  1. Hola susita, bienvenido a Visa Journey!

There are some super great people here, and you'll learn a lot. Feel free to PM me if you ever need anything. We have just completed the Visa process and my love will be arriving here in NM on Friday. Now we will start planning the AOS.....

    Best of luck and besos,

    Sam

Hey everyone, I'm new here, haven't even filed for the Visa yet, but looking to make some friends who have or are in a similar situation as I am. I'm looking to start the process within the next 2-3 weeks :star:

I'd love to chat and see how you met your fiancee, how the Visa process went for you, or is going. I would really like to meet people who are dealing with the Lima, Peru consulate. My fiancee is Peruvian and I would love some insight, ideas, jokes, etc. I'm bilingual, y si quieren hablarme en español, pues, está superbien, perfecto

  2. I'm fully fluent in Spanish and English... is it a conflict of interest to do the translations myself and write a letter and have it notarized??? It's such a waste of money for me to pay someone to translate when I know how!! :star:

And do the police records / birth certificate have to be translated into English???

You do not need to have the police records / birth certificate translated into English for the Embassy phase of the process at all. All of these materials can be in either English/Spanish.

The only thing that I have translated up until this point is our evidence materials (emails) for the initial submission to the Service Center for the K-1 (to go along with the I-129F). I also wrote in English next to all receipts for the evidence the basics of: item, date, etc.

That was it for translations!! I also wrote the "I can translate this" letter that Kid Brooklyn mentioned to go along with the I-129F packet, initial submission to the Service Center. Yes, I had this letter notarized.

I'm at the Embassy phase of this journey as of now. Maybe later for the American phase (AOS) of it you'll need translations?? I personally am worrying about this part of it later. I've got enough to do!

This is a good point. Depending on what step you are at you may or may not need translations. For filing with USICS, you do. For a K-1 Interview in Peru, you do not. For AOS, you do.... Just depends. Translations can be done by you as long as you certify to the acuracy and it is not specifically stated that a certified translator is needed.

    Best of luck!

    Sam

  3. Hello! I have a few questions, now that I'm too busy leaving everything ready for the interview. I see I could download the forms from http://www.state.gov/m/a/dir/forms/, and when I did it, I realize I could NOT save any document or data typed into the pdf documents! I wanted to do this, to obviously secure some copies, and also send them to my fiance so he'll check them in case I had made any mistake, but now it seems they can just be filled in online and then printed but not saved.

Was this like that for all of you as well? How did your fiances or fiancees manage to do this?

What if someone wants to edit the documents again? Why are they doing this? I really don't get it, and never heard of anyone on VJ mentioning this, but it's just not practical, in my opinion.

Also, I'd like to ask if anyone knows if the copies ones ought to present to the embassy, such as the birth certificate copy, are supposed to be legalized or something.

In addition, Jared, my fiance, has one question. He says he has multiples checking accounts and uses one of them as his saving account, but the affidavit of support form asks for the amount of money there is on the saving account... is this a problem? should he get a saving account or what?

Oh well, good luck to you all! Thanks for being there :energy:

P.D. What about the OF - forms? I don't find them online, should I take just what's in the package *when it comes to OF or Optional Form):help:

We experienced he same with the online documents it is how the governemnt had designed them. I filled out the forms for Elias he verified them by a faxed copy and then I sent the originals to him for signature along with all of the other papers he needed for the interview.

As far as the checking account he is fine. He should have theletter (or letters if more than one bank) include the information from each account (date opened, amount available, and amount of total deposits for one year).

If OF-179 is what you are looking for online it is not available, just used the one in the packet. It will be fine,

    Best of luck!!!

    Sam

  4. Peru has been known to ask for 3 years of taxes....My last year looked better that my current year because I am working with a non profit and my income is actually a stipind. At our interview all of our financial info was returned (including a co-sponsor and all of that info) and they requested that we send back ONLY the affidavit of support, my last year return and my W-2. No bank letter, no employer letter nothing else... (don't get me wrong, I am not saying they are unnecessary, they are very important)

However, all that said, I think you will be just fine at your current amount.

If you wanted to prepare a co sponsor you could have everything ready then only submit if it is needed.

  5. Hi..It is 3:00 am and tomorrow is my Biometrics appointment. I can't seem to find the appointment notice anywhere!!!!!

    What do I do?????

I know they require that in order to take the fingerprints.. should I still go to the office and try to explain or call them???

Please Help! I'm going crazy trying to find it!

If the office is near, go and explain, they won't let you have them done though.

I would call the USCIS line and talk to them there.

How in gods name can you say for sure that "They wont let you have them done though"...... do you have pesonal expirence of this situation or are you just guessing???

Yes I do have personal experience.

Why not find an adult education class that can help you with your writing skills rather than following me around all day?

    :)

  6. Hello!!!!!!

I figure I will up date my interested felllow VJ members!!

Today Santiago finally got all the papwerwork needed in mexico for his brother to get this " No penal records certificate " that the embassy requested!

We had a lil set back due to holy weekend in Peru, so he finally legalized everything thru the embassy of mexico, and has sent everything today.

By next week his Bro will get the documents and it will take him a day to get the certificate we are waiting for!!!

then he will send it back to Peru thru DHL by the end of next week assuming.. So we will prob be sending it to the embassy by the 7 th of april. Hopefully by then this waiting torture wil be Over, we have nothing else to do than to just be patient and have faith everything will turn out OK!

Thank you all for your prayers and keeping us in your thoughts!!!

Good luck to my peruanos who are having interviews in APril,

Thanks for the update!!! I am praying for a fast end to your wait.

  7. Greetings! I just wanted to send an update and let you all know that Elias called DHL to see if they had received anything back from the embassy. DHL advised him that a package had arrived today. He went to pick it up and inside was the APPROVED VISA and the sealed packet he will carry to his POE.

We will be buying the ticket today (probably for April 3 or 4) and finally we will be past this part of our journey.

A million thanks to all who have encouraged us along the way. And many prayers for those still waiting. We'll still be here..... BRING ON AOS......well ok wait on AOS....bring on the MARRIAGE!!!!

    Besos!!!

  8. question, which one i need to get? there are many but my concerns are between these two:
    • Certificado de Antecedentes Policiales para uso Nacional
    • Certificado de Antecedentes policiales para viaje al extranjero
one is about S/.30 and the second is more than S/.2000.00!!!!!!

    thanks

    Katiushka

It is the Certificado de Antecedentes policiales para viaje el extranjero..... and it should be 29 soles.

  9. I suggest you call to embassy and explain and redue your appoitment.

What happens at the interview if you do not have the "CERTIFICADO DE ANTECEDENTES JUDICIALES A NIVEL NACIONAL", because you are still waiting to receive it? Will the visa be delayed until we can show this?

If all other criteria is met and they have the intent to grant the VISA they will give you a yellow slip marking what you need to return (in this case the certificado). You will DHL the certificado and the passport back to the embassy (they will not take it in person) and aslong a everthing is clear with the certificate they will return the passport and VISA via DHL.

This happened to us. We requested it about a week and a half before the interview and were told it would be available on March 18th at 9 am, unfortunatly the interview was the 18th at 8 am. We mailed it back DHL the same day....

Sometimes they come in 5 days, other times 10 or 15. Just request it as soon as you can. And if you don't get it in time don't stress too much, there are procedures in place.

The question is still informational at this point I believe. It looks like the K-1 was recently filed. There should be plenty of time to obtain the needed certificates after NOA2, NVC, packet 3/4...

  10. YES, you do need tax returns for your interview in Lima..... You should bring at least 3 years if you can.

Try going to Dr Nora Lari...... my wife used her and liked her very much.

    Best of luck

    Thanks for your advice!

Just one single thing I don't get =( On http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-134.pdf for the affidavit of support, it says:

    I-134, Affidavit of Support

    Instructions

An alien applying for SSI must make available to the Social Security Administration documentation concerning his / her

income and resources and those of the sponsor, including

information that was provided in support of the corresponding

    application.(...)

Evidence should consist of copies of any or all of the

following documentation listed below that are applicable to

    your situation.

The sponsor must submit in duplicate evidence of income

    and resources, as appropriate:

    A. Statement from an officer of the bank or other financial

institutions where you have deposits, identifying the

    following details regarding your account:

    1.Date account opened;

    2. Total amount deposited for the past year;

    3. Present balance.

    B. Statement of your employer on business stationery,

    revealing:

    1. Date and nature of employment;

    2. Salary paid;

    3. Whether the position is temporary or permanent.

    C. If self-employed:

    1. Copy of last income tax return filed; or

    2. Report of commercial rating concern.

    D. List containing serial numbers and denominations of

bonds and name of record owner(s).

So, they claim you ought to present the tax return filed just if the petitioner is self-employed!

    It confuses me. :help:

You are correct that the affidavit states that, it is an older and general form. Other countries may not care, however the embassy makes it a specific requirement in Peru. I 100% believe that the embasy will hold up issuing the visa without the tax info included.

  11. Is medical exam appointment date given by embassy or is it scheduled by us?

If the medical exam appointment date is given by the embassy, can we change it?

Can we choose which of the 3 medical offices we want to use?

What medical office do people here recommend based on experience?

It appears from other post that I have read about vaccines, that even if the person has no records of past vaccines that everything can be taken care of during the medical exam, is this

the same experience other people have had?

What vaccines of the 12 listed are being required at the medical exam:

    1. Paperas

    2. Sarampiòn

    3. Rubeola

    4. Polio

    5. Tétano y Difteria

    6. Toxoides Tétánico y Difteria

    7. Tos Convulsiva

    8. Influenza tipo B (HIB)

    9. Hepatitis B

    10. Varicela

    11. Numocòcica

    12. Influenza

You can choose any of the 3 doctors from the list, you will need your letter from Packet 3/4 to schedule it but you can schedule it whenever is most convenient (schedule as soon as you can after receiving the packet.

All of the vaccinations are required to be met, though only the Doctor will be able to tell you which are needed based on individual medical needs.

The vaccines can be taken care of by the Dr. even if no records are available (this will be an additional charge and the cost will depend on what is needed). In our case the vaccinations were done over two days because the Dr. did not want to give too many on one day......

If it helps we used, Dr. Situ he was great. Though in all honesty I have never heard a complaint on any of the 3 in Lima.

  12. Thank you, thank you!

I also just looked on the Embassy info up at the top of the page and found my answers. It looks like in Peru all he's going to receive is that one packet.

    Thank god!

This packet is all he will get. Packet 3 is all of the forms and stuff, packet 4 refers to the letter with the appointment (interview date).

I am so glad you guys have it now! Make sure you read over everything, we were missing forms in ours. If you feel like anything is missing (check for form 157, I think it is the most commonly missed form in Peru) feel free to PM me.

14. My lawyer didn't say that I needed an employment letter, only 3 years

of W2s and tax returns. I work for the Dept of Commerce/NOAA/

National Weather Service as a meteorologist. My fiancee's

interview is March 26. I recently came to this site and started

reading reviews and noticed that many people took employment

letters to their interview. I dont know if I have time at this

point to get one since it probably has to go through the regional

office. Perhaps my local office can do one for me on Monday, but

I would need to fax it since I dont have time to mail now. Im rather

irritated since I thought I had all my ducks in a row. Any ideas

about this? Is this something I should worry about?

I of course recommend including one because the form lists it. However, on a strange note, in Lima there is no place on the checklist of Financial Documents the embassy provided to us at the Interview for an employer letter.

For Elias' Interview on 3/18/08 I Included:

    I-134 signed and notarized.

SIMPLE Tax transcripts from the IRS for past 3 years

Letter from my employer (not exactly a traditional employer, my income is technically a stipind and non-taxable)

    Photo copies of paystubs

Letter from my bank stating the date I opened the account, current balance, total amount of deposits for the past year

12 months of bank statements (because the bank attached them to the letter)

Everything was returned to my fiance and he was issued a yellow slip (with the checklist of financial documents) stating that the embassy needed the I-134, my 2007 tax return and my 2007 W-2 to be mailed back DHL before they would issue the VISA. He asked if what was provided was insufficent and was told to just provide exactly what was asked for. We of course sent back the I-134, the SIMPLE Tax transcript, a copy of my 1040-A and a copy of my W-2 the same day and are currently awaiting the respnse (and the end of a looong holiday weekend).

I am still unclear of there was a communication problem at the interview (I did not attend) or if something was overlooked but it was a pain. I wish you the very best!

    Sam

  15. Hi you all :) I was wondering what the exact cost of the whole medical examination is. Read it was $95 plus 250 soles for vaccinations, but then I read 2 other members said to be ready to pay more than 700 soles extra!

(I'm making a budget) has this been like that for most people who already went through the medical examination prior to the interview? I'd appreciate it if someone threw some light over this topic.

ALSO, another question; I read the tax return one has to present at the interview should be presented if the sponsor is self-employed. My fiancé is not self-employed, so we assume we don't need to deal with that. Has anyone heard of people at the embassy still asking for it during the interview date? We do expect this won't happen, but one never knows, so I'm just making sure by asking.

Hugs to you all, thanks for being a support! :P

As for the medical it is $95.00. If you need vaccinations the Doctor will be the only person who can tell you which ones you need. I recently heard that the different Doctors in Lima will charge different prices for the vaccinations so I would recommend calling them once you have your packet and making your appointment with the one you think is the best! Sorry I don't have more info.

As for the tax return, Make sure that at the very least you HAVE A COPY OF his 2007 Taxes at the Interview. Everyone I know (from Lima) here on VJ has provided copies at the Interview and even though we had a copy of my 2007 tax transcripts at Elias' Interview they embassy asked for my 2007 tax return, and my W-2. We received a yellow slip to send back the additional tax papers and the VISA is on hold until they receive it.

Jared can get a tax transcripts (free of charge, takes 10-15 days) from the IRS by calling 1-800-829-1040.

There are a few people who have interviewed in Lima that have been asked for 3 years of returns.

    Best of Luck.

  16. HELLO all !!!

Here is a little Update for the ones that follow our case!

Santiago is gathering documents to send to his brohter in Mexico ,so that he can get the antecedentes needed for us to finally get the visa in hand!!!

He had to get fingerprints, birth certificate, Certificado domiciliario, ID copy, passport copy and pictures all of this had to be legalized by the ministerio del exterior and then leaglized by hte mexico embassy and then has to be send thru DHL to his brother for him to do it, it takes a day and then he will send it to us for us to send it to the embassy with his passport to finally get his visa!!!!!!!!

One more bump, its a long holiday weekend in lima and everything is closed so he will have to wait til monday to legalize what he needs to!

But its OK we just need patience and we are in not much rush to get it, they didnt give us a timeline so as long as we get the visa by april 15 we are good to go !!!!!!

Good luck in your journey and thanks for all of ur kind thoughts!!!

    :luv:

I hear ya....we're loving this looong weekend too. Thanks for the update. As for our bump...everything requested at Elias' Tuesday morning Interview was sent va DHL to the embassy on Tuesday afternoon. Hopefully after this long weekend we will have our response (jeje and the VISA). I guess it gives us a few more days to pray!

  19. We are finally approved! I woke up, checked email and uscis online stat and there it is, APPROVAL NOTICE! Praise be to GOD who answers prayers in His own perfect time.:dance::dance:

I know we have not waited as long as others have and though I am very happy with our approval, my heart still cries out for those who have been waiting far longer and also for my all the friends I have met here in visa journey who filed with CSC.... I hope and pray that you will all receive your approvals soon. We will all get our approval, sometimes earlier than others, sometimes later than others BUT we will all recieve it in due time.

Thank you for everyone here who have been a great source of knowledge and inspiration. God bless you all. (F)(F)(F)

CONGRATS!!! I am very happy for you guys! God bless!

  20. That NOA2 and RFE on the same day is the strangest thing I have heard. Did you call them to find out more? Really strange. I have no experience with the RFE but most people say it is only a slight delay...but the delay is for the NOA2 so I really have no idea...

As for being in Peru, the only issue I could see would be not being able to meet the income requirements for the affidavit of support. Now if you are retired or something like that that would not be an issue.

I do know of a gentleman from VJ that went to stay in Peru for a long part of the wait for his fiance's visa. He was retired so the income part was no problem...

As long as you are ok on the income side, and you intend to make your home in the US after Visa approval, I think all will be well.

    Best of luck!
