  1. Every situation mentioned here that involves embassy and passport is for renewal of the passport previously issued.  Double check for the first time issuance. Also, considering the times we are living in, with  embassy personnel being understaffed, workload backed up through the roof, do you really believe they will be very accommodating in your situation where you just cannot wait with resources readily available here  including expedites and expecting a concierge level of service once at their turf? I would ask myself that question.

  2. My husband and I were originally planning nuptials here. He was truthful on the interview and he got his visitors visa, March 10th 2020. We didn’t want him to risk overstaying once everything hit down, so he never used it. I eventually went over and  we got married, and filed I-130 as was originally planned. No problems whatsoever, just simple truth. The best of luck.

Credit card.  I have my card set up to notify me of EVERY transaction, so I see them come in live.  Anything over a certain amount, the CC company texts and requests approval.  Never had any issues and we're a number of petitions successfully through the system now.

Banking with cheques is very antiquated in my mind.  US banking in general seems behind the times.  I was uncomfortable when I first moved to the US 10 years ago and they'd still walk off with your CC to pay a restaurant bill.  We'd had tableside machines in Canada for years already and your card never leaves your hand there.  We'd also had chips in cards for years prior.  The fact that it took so long for the US to accept chip n pin was mind blowing to me.  I was shaking my head when people in our neighbourhood were complaining about 6 or so years ago that the debit machines at the local Kroger had been changed and the "credit" option when using a debit card had been removed, so they were required to use a pin.

Interestingly enough, we used to have to request our corporate cards to have a pin (and later, a chip) so that we could use them internationally because so many other places required it, but not the US.  We had to have a "business justification" for the need.

Fraud is high in the US, so a CC offers the most inexpensive additional insurance a person can have because it's the CC company that has to be insured.  If your debit card gets hacked, there's no getting that money back.  Some banks are definitely better than others for monitoring and communicating when there is suspected fraud.

You would be surprised how many people in some of the poshest areas in New York use cheques in retail. It’s almost a status symbol😁

  4. Everyone’s circumstances are different and I dare say unique, so there is no fool proof way to go about it. Recommendations what is better, etc, yes, but again everyone’s story is their own, and as long as you are ready to lay it out, explain it ( if necessary) you’ll be just fine. You met the minimum requirement for one meeting in two years. I wish you the best of luck and to succeed.

$1,225 is indeed the correct fee for I-485 from K-1. It wouldn't surprise me if the two separate money orders tripped you up here - someone at the lockbox intake saw one of them and spent all of 5 seconds concluding that the wrong fee was submitted without even looking for the other one. Did you list "U.S. Department of Homeland Security" as the payee?

The form fee is 1,140 and biometrics are 85,  the sum is 1225, you can sent 1000 on one MO and 225 on the other, like they did, as long as the sum is correct. What the USCIS will not accept are different methods of payment combined, like for example them sending the check and money order, which they didn’t.

My question is outside of the arrest warrant, would you still be seeking a divorce and for what reason? Is your goal to have them sent back home or just have them exit your life whether they remain in the US or not? Sometimes people are looking for that magic bullet that they think can absolve them of their obligations. Feels like the relationship isn't what you had hoped it would be and you are hoping to wash your hands of the whole matter and would like to be released from the responsibilities you signed up for.

    Ugh. On point. Thank you.

  7. I am from NY our service center was Nebraska. My friend’s ( also from NY) service center was Texas. It’s internal and cannot be predicted. My cousin filed for his fiance K1 NOA1 was January 1st, 2022, she arrived On October 27th 2023. Our CR1 NOA1 was May 24th 2022, my husband arrived on Dec 8th 2023. The difference? He got his ssn the following week and 10 year green card 2 weeks ago. They just filed week ago, from the beginning. They regret big time not going cr1 route. And the fees keep going up. Look at the timelines, facts, this whole site is based on someone’s experience and potential pitfalls and hurdles that can be avoided.

Yeah it just is unfortunate that I have no control over what happens because since I don’t know when this is going to get accepted I most likely will not be able to travel because of not knowing months in advance and requesting time off. :( but eventually it will get approved so I’m trying to just think of that.

Totaly understandable, we have all been there. Hopefully yours takes even faster then the estimate.

  9. It is an estimate based on timelines of other members. Dynamic of timelines is based on processing times that have changed quite a lot, during our process for example. Your work place can serve as a perfect example how little do we really can control.  We have all been there believe me, but it will pass. Patience, greatfulness and supplication, and a lot of deep breaths. We are here for everything else.
