I'm 20 yrs old.. I'm a US citizen married to a non-citizen.. we met when we were 16 and went out for 2 yrs before we got married when in August 06.. I come from a really strict family so they didn't agree to us getting married because we're different religions but I did it anyway (they all stopped talking to me).. He got his Conditional Green Card in May 07 & the interview was SO SIMPLE! They didn't ask questions, we had pictures from our court marriage (we were going to wait till we finish college or at least till we save up enough money to have a really great extravagant wedding & maybe till then my parents would forgive me for taking such a big step without their support n be there for the religious ceremony), we had other pictures from all our birthdays we've spent together, trips we took together, graduations, etc etc... anyway.. after that we started having a lot of issues. We're young, we rushed.. we made a lot of bad decisions & we both agree.. I actually filed for a divorce but then took it back because I hadn't thought it through and thought I could make it work, & the lawyer turned out to be REALLY shady (another story all in itself).. but here we are again still having problems & regrets.. What my question is that.. well we're both wanting to file for divorce.. but I don't in any way want him to get screwed over with immigration if he's divorced when he goes for his permanent green card next May.. On the other hand now my family whom I have missed so much is telling me if I leave him they will take me back.. & I know it sounds so strange in this day & age for any family to be this way but they're very old fashioned n I can understand why they stopped talking to me.. so I really want to get this divorce done with and me & him are going to try to be friends.. but since we are young.. we don't have much together, the place we live is actually his mom's.. we have a couple bank accounts together but we never bought a car or anything coz again.. we're just college students working our butts off to pay for college.. & I know if we get divorced we need to prove it was a bona fide marriage.. I DON'T KNOW HOW I CAN PROVE IT! We went into this head over heels in love, just out of high school.. thinking love was all we needed and now we both realize we are definitely too young to be married & it's causing strain on the friendship we have always had before our relationship.. u know? Hopefully you guys can help me figure out how to go about this whole situation before we go to a lawyer and start the process because it's really expensive and we are basically working really hard to just get by.. Thanks guys & I'll appreciate all the help I can get.
I'm sorry for your perdicament. First of all since you do not have any kids or any real property of significance you generally do not need a lawyer to conclude such a simple divorce proceeding. There are actually legal aid groups that can help you fill out the paperwork and file it correctly. You don't need a lawyer for this.
How this divorce affects his ability to have conditions removed is a layer of complication that really isn't your responsibility after the divorce is finalized.
Take care of business and best of luck to both of you.

Good morning all, I was a good boy last night and got to bed relatively early. Today is one of housekeeping and working on the house and yard. Sunnybear you rock, I just wish I had the powers of recovery I once had. We're at 50% (roughly). Hopefully the mail service will bring some approvals today, but regardless, know we are on the downward slope and over the next 7 to 14 days all of the January filers should be approved.
Congratulations to Lea and Ron, January 25 filers who received their approval last night

We are the top quarter of the 100's.
C'mon CSC throw us some NOA2's!!
It's gotta start happening soon, and in a big way. I wouldn't be suprised at all with a number of approvals next week. The general thought is that once your under 100 your fair game, once your under 70 then your ripe for the picking. I hope we all get ripe very quickly.
Was all of that imagery intended....or do I just have a really, really dirty mind?
Look at how long since I've seen Olha, use your imagination

Well it's the last day at work for the old job - which means it's off to the beer hall for me. I'm pulling a sunnybear tonight so I probably won't be checking in again until late tomorrow.
Good luck everyone when the CSC closes in the next two hours, I hope we'll see a bunch of approvals coming down the pipe.
My story tonight:

Night all!

good going cali USICS! guys i hav a mixup situation in hand. we had asked for our visa papers to be sent to Indian embassy by the NVC, however they sent it to Singapore seeing my last resident address. Though I am willing to take uo my interview there, I am not sure whether is its an advantage or disadvantage. I am also not sure of what documents will I need. Actually I am in India right now for a vacation and managed to collect police cleaance from passport office, medical examination (sealed though I do not know if they approve in Singapore), TD and MMR vaccinations (vericilla I had chickenpox before). I intend to colect the actual police certificate from the Singapore Indian embassy.
Any of you hav any suggestions? comments?
btw my fiance is not sure of how to arrange the wedding in the US. shes in CA and wants to know what should be done to get marriage certificate and begin the AOS process. I dearly need a EAD on entry, is JFK trustworthy? cos if i land there, I will have to travel over to the otherside of the continent again.
Cheers!
Here's what I understand.....
First of all look at the guides, as you've been advised, however, here are some practical answers....
Have your fiancee look up the California state website - she will find a whole section on where to go to get a license to get married and what the requirements are. Since she will assume your name (I'm guessing) the first thing you should do upon arrival is go to the local social security administration office with your passport (and visa) and apply for a social security card. It takes a couple weeks to receive your card (this is California remember). Your fiancee should check the marriage license requirements for the state - some states require a social security number to get the marriage license, some do not. Once you get the license you can wed (usually they make you wait a day after getting the license). You can be wed at the county courthouse if you do not want a religious wedding - regardless, your now wife should complete a name change form after the service to assume your last name legally (this is certainly provided at the courthouse, and should be provided by whomever is legally able to marry you). Congrats, now your man and wife. Once you are wed, you've met the conditions of the K-1 visa and have to have your status adjusted and get your temporary green card. It is this green card which allows you to legally work in the US.
Here's to answer your related question about the POE and the stamp.....
JKF is the only point of entry that I've heard will give you a temporary work authorization stamp, and then it is not guaranteed. Now this is the important thing to remember about this stamp---it is connected with your entry into the US under the K-1 visa and WILL EXPIRE AFTER 90 DAYS OF ENTRY. If you go and get a job immediately upon entering the US you will not be able to be legally working for the time between the expiration of the initial 90 days and your receipt of the temporary green card.
It is for this reason that many employers are hesitant to even hire someone with a temporary work authorization attached to a K-1, because in all liklihood that person will go from legal to illegal and will not longer be able to work there only three months after starting. I know you are an IT professional which probably means that your chances are slimmer of being hired under this temporary authorization.
If working is critical then I suggest you get hitched immediately upon arrival
and apply for AOS and your EAD right away (it'll cost you $1,000 to do this). Then try and find temporary job assignments until the temporary authorization runs out or your EAD (Temporary Green Card) arrives. Temping is a real good option for you because it is a good way to begin to make contacts within companies - and there are a number of firms that specialize in temping IT professionals. Best of luck to you and your bride to be!!!

This morning in germany, Cassi go to sleep and before i go to work, i look only for fun on the USCIS-Page and see that we were approved.
I was so surprised, that i called Cassi at once to say the good news. We can't stop our call, so i come too late at work, lol
We are the last january fillers (75 on igors list), so the approval comes 2 month earlier that i tought.
I hope all fillers will be such wonderfull surprised from USCIS at the next time :-)
I am so happy for you both!! Big Time Congratulations!!!!!
Sehr Gut!
For the rest of us January filers, your approval gives us confidence that we are all available for approval as well.

I wonder about putting it on a photosharing website like photobucket and then just including the image from there...I'll try that next time I update the list.
Well, you've surpassed my technological expertise, good luck and if it works let me know how to do it.....

You may also want to add Josie & Nate...... they filed on Sept. 14, 2007 but have a NOA1 date of 2/28, and were approved on 5/15.... and E&M that were november 2007 filers but have a 2/4/08 NOA1 date - see what I mean about using NOA1 dates?
January Filers at the CSC - How are you doing?
