It might be easier to set up a US bank account and give her an ATM card for that, rather than deal with wiring money into a Russian account. For now, at least, there are no issues with withdrawing money from US cards using Russian ATMs.

There are Americans who own business and property in Russia. The climate is going to become tougher and tougher, IMO, but not exactly because of this law in particular.

I agree with neonred--just think logically about this. The articles I have read state that yes, they want to be able to keep track of people better, especially people with citizenship from countries like the US--but if your wife is a regular person with no real business interests or governmental ties in Russia, then she has nothing to worry about, I think. She always has the option of renouncing her citizen if it seems necessary, but for now I think it would be not that big of a deal to just follow the law and write a registered letter to whomever saying she has been an American citizenship since x date. They are not going to care about someone who is living a normal life with her husband in the US and not doing anything that would be detrimental to Russian interests. That is what I think is the impetus behind this law and things I have read have said as much.

I do not believe that it will affect visas in Russia, especially family/friends related. Of course I don't know what will happen in Ukraine, their new authorities can do good or bad steps, nobody knows yet what kind of future Ukraine got with them, all promises are just words and worth nothing, only time will show their actual deals.
I'm not trying to present Russian government like good guys, but assumptions about suspending all US flights and mass arrests of US citizens trapped in Russia are making me laugh. Don't demonize Russia too much, Russian government can do wrong things, but they're not total idiots to make such a dirty international scandal, especially with country they have to consider as a serious player on international arena. Such methods can be used only to contries Russia doesn't give a flying F about, like it was several years ago with Georgia. It's not the first time people starting to panic about tension between US and Russia, but as any other time, I do not think it will cause any serious issues with visas like K-1, CR-1... And it definitely shouldn't cause any serious troubles for people who are already in other country visiting it legally. Tension between Russia and US was, is and will be, because Russia and US going different ways and competing in some arenas, but for now I don't see any reasons right now for such a thing like Second Cold War or New Iron Curtain. It's just my thoughts.

Mail to Russia interrupted? What? Mail to Russia has always stunk. I agree with Victor. Nothing happened during the Georgia war. This has the potential to be worse, certainly, but I wouldn't panic prematurely.

Two issues here with this , and the closed thread.
One, Russia allows dual citizenship and Ukraine currently does not or at least it seems that way.
Two, some mods like to flex their muscle and shut down threads to make themselves feel important.
I certainly did not see any TOS violation. It is a question that comes up often and needs to be discussed and understood.

Bebe and Express would be better--gap and banana republic are blah. Anthropologie is overpriced and too boho. Forever 21 has some good stuff in it even if you are way over 21.

Ship it. But also buying a dress in Russia is dumb, because it will be a million times cheaper in the US. Tell her to watch Say Yes to the Dress on vk.

LOLWhut. Where are you taking your wife shopping in the US if all you find is polyester? For what you pay for midrange brands in Russia, you can get ready-to-wear in the US.
I got a new winter coat in Russia a couple of weeks ago and the exact same one is 70$ cheaper in the US.

They either think that the American man wants to bring over a slave, or that the RUB woman is looking for an easy target so she can move to the US and then dump him, green card in hand.

Yes, but only if they are registered as permanent residents of another country at a local embassy. most people keep their Russian registration.
Neonred, you didn't even have to call anybody... ALL information you might have needed can be found on the website of the embassy. ALL OF IT. They also tell you what to do if both of your passports expired or you don't have your internal passport with you. How do I know? I looked it up a couple of weeks ago, because my travel passport expires in December. Luckily, my internal passport expires in 22 years, so I have nothing to worry about.
It's just like with the immigration process: read the guides.

Sorry, but I don't see how this is the EMBASSY'S fault... Laws are laws, and it's your wife's job to stay on top of things like when her zagran expires.
Although I am confused about why they would need her internal passport, since as I recall, Russian citizens permanently living abroad are supposed to relinquish theirs, even if basically no one actually does this.

You don't have to go all pointy-shoes, just upgrade your usual. Get well-fitting dark denim jeans, sneakers that aren't for the gym, and, well, baseball caps can't REALLY be salvaged for men over 30, unless you're a movie star and get a designer one and pair it with some aviators, I guess. Trade in your old ratty tshirt for something slimmer fitted, maybe from j crew, and a vneck cashmere sweater. A little more GQ, less Golf Digest.
